This edition of Tips for Success comes courtesy of Lottery District Sales Representatives Lisa Varalli, who has more than 13 years of experience working out of the Area 1/Philadelphia office, and Kathleen Moore, who has worked out of the Area 5/Pittsburgh office for nine years. Ask for the sale is one of the most important Best Practices for retailers. What special things do you do with your retailers to achieve this best practice? Varalli: i stress that if you do not ask, they won t play. i try to provide examples to the retailer on how they could ask for the sale. Things such as informing a player of a jackpot amount and asking how many tickets they would like, or letting them know a new game is now on sale that offers a second-chance drawing. Moore: i always explain that sales do increase when asking for the sale and go over this point with them on a continuing basis. Why is it even more important to ask for the sale when jackpots are high? Moore: During high jackpots, asking for the sale is a great way to engage customers who may not be paying attention to the jackpot signs or other in-store advertising. Varalli: After telling players about the jackpot, ask how many tickets they would like to buy! Also, take the opportunity to cross-sell with other lottery games such as Scratch-Offs and Fast Play. i remind all retailers to post jackpot signs on their main doors. DSR Lisa Varalli What are your other favorite Best Practices to discuss with retailers? Varalli: Pay prizes! it not only makes customers happy and keeps them coming back, but it enables them to spend more on products in your store. Moore: On top of paying prizes and keeping games displayed, i emphasize the importance of good customer service. i always urge my retailers to smile and be friendly so players have a good experience and will want to come back. How can retailers be better prepared for your next store visit? Moore: By having your tickets ready and creating a list of questions or concerns, we can make the most of our visit. We ll then have enough time to go over strategies to grow sales. DSR Kathleen Moore Varalli: i ask my retailers to designate a small area where they can place returned tickets, requests for supplies, and notes with questions. That way, i will still be able to help in the event that the store s main contact is not free when i stop in. i do not want my retailers to miss an opportunity to help them succeed. Thank you, Lisa and Kathleen, for sharing your tips for success. 6

Players try to match up to 10 numbers (known as SPOTS) per draw. The more SPOTS players match, the more they can win (see Prize Levels). Players must use a playslip to choose numbers for each of their desired SPOTS or select Quick Pick to allow the computer to choose them at random. Adding the Keno Mul plier op on will mul ply the prize for a winning play depending on the Mul plier drawn (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X). For example, if a Keno play wins $10, the Keno Mul plier op on was chosen at purchase, and the Mul plier drawn was 3X, the player s prize would be $30. Adding Keno Mul plier triples the total play cost ($1 base play + $2 Mul plier = $3 cket). Sample Ticket Players can also choose to play the same numbers for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 or 20 consecu ve draws. The maximum play cost per playslip is $1,200. Prizes up to and including $2,500 can be validated and paid at any PA Lo ery retailer. Players with winning ckets over $600 must le a claim form. For prizes over $2,500, a standard claim form must be completed and submi ed to Lo ery for payment.
