FLUXUS F601 Function Measurement Principle Transit Time Difference Principle In order to measure te flow of a medium in a pipe, ultrasonic signals are used, employing te transit time difference principle. Ultrasonic signals are emitted by a transducer installed on te pipe and received by a second transducer. Tese signals are emitted alternately in te flow direction and against it. As te medium in wic te signals propagate is flowing, te transit time of te ultrasonic signals in te flow direction is sorter tan against te flow direction. Te transit time difference, t, is measured and allows te flowmeter to determine te average flow velocity along te propagation pat of te ultrasonic signals. A flow profile correction is ten performed in order to obtain te area averaged flow velocity, wic is proportional to te volumetric flow rate. Two integrated microprocessors control te entire measuring process. Tis allows te flowmeter to remove disturbance signals, and to ceck eac received ultrasonic wave for its validity wic reduces noise. HybridTrek If te gaseous or solid content in te medium increases occasionally during measurement, a measurement wit te transit time difference principle is no longer possible. NoiseTrek mode will ten be selected by te flowmeter. Tis measurement metod allows te flowmeter to acieve a stable measurement even wit ig gaseous or solid content. Te transmitter can switc automatically between transit time and NoiseTrek mode witout any canges to te measurement setup. Number of Sound Pats Te number of sound pats is te number of transits of te ultrasonic signal troug te medium in te pipe. Depending on te number of sound pats, te following metods of installation exist: reflection arrangement Te number of sound pats is even. Bot of te transducers are mounted on te same side of te pipe. Correct positioning of te transducers is easier. diagonal arrangement Te number of sound pats is odd. Bot of te transducers are mounted on opposite sides of te pipe. In te case of a ig signal attenuation by te medium, pipe and coatings, diagonal arrangement wit 1 sound pat will be used. Te preferred metod of installation depends on te application. Wile increasing te number of sound pats increases te accuracy of te measurement, signal attenuation increases as well. Te optimum number of sound pats for te parameters of te application will be determined automatically by te transmitter.
