Here are just a few of the things we ve been working on: We re introducing a new property management style of managing homes and appointing dedicated local property managers who will be getting to know customers in their areas so that they can better understand local issues which will help in finding long term solutions. We ve run a successful patchless working pilot for our housing teams that allows them to focus on the customer, rather than the area. It gives them clearer focus and greater impact by allowing them to be more flexible. We ve improved our website by stripping back some of the clutter and making information easier to find. We ve created a new Tenancy Sustainment team to further improve our advice and support offer to help our customers through the lifetime of their tenancies. See page five to find out more. 2 Orbit Life orbit.org.uk

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AND REAL LIFE STORY A day in the life of Employment Skills Coach Cheryl Hinkson Cheryl Hinkson is an Employment Skills Coach in the Stratford-upon- Avon District. Her job is to offer employment advice and guidance ranging from CV writing, interview skills and help with applying for jobs to self-employment support. 09.00: Cheryl s first appointment of the day. She is meeting with a customer who has been referred to her through the job centre. After a series of health problems the customer has been left unemployed with low selfesteem and confidence. Cheryl books her on to the GOALS programme to help her build her confidence and face new challenges. 10.30: Cheryl meets with a customer who has recently secured a job. He doesn t currently have the funds to purchase the uniform he requires so Cheryl is going to help him to apply for a No Stopping grant to get him the support he needs. 12.00: Back at the office, she writes up her notes and checks on her other customers. 14.00: After lunch, Cheryl phones round potential employers to check whether they are hiring and if they are whether any of her customers have the correct set of skills to apply for a role. 15.00: Cheryl meets a customer for his third appointment to go over interview skills and techniques to prepare him for his job interview the next day. 17.00: A final look through her emails and any enquiries that she will need to follow up on for the next day. Find out how Lynn (pictured above), who was left unemployed after health complications, got back on her feet and into a job again with Cheryl s help and support. Real life story: There is no such word as can t I feel more confident in myself and I don t worry about other people s perceptions of me anymore. Due to a severe kidney infection which affected her balance and the diagnosis of an underactive thyroid, Lynn was left jobless and didn t want to leave the house. It was my children that kept me going, I care for my youngest as she is disabled and I thought I can t do this to them, enough is enough says Lynn. It was through the job centre that I found out about the services Orbit offers I didn t realise they had all that help and support. By working with Cheryl Hinkson, her Employment Skills Coach, it wasn t long before she was offered an interview. It was a success, she s now working full time for BUPA as a care assistant. Her message to anyone that is worried about going back into employment after dealing with poor health is; Definitely go for it, it will change your life and how you feel about yourself. Get FREE support getting into work just like Lynn by contacting our employment support coaches today on betterdays@orbit.org.uk or by calling 0800 678 1221.
