MODEL T10815 GRINDING ATTACHMENTS INSTRUCTIONS For questions or help with this product contact Tech Support at (570) 546-9663 or techsupport@grizzly.com Introduction Designed to work exclusively with the T10814 Tool Grinder, the Model T10815 Grinding Attachments Kit includes three attachments for sharpening different types of tools: end mills and reamers, lathe tools, and drill bits. Inventory Operation End Mill & Reamer Attachment This attachment mounts on the cross-slide bedway of the T10814 index It is equipped with an adjustable index pin for precise tool alignment when side-grinding or end-grinding. 3. Insert end mill into collet size closest to shank diameter. The T10814 Tool Grinder comes with five collets. 4. Place collet in quill (see Figure 3). Collet 6. Align index pin with end mill by positioning pin at top of flute (see Figure 5), then secure pin by tightening cap screws with 5mm hex wrench. Note: For end-grinding and side-grinding operations, index pin provides a fixed point of reference to achieve the same grinding angle on each cutting edge. Cap Screws Quill Index Pin Figure 3. Index pin aligned with top of flute. 7. Using 4mm hex wrench, loosen cap screw on quill stop collar (see Figure 6) and position for maximum depth of operation. This position will vary with each tool, and finding it is a process of trial and error. Adjust stop collar until satisfied with depth of movement. Quill Stop Collar Figure 4. Adjust T10814 index bracket controls and carriage slides to position end mill at correct angle for grinding operation. Rotate T10814 spindle handwheel (see Figure 7) toward you to move grinding wheel against end mill. T10814 Spindle Handwheel Lathe Tool Attachment This attachment mounts on the cross-slide bedway of the T10814 index bracket and uses an adjustment wheel to fine-tune the positioning of the cross slide. It also includes two 5mm cap screws to secure lathe tools for grinding operations. Tools Needed Qty Hex Wrench 5mm... 1 To use lathe tool attachment: 1. DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER! 2. Insert attachment into cross-slide dovetails on T10814 Tool Grinder index bracket (see Figure 8). Ensure that cross-slide adjustment nut slides into bedway guide. Secure by tightening guide screw. Figure 7. Location of spindle handwheel on T10814 Tool Grinder. If end-grinding, sharpen one cutting face, rotate spindle handwheel counterclockwise to disengage grinding wheel from end mill. Then rotate attachment quill to next flute and repeat grinding procedure until each cutting face has been sharpened. If side-grinding, turn attachment quill clockwise, ensuring that end mill flute follows index pin through length of cut. Rotate spindle handwheel counterclockwise to disengage grinding wheel from end mill, then rotate attachment quill to top of next flute and repeat grinding procedure until each cutting edge has been sharpened. Turn spindle handwheel counterclockwise to disengage grinding wheel from end mill, then turn machine OFF. 13. Unscrew quill handwheel and remove workpiece. 5. Turn machine ON. Always ensure that workpiece is held securely by BOTH cap screws on lathe attachment. Failure to do so could result in lathe cutting tool being ejected from attachment during grinding operation, resulting in serious injury to operator and bystanders. 6. Rotate T10814 spindle handwheel (see Figure 7 on previous page) clockwise to move grinding wheel against lathe cutting tool, as shown in Figure 10. 3. Install lathe cutting tool in attachment (see Figure 9) with cutting edge oriented vertically. Secure by tightening two cap screws. Depending on size of lathe cutting tool, it may be necessary to use steel shims to ensure cap screws are able to tighten against the tool. Cap Screws Figure 10. Lathe cutting tool positioned for grinding operation. 7. Once desired finish is achieved, turn spindle handwheel counterclockwise to disengage grinding wheel from lathe tool, then turn machine OFF. Adjust T10814 index bracket controls and carriage slides to position lathe cutting tool at correct angle for grinding operation. Tip of lathe cutting tool should be approximately 2mm from face of grinding wheel. Drill Bit Attachment This attachment mounts in the index head quill included with the T10814 Tool Grinder. It can accommodate drill bits from 3 18mm. Tools Needed Qty Hex Wrenches 2.5, 4, 5mm... 1 EA. To use drill bit attachment: 1. DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER! 2. Make sure index head on T10814 Tool Grinder is installed on index 4. Loosen cap screw on rotating base, then slide collet locating pin into collet (see Figure 12). The smaller locating pin on attachment slides into cross-slide base. Note: The index pin on the T10814 index head must be removed before the cross-slide locating pin on the drill bit attachment can be inserted. Cap Screw 3. Place drill bit in V-guide so that bit extends approximately 0.02" (0.5mm) beyond tip of attachment (see Figure 13). V Guide Sliding Swivel Clamp Figure 13. 7. Secure sliding swivel clamp at base of drill bit. 8. Position drill bit so that index plate sits just inside flute (see Figure 14), then tighten index plate set screw. Index Plate 11. Adjust T10814 index bracket controls and carriage slides to position drill bit at correct angle for grinding operation. Because the cutting edge of the drill bit is rounded, you must rotate the attachment side to side across the face of the grinding wheel during operation. Note: See T10814 owner's manual for detailed instructions on how to operate index 12. Turn machine ON. Set Screw 13. With drill bit positioned approximately 2mm from grinding wheel, rotate T10814 spindle handwheel (see Figure 7 on Page 3) clockwise to move grinding wheel against drill bit, as shown in Figure 16. Position drill bit clamp as far forward as practical to secure bit firmly in V-guide, then tighten cap screw on adjustable slide (see Figure 15). Note: Moving this clamp too far back could result in tool chatter and a poor finish on drill bit. Drill Bit Clamp Figure 16. Drill bit being fed into face of grinding wheel. 14. Slowly rotate attachment left to right across face of drill bit cutting edge. Repeat movement until desired finish is achieved. 15. Turn machine OFF. Cap Screw Figure 15. Adjustable drill bit clamp and cap screw. 10. Tighten drill bit clamp on drill bit by turning knob clockwise (see Figure 15 above). 16. Loosen drill bit clamp. Rotate drill bit 180 and align index plate with flute, as described in Step 7. 17. Repeat Steps 11 14.
