UNIT 6 SELLING POWER Bey U06_061_mov.flv I get so stressed out when I go to the shops, you know, like I don t know what to pick and then I go with my mum and she tries to try out stuff for me and pick it out and I don t like it so I get really angry at her and then just it never ends up well when I go shopping so I absolutely hate it. It s not that bad, I mean it s just, it s just stressful. I just do it when I have to, you know. Just when I have to. Yeah, I m like that, like if I need something or I really want it I ll take my mum shopping and she ll get it for me and I ll get really excited, but sometimes I m just like just I need to get in and out now. It s just, it is stressed Stressful. I just go in my free time, if I ve got money I I ll go up there, I ll, majority of my money that I get goes on clothes straight away. Like I can t do that, I can t do that. Yeah, no, I spend it on clothes I just prefer to shop online coz going into shops and Yeah. Oh yeah, definitely. It is it is stressful and also if you shop online it always has what you want. No, but when you shop online you have the disadvantage of not being to know, not knowing how it feels on you, how it looks when you actually looking at it close up. But then but then when it comes you can get that and you don t have to leave your house I love like shopping in like vintage shops and like little sort of market stalls and stuff like that. I really I don t really like the big shops No, I definitely have to go with the big places like Yeah, more variety. There s there s, yeah more variety and you get to see different things you don t have to keep going to loads of different shops for different things it ll all be in the same place so It s just you know when you think things are gonna look good and then they don t so I have too much trouble with that all the time, so I don t, that s why I don t like to go shopping coz I don t like having to go through the process of, the process of you know buying something and it doesn t look right and having to return it and then people you know not being very nice or helpful with you so I just try to avoid that so I can never find anything on the sales. No. l always go they don t have my size. Yeah. I just can t find anything. No you don t know where to look, that s all I m saying. Thanks very much. Like, I go to sales and I ll get things I ve been looking, I ve been wanting for months and I ll just be like right, it s my size, ten pounds off, mine! Yeah, much easier. umm. No, I always, I always miss the sales. I mean, I m so set on not going shopping that whenever I do go out then people are always telling me you know go to the sales, and I m like yeah, I ve missed everything coz I m stuck in my house you know online trying to find some stuff and Yeah. I go out and there s no sales absolutely all of them finished because I just hide away in my house coz I can t be doing with that it s too stressful for me. It s just a massive problem for me coz I couldn t go with people to help me find sales because I hate that as well so either way it s just a lose lose for me, I just, I can t do sales. I don t see how you can hate shopping, it s just like you can go out, buy so much stuff and then just put it all on your bed and just lay in it and think Erm, I often go shopping with my friends you know, but normally when we go shopping we go somewhere to eat as well so it s not really just shopping, we go somewhere to eat, we just have a nice time pick up girls, just have a nice time! Yeah, I mean it gets a bit frustrating when you can t find what you want. Yeah. That s that s why I shop online a lot. Yeah. I do, like, they always have what you want, in the size you want, in stock, delivery in 5 to 10 working days, you know it s a lot easier. Yes, I definitely prefer online shopping to actually going out and buying it, I prefer it. 6

Today we ve come to the design studio to meet some other people who are working hard to make Beyond look so great. Shall we go and have a look and see what they re doing? Hi, I m Sophie, one of the designers. One of the first jobs that happens in the studio is we take the manuscript, which is being written in a word process document, um, which is being sent to us by the publisher and then we import it into the page layout software that we use in the studio. We take the words and we start putting them in to character styles and we format them into pages as you can see here. It s the very start of the process before any of the designers start designing it up. UNIT 9 LEARNING JOURNEYS Bey U09_095_mov.flv I go to a private school in London. OK, yeah, I go to a boarding school in Oxford. Where are you from? Er, I m from Brussels. Oh, I used to live in America. Oh, OK. I used to be home-schooled there, but now I go to a theatre school in London. Is it nice? Yeah, I like it. Is it different to a normal school? Yeah, it s really different. Oh OK, I go to a local state school. Oh, OK. Is it mixed? Yeah, boys and girls. Oh, right. Is it big? It s pretty big, yeah. Is your drama school big? It s not that big, no. OK. It s bigger than being home-schooled. OK. Yeah, my school there is only 30 people in each year, so I have er like 15 people in my class. Oh, OK. Oh, wow. We have 120 every year, but er the classes vary from about 10 to 30 people. OK. OK. How many classes do you have? Er, for different subjects it varies, so maybe 10, maybe 20. Yeah, we have a maximum of 10 in each class then they split it into groups. Do you like your boarding school? Er, it s OK, I think I need to, I d rather be at home. Do you get homesick? A little bit, yeah. Do you enjoy your theatre school? Yeah, I do. I love singing and acting, so. OK. What kind of lessons do you do then? On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday we do normal lessons, like Maths and English, and then on Thursday and Friday we do dance and drama drama and singing. OK. Do you play lots of sport at your school? We do no sport. What about you? Er, we won the rugby championship last year for the under 15 schools. OK, OK. Do you play sports? Er, well we do er, sport one hour a week, but er, my school is not very good at it. And you? We do lots of sports, it s good state schools, so we enjoy our cricket, football and rugby. What do you play? Cricket is so English. I play football and rugby. So, did you go to nursery school in Brussels as well? Er, yes I did, it s er, er from what I hear it s quite different to the one here because erm, there s a lot more kind of, you start reading at a young age there and things like that and so yeah. Do you remember your first school? Er, I can t remember much, actually. Er, erm, yeah, what about you? Yeah, I can remember a fair bit, lots of different lessons and lots of play recreation time as well. Umm, I remember that, too. I did that but I was home-schooled so it was all on my own. Oh, OK. Who was how did you get taught at home? My mum taught me at home. Oh, OK. And how old were you when you joined your drama school? I was thirteen. OK. We moved here because my dad got moved here cause he got a new job. OK. Ah, that s why we moved down from Brussels as well. Oh. So, what other schools have you been to? I ve just been to the two, my primary and state school Do you enjoy them? Yes, they re both good. I enjoy the lessons and there s lots of variety in the courses. Do you like being only girls? UNIT 10 CHANGING FASHIONS Bey U10_105_mov.flv Roisin: Hi, I m Roisin and I m wearing a black hat that I got about a year ago and it s really good coz you can wear it with everything and it s so warm. I ve got a grey, chunkyknit scarf that I layer with like, with everything and you can wrap it round loads to keep you warm, especially in this weather. I ve just got like a really nice patterned check shirt from I think I stole it off my mum, and it s supposed to be worn to bed, but it s really really warm and really comfy and I really like it. I ve just got a cardigan on underneath because it s really cold at the moment and a denim jacket that was about ten pounds from Brick Lane, which is really good because it s supposed to be about eighty, and I ve just added my own little collar tips on the end, and they screw on at the back, and I think it adds just a little something nice. I ve just got a black skirt on with some knee-high socks and some nice trainers coz they re comfy and you can go anywhere in them. Oh, and I ve got just a couple of bracelets on: this one s from Barcelona and this one s just for a charity. Shay: My name s Shay, and, what I m wearing er from the bottom is some brown boots here and they ve lasted me like two years, which is amazing. And I m wearing some leggings and they re patterned and really bright and colourful, which I think goes nicely with the brown coz it s, you know, very different, so yeah. I m wearing er a scarf coz it s freezing and I think it s nice, it kinda goes with it; it s kinda creamy, it s nice and I ve got a top that kinda matches with it because you know the patterns on here are kind of pink and colourful, so I think that goes nicely with it. Erm, I ve got a big jacket that I got from the States and, er, it s really cosy and really warm, so it s great.
