GTEMCELL GTEM-1500 For emissions and immunity testing Introduction The GTEM (Gigahertz Transverse Electro Magnetic) cell is a low-cost alternative measurement facility for both radiated emission and immunity measurements. In principle the GTEM cell is a coaxial line expanding pyramidally at its end terminated by a combination of broadband resistors and RF absorbers designed and constructed to match an impedance of 50 Ohms. It is included in the recently published standard IEC/EN 61000-4-20 Emission and Immunity Testing in Transverse Electromagnetic (TEM) Waveguides. Compared to other measuring methods like EMC test in anechoic chambers or OATS (Open Area Test Sites), GTEM-cells offer some significant advantages for the testing of small and medium sized EUT s (Equipment Under Test) up to a frequency range of 20 GHz. Quick turnarounds of the EUT as well as numerous testing variations are easy and fast to handle. Switching from emission to immunity testing requires only simple adjustments from receiver input to amplifier output. You are irrespective of long waiting times associated with off-site test labs or weather and ambient delays that can occur at OATS facilities. Whether you are at the design qualification, pre-compliance, compliance, or production sampling stage, the GTEMCELL is the right choice for you!.

Generally allowed flatness is 3 db, this only takes effect after the first resonance point. The example below shows 10 V/m with a GTEM 1500: Septum height = 1,500 m Flatness = 3 db = 2 Power Required = (E x h) 2 /R x Flatness x Modulation Allowance Where E = required field strength: h = septum height: R = GTEM input impedance 50 Ohm Power Required = (10 x 1,500) 2 / 50 x 2 x 3.24 = 29,16 Watt

Before using the GTEM-1500 please read the following instructions

READ WARNINGS BEFORE USING ASSISTANCE - Refer to ours local dealers or contact us by mail at: gtem.cell@gmail.com HANDLE CAREFULLY The GTem cell is a professional test equipment intended for EMC emissions and immunity test purposes operated by trained personnel. Some care are necessary: - To move the cell don t take the apex!, push or pull from the trolley frame, before moving un-lock the brakes on the swively wheels and when you finish lock again. - Open or close the door handling softly. - Insert always straight the N and SMA connectors, don t tight too much, it is not necessary!. - A N type corner adaptor connector to protect the apex is supplied, please don t remove it. In case of break replace, try to use always this adaptor to reduce stress at the N apex connector. RADIO FREQUENCY RADIATION Personnel should not be exposed to the microwave energy which may radiate from this device. All inputs or output RF connection gaskets must be leak proof. Never look inside or leave doors open when this device is energized!. ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD Strong RF levels may cause de-magnetization and interference to others services. Operate always with the door closed and keep far away from sensitive devices. SHOCK HAZARD Accidental short circuit or leakage current may occurs: Supply the unit through magnetothermal differential switches lines. Keep always the GTem cell grounded permanent with a 16sqmm. conductor, also with power supply disconnected. During normal tests operation connect energy only with the door closed. ELECTROSTASTIC DISCHARGE To avoid ESD keep always the GTem cell grounded fitted with a permanent earth 16mmq. conductor. DANGER Risk of injury at hands and head or cuts around the metallic surfaces of the chamber may occurs. Leave around the cell a free area from obstacles. MAINTENANCE Verify periodically: - the status of the door gasket, (you can also reverse the gaskets before replace with a new one...normally the life is over 5year ). - I/O connectors integrity. - Oils the wheels of the trolley and the door hinges if some oxide appears. - clean the knifes of the door with metal wool or fine abrasive paper. Clean inside the chamber excess of carbon dust of the absorbers with a vacuum cleaner. Protect metallic surfaces against corrosion, cleaning with a soft cloth wet of Vaseline, or Paraffin oils. Avoid any cleaner water or chlorine based products! For any trouble or further information please contact: gtem.cell@gmail.com you are welcome!. TROUBLESHOOTING No power supply: the main switch is OFF, or over current >16A No field with RF power applied: pin of the coaxial connector broken, connection cable defective: replace with a good quality one.

ADDITIONAL INFO Power supply: when necessary connect the AC 230V power cord only to tapes with differential switch and magneto-thermal switch. Load: Do not apply over load to the AC line filter: remember the Max. load* is 15A for the plug and 10Amps DC for the banana jacks, (* according with the filters specifications) Ground A ground connection is necessary for your safety: connect permanently the ground screw placed nearby the filter box at the your building earth system with a 16mm 2. Verify periodically the status of the connection. Remember that the metallic structure is conductive Additional holes: You can make holes only on the technical panel ( remove it if necessary), than place wave guide. When you don't use close the holes with metal cup or fill them with metallic wool. RF Power input: Usually at low level no care is necessary, the terminations are over dimensioned (the limit of the components is 1Kw in normal environmental conditions -10 C to +40 C and operating temperature could reach 100 C!). In hi-power RF level (Over 200W) RF, special care are necessary for your safety and health. WARRANTY The Gtem cell is covered from defects for a period of 2 years. Are not covered normal use parts as gaskets, I/O connectors, line filters. Defective parts noticed us are replaced with the same parts if available or superior with no cost added. Assembly costs are not included, if required our personnel is available.
