He served as president in two terms, being first elected in 2008 and then in 2012. Obama was born on August 4th, 1961, in Hawaii. His mother is American and his father was from Kenya, but he lived with his grandparents for most of his childhood and teen life. At high school, there were only two other African-American students, and he soon became aware of racism. He studied political science at Columbia University, in New York, and then graduated from Harvard Law School in 1991, with the help of scholarships. After graduating as a lawyer, he moved to Chicago to work with civil rights and teach at the University of Chicago Law School. Working as a lawyer, he met his wife, Michelle. They married in 1992 and had two daughters, Malia (born in 1998) and Sasha (born in 2001). Obama first entered politics in 1996, when he was elected for the State Senate in Illinois.
