Product overview SPT Offshore is the leading offshore contractor for suction pile anchors and foundations. SPT Offshore undertakes and manages EPCI projects worldwide from suction pile foundations or moorings to complete self installing platforms. SPT Offshore is a subsidiary of the Volker Wessels group and has a highly qualified staff to manage offshore EPCI projects, including project managers and engineers, geotechnical and structural engineers, naval architects and a team of experienced offshore personnel. SPT Offshore operates its own well-proven suction pump equipment required for the installation of suction piles and anchors from shallow to deep water. Within the Volker Wessels group, we have access to a large fleet of tugs, multi-purpose vessels, cable lay vessel, plough, flat barges, work barge, rock dump barge and a crane barge. Furthermore, in Rotterdam we operate a fabication yard with direct access to the North Sea. The various SIPs are characterised as follows: SIP I self installing tripod for up to 1,000 ton deck weight SIP II barge installed 4 leg platform for up to 15,000 ton deck weight SIP III barge installed wind turbine suitable for up to 5 MW or more up to 60 m water depth SIP IV self installing platform for up to 5,000 ton deck weight. Self Installing Platforms (SIPs) SPT Offshore has developed several proprietary Self Installing Platform concepts named SIP I through to SIP IV. The SIPs are installed using built-in buoyancy or a flat barge. The marine equipment required to install the SIPs are tugs, suction pumps and (strand) jacks. Offshore heavy lift crane barges and pile driving hammers are not required, which make the SIPs cheap and flexible to install. The SIPs can easily be recovered and re-installed at other fields. SIP I SIP II SIP III SIP IV
Suction Embedded Anchor (SEA) SEA is a very efficient anchor suitable for a wide range of mooring applications from shallow to very deep water. SEA is installed using a re-usable suction pile follower (SPF) to press SEA to the required embedment depth. Thereafter SEA is activated by retrieving the SPF. During retrieval of the SPF, SEA is proof tested in situ, so that no further proof loading is required. The features of the SEA are given below: High capacity versus weight ratio up to 100 (up to 1,500 ton UHC) Low fabrication and transportation costs due to small size Proof tested in situ using suction pile follower No tugs required for installation and testing Deck space requirement on installation vessel is small Holding capacity independent of anchor line inclination Suction Pile Foundations Suction piles offer a good and effective alternative to piled or GBS foundations used for jackets, wellhead protection structures (WHPS) and other subsea structures: Simple installation using subsea pump Short installation time, hence limited weather risk (4 suction piles are simul - taneously installed in approx. 6 hours) Suitable for wide range of soils from soft to stiff clays, from loose to dense sands and layered sandy/ clayey soils Mud mats and levelling equipment are not required Easy to recover and re-usable Suction Anchors Suction anchors are nowadays common practise for the mooring of FPSOs, buoys and for the anchoring of pipelines (start-up piles). Suction anchors offer significant advantages compared to drag anchors or driven piles: Simple installation No proof load required Retrieval and re-use is easy 1 SEA WHPS Jackets suction anchor 1
Cluster Piles Suction piles can be assembled together forming a twin (2) or triple (3) cluster pile. The triple cluster pile is specifically suited for deepwater subsea foundations requiring a tight vertical tolerance less than 0,5 degree. The twin cluster pile is specifically suitable for high horizontal loads and is more efficient than single suction piles. Suction Equipment SPT Offshore operates suction pumps and associated equipment for the swift installation and retrieval of suction piles and anchors up to water depths of 3,000 m or more. The suction pumps are instrumented to record and monitor the essential variables, such as suction pressure, internal soil heave, X&Y inclination and depth of penetration. Research & Development SPT Offshore focusses on the research and development of efficient concepts achieving flexibility and cost reductions for its customers. SPT Offshore has developed these innovative concepts through thorough research by: Performing tow tank tests, to verify the marine motions of SIPs Performing real scale and lab tests on the SEA anchor Developing 3D FE geotechnical software Clusterpiles Suction pumps R & D Detailed design 2
