Critical Needs: Environmental & Cultural Dimension Fostering of climate change mitigation and effective adaptation strategies for tourism focus on those countries which are most likely to be negatively affected by climate change development of sector strategies, incentives, regulation & legislation, determination of binding emission reduction targets, scientific based research and detailed vulnerability analyses, risk management and disaster prevention strategies, global dialogue with the aviation sector etc. Environmental & cultural Improving and mainstreaming the general environmental performance of tourism enterprises especially of SMMEs minimum environmental standards based on GSTC, management schemes, incentives, regulation and legislation in countries, special awareness campaigns, capacity building programs and technical advice systems etc. 7

Critical Needs: Environmental & Cultural Dimension Based on existing experiences and mechanisms promoting sustainable use of biodiversity and natural/protected areas mainstreaming the adoption of sustainable tourism planning tools; extending PPPs; linking tourism, protected area management, wildlife management and local community development etc. Encouraging an overall approach (conceptual frameworks, strategic concepts and mechanisms) how existing linkages between (tangible and intangible) cultural heritage and tourism can be improved and sustained to foster investment in cultural heritage, reduce poverty and to preserve local traditions and values Developing of capacity building programmes on the application of existing tools and approaches for joint management and operations 8 Environmental & cultural

Proposed Vision and Mission 10YFP Sustainable Tourism Vision Our vision is for a tourism sector that has globally adopted sustainable consumption and production practices resulting in enhanced environmental and social outcomes and improved economic performance. 10YFP Sustainable Tourism Programme Mission The 10YFP sustainable tourism programme supports cooperation between stakeholders for the development and implementation of innovations and good practices in resource efficient and lowcarbon tourism planning, reducing the loss of biodiversity, conserving ecosystems, preserving cultural heritage, alleviating poverty and improving sustainable livelihoods. 12
