This is the Volhynian Mennonite village of Antonovka as recorded by the 7th Revision (census) of the Russian Empire which was conducted in 1816. It was reproduced by the Genealogical Society of Utah in 1999 from the original manuscript which is located at the State Archives of the Ternopil Oblast in Ternopil, Ukraine. Entitled Revision lists: Ostrog (district), 1814 1834 in the LDS catalogs, the images listing the Village of Antonovka can be found within the first third of reel number 2375709. While I was able to single out Antonovka I was unable to identify the records for the Mennonite village of Karolswalde. I feel this 4 reel collection likely does not contain records for all the villages of Ostrog Uězd for this Revision. In addition to Karolswalde I was also unable to identify nearby Volhynian villages such as Kuniv and Kam yanka. This census is recorded in three different sections. The villagers listed in the first section compare favorably to immigrants coming from Jeziorka, West Prussia, to Volhynia (Volyn Gubernia), in 1803 04 (http://www.mennonitegenealogy.com/russia/jez.htm). The latter two sections appear to list settlers who arrived in Antonovka from Poland (Masovia) in 1811 1813. Finally, it may be useful to compare all three sections together to the 1819 census of Mennonites located in Ostrog translated by Sergei Chaiderman (http://www.mennonitegenealogy.com/russia/census_of_mennonites_located_in_ostrog_1819.pdf). I will make several references to this 1819 census in the endnotes. GRANDMA numbers for family heads who can be identified with a high degree of certainty have been added to a column on the left. Specific thanks to Glenn Penner for locating the LDS reels and to Steve Fast for assisting with translation. Translation note: Words in [brackets] are additional comments or words by translator. Underlining are letters or words which could not be read. Familiar Low German Mennonite names have been standardized from the Russian unless the name was unclear in any way. NOTES: (1) This appears to be the mark of a man named Martin Abraham Voth. A Martin Abraham Voth is listed at Family #3 Karolswalde (Slobadka) on the 1819 Ostrog census. (2) This surname is listed as Praks in the 1819 Ostrog census but here certainly starts with the letter B (which might be inter changeable with the letter P). (3) This surname is listed as Knob or Knop on the 1819 Ostrog census. (4) In both this census as well as the 1819 Ostrog census, this name appears to me to be Lota. (5) This surname is listed as Schwartz in the 1819 Ostrog census. The listing here might also be Schwartz but in neither census is it entirely clear. Possibly the name could start with the letter T. (6) This line is not very legible but it appears to again be the mark of Martin Abraham Voth along with that of Cornelius David Unruh. A Cornelius David Unruh is listed at Family #8 in Karolswalde in the 1819 census as well as above at Family #9. (7) This cover page does indeed identify the final 2 families as Lutherans. However, in the body of the census they are listed as Menonists (Mennonites).
