Introduction to the Operating Instructions Explanation of the safety instructions The Operating Instructions contain the following categories of instructions: DANGER! Instructions highlighted with the word DANGER! draw your attention to possible sources of injury. CAUTION! Instructions highlighted with the word CAUTION draw your attention to possible sources of damage to machinery or the environment. Availability If these Operating Instructions should be mislaid or become unusable, replacement copies are available from Eduard Wille GmbH & Co. KG. The order number is to be found in the bottom righthand corner of the title page. Addenda Amend the Operating Instructions regularly to take account of changes in legal provisions on accident prevention, legal provisions on environmental protection generally applicable health & safety provisions at the location of the tool. 5

These Operating Instructions take into account the current status of safety regulations in the European Union and the United States of America. Conventions used in these Instructions Throughout these Operating Instructions, certain typographical conventions have been used. These allow you to see, at a glance, whether it is standard text, a list of items or a sequence of operations. Fundamental safety instructions Intended purpose TORSIOMAX torque screwdrivers have been developed specifically for controlled tightening of joints in a workshop environment. You will need to use a suitable bit to use this screwdriver correctly. Ensure that all torque screwdrivers are used exclusively for the purpose as described herein. Any use not conforming to the intended use of the screwdriver as described herein can result in damage to property and even personal injury. The intended purpose includes full adherence to the information contained in this instruction booklet, in particular the safety instructions and technical tolerance limits. Furthermore, the buyer is responsible for ensuring that all safety regulations applying at the place of use are adhered to. 6

STAHLWILLE will not accept any liability for damage or injury occurring from use that does not conform with the intended use. Safety instructions The TORSIOMAX torque screwdriver is a precision tool and must be treated with utmost care. Avoid subjecting the tool to physical knocks, chemicals or excessive temperatures beyond the limits given in these instructions. Damp and dirt can lead to malfunctioning. Please note that extremes of climate (cold, heat, humidity) may affect measuring accuracy. DANGER! Never, under any circumstances, use the torque screwdriver on components that are LIVE. There is a danger of electrocution. CAUTION! Do not use the torque screwdriver as an impact tool. This might lead to inaccuracy. 7

CAUTION! Never overload the torque screwdriver as this might lead to lasting damage. Always note the maximum permissible torque. CAUTION! Do not attempt to dismantle the torque screwdriver. This will impair measuring accuracy. The cut-out values may deviate. Delivery and storage The TORSIOMAX torque screwdriver is supplied in a plastic case. This plastic case contains the torque screwdriver itself, Operating Instructions in your language and a works calibration certificate for your torque screwdriver. Storage conditions for the torque screwdriver include a temperature range from 10 C to +50 C. CAUTION! Do not subject the torque screwdriver to jolts and never throw it. This might lead to damage. The cut-out values may deviate. 8

Use General fitting instructions The user must take up a comfortable, firm stance. The user must have sufficient space around him to be able to move freely. Lighting must be good. The torque screwdriver must be allowed to acclimatise to the ambient conditions before being used. The torque screwdriver must always be protected against dirt, damp and other damaging influences. The application environment must be free from all vibration and shock. Attaching the handle No 775/100 TORSIOMAX No 775/100 can be used to torque screws up to 10 Nm. This may result in relatively high forces being applied to the handle of the torque screwdriver. Use the detachable handles to facilitate the application of force at higher torques. Attach both the additional handles firmly to the handle of the torque screwdriver. 9

Choice of bits This TORSIOMAX torque screwdriver is suitable for the following applications: BITS screwdriver inserts and extensions with an E 6.3 mm (1/4 ) outer hex. You will need BIT holder No 3115/2 for use with BITS screwdriver inserts with C4. DANGER! Use only bits that conform to appropriate standards and that are suitable for the intended task in terms of their shape and finish. Otherwise this may result in personal injury. DANGER! Observe under all circumstances the maximum permissible load capacity of the bit used. This may be less than the maximum possible trigger torque of the torque screwdriver. 10

Attaching and removing bits Slide the insert into the internal hex drive of the torque screwdriver until it firmly locates. To remove the insert from the internal hex drive, hold the screwdriver firmly by its handle and pull the insert firmly. Setting the desired torque The torque screwdriver might initially be locked. In this case, you will have to release the lock first (see page 13). The torque screwdriver is fitted with a main scale and a set collar with a secondary scale. 11

Twist the set collar until you reach the required torque value. Note the markings on the main scale. The markings on the main scale show you the approximate value only. The secondary scale on the set collar shows you the exact value. In the following example, 130 cnm has been set on the torque screwdriver: 12

Unlocking and locking No 775/12, No 775a/12, No 775/30 and No 775/50, No 775a/50 To unlock the screwdriver, turn the locking ring towards the O mark until it clicks in place. Once you have set the required torque, you can lock the torque screwdriver to prevent inadvertent adjustment. Hold the handle of the screwdriver in one hand and, using the other hand, turn the locking ring in such a way that the L aligns with the mark. If the locking ring will not allow itself to be turned, try turning to the left or right and try again. The torque screwdriver is now locked. 13

Using the torque screwdriver Only pick up the torque screwdriver by the end of the handle to prevent inadvertent adjustment of the torque set. DANGER! Before you use the tool, check that the cut-off value has been set correctly and that the insert is correctly fitted. Setting the wrong value or using incorrectly fitted inserts can cause injury to you and to others. CAUTION! Never overload the torque screwdriver as this might lead to lasting damage. When applying force to the torque screwdriver, keep the axis of the tool aligned with that of the screw. DANGER! Apply the torque screwdriver in such a way that the tool cannot slip off the head of the nut or bolt. Otherwise you may cause injury to yourself or others. 14

Turn steadily and without any interruption, particularly during the final phase, until you hear a click. The torque level set on the scale has now been reached. As soon as the torque screwdriver has cut out, it is ready for the next job. Cleaning To clean the torque screwdriver, use only a soft, dry cloth. CAUTION! Cleaning agents, water and solvents can damage the torque screwdriver or impair its functions. Repairs, maintenance and adjustment If a torque screwdriver becomes defective or malfunctions, it is essential that it is repaired and adjusted. Repairs may only be carried out by STAHLWILLE. TORSIOMAX torque screwdrivers are maintenance-free. The torque screwdriver may only be calibrated and adjusted using appropriate testers. This tester must conform to DIN EN ISO 6789. 15

Torque screwdrivers are classed as inspection, measuring and test equipment. The calibration frequency will depend on such factors as the accuracy of the measurements taken, their frequency, the typical loads applied during use, ambient conditions during use and the storage conditions when not in use. The intervals for calibrating and adjusting this screwdriver are equivalent to the processes applied at your company for test equipment inspection. If your company has no defined test equipment inspection processes, have the torque screwdriver calibrated and adjusted at the latest once every 12 months or after 5,000 operations. Please ensure all other regulations applicable at the location are applied. Disposal Dispose of the torque screwdriver through a qualified disposal organisation. Adhere to any applicable regulations. If in doubt, contact the recycling company. The torque screwdriver is made of steel and aluminium. The locking ring is made of polycarbonate and the shaft sleeve of polylefin. 16
