We hope you will enjoy using this tool for many years. Your MFR-250 Multi Function Tool has been designed for sanding, chiselling, cutting and many additional applications and is intended for DIY use only.! ELECTRICAL SAFETY! Warning! When using mains-powered equipment, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire, electric shock, personal injury and material damage. Read and understand the manual prior to operating this tool. Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this tool for future reference. The electric motor has been designed for 230V and 240V only. Always check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate. Note: The supply of 230V and 240V on Ozito tools are interchangeable for Australia and New Zealand. This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS 600745-13100: 2002; therefore no earth wire is required. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified electrician or a power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool. Using an Extension Lead Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock. 3

Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in all of the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool. 1) Work area safety a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. 2) Electrical safety a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. 3) Personal safety a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. 4

This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust-related hazards. 4) Power tool use and care a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. 5) Service a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. b) If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. 5

Additional Safety Instructions for Multi Function Tools This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Recommendations for the use of a residual current device with a rated residual current of 30mA or less. Using an Extension Lead Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective. When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock. It is recommended that the extension lead is a maximum of 25m in length. Do Not use multiple extension leads. 6

To attach an accessory to the Multi Function Tool, ensure that the large hole located within the series of smaller perforated holes on the accessory is correctly placed over the drive spindle (4) of the Multi Function Tool. Choose the desired angle required for your application and position the series of smaller accessory perforated holes over the raised accessory locating pins on the drive spindle (4) of the Multi Function Tool. Be sure that all of the holes of the accessory are now correctly located onto the drive spindle (4) and the accessory is sitting flat against the face of the drive spindle (4) (Fig. 1 & 1a). 2. Place the accessory fixing washer (5) in alignment with the inner hole of the drive spindle (4). Ensure the flat side of the accessory fixing washer (5) is facing towards the accessory. 3. Insert the locking bolt (6) through the accessory fixing washer (5) and into the drive spindle (4) of the Multi Function Tool. Hand tighten only. 4. Tighten the locking bolt (6) using the allen key (7) in a clockwise direction (Fig. 2). Do not overtighten! Loosen the locking bolt (6) using the allen key (7) in an anti-clockwise direction. 2. Remove the locking bolt (6) and the accessory fixing washer (5) from the Multi Function Tool. Remove the accessory. 3. To re-attach an accessory, follow the instructions on Attaching your accessory. Attaching The Side Handle The side handle (13) should be assembled to the Multi Function Tool prior to use. This is done by screwing the threaded end of the side handle (13) firmly into the alloy gear gase of the Multi Function Tool. The side handle can be fitted to the left or right side of the Multi Function Tool to maximise user comfort according to the type of application being undertaken. Choose the most appropriate position considering user comfort (preferred hand) and the task at hand. To reduce the risk of injury and to ensure maximum control during use, hold the tool with both hands while the tool is in operation. 7

MFR-250 manual.qxd 1/12/11 11:24 AM Page 9 ASSEMBLY (cont.) Changing Sanding Paper NOTE: The sanding pad (12) is a hook and loop baseplate covered with Velcro material. The sanding paper (11) can therefore be quickly and simply attached or removed from the Velcro fastening system. 1. Align the sanding paper (11) to the sanding pad (12) and press firmly to hold in place. As this product does not include a dust extraction system, it is not critical that the holes in the sanding paper lines up with the holes on the sanding pad (12). 2. To remove or change the sanding paper carefully peel off the sanding paper from one of the triangle ends (Fig. 3). Fig. 3 OPERATION Operating the On/Off Switch 1. To turn the Multi Function Tool on, slide the on/off switch (2) forward (Fig. 4). 2. To turn the Multi Function Tool off, slide the on/off switch (2) towards the rear of the Multi Function Tool. Fig. 4 Adjusting the Variable Speed NOTE: In various applications you will need to select the correct speed. 1. When the Multi Function Tool power is turned on, select the oscillation frequency speed by scrolling the variable speed dial (1) to your desired speed. (Fig. 5) The higher the number on the variable speed dial (1) the faster the oscillation frequency of the Multi Funtion Tool. 2. MFR-250 manual.qxd 1/12/11 11:24 AM Page 10 OPERATION (cont.) Choosing the Correct Sanding Paper Sanding paper (11) is rated according to the number marked on the rear of the sanding paper (11). The higher the number, the smaller and less coarse the particles are on the sanding paper (11). The lower the number, the larger and more coarse the particles are on the sanding paper, this will provide a more aggressive sanding action. Coarse grit (eg.40) is used for removing paint and sanding down rough surfaces. Medium grit (eg.80) is used for sanding down plain timber. Fine grit (eg.120) is used to give a smooth finish to bare wood. Extra fine grit (eg.400-1200) is used for polishing or sanding between coats of paint. If there are still marks on your work after sanding, try stepping back to a coarser grade of sanding paper and sanding the marks out. Then recommence with the original choice of grit, or try using a finer (higher numbered) piece of sand paper (11) to eliminate the unwanted marks and finish the job. NOTE: Try not to apply excessive pressure when using the Multi Function Tool as a sander as excessive pressure and coarse sanding paper (11) can lead to swirl marks or ring impressions on your workpiece. Sanding NOTE: Ensure you have the correct sanding paper for your application. Always test on a scrap workpiece before using on your workpiece. 1. In sanding mode, the Multi Function Tool can be used on materials such as wood, plastic, metal and painted surfaces. 2. Slide the on/off switch (2) forward to the on position. Ensure the Multi Function Tool is not placed on the workpiece. 3. Select the desired oscillation frequency speed on the variable speed dial (1) and wait until the motor reaches its maximum speed. 4. Place the Multi Function Tool on your workpiece, ensuring the whole area of the sanding base is in Fig. 6 contact with the work surface (Fig. 6). 5. Allow the Multi Function Tool to do the work and do not apply heavy pressure on the Multi Function Tool. Heavy pressure does not increase the removal of material but will wear your sanding paper (11) faster. 6. Ensure you have the correct angle and only apply light pressure to avoid cutting the surface. 1. In scraping mode the Multi Function Tool can be used to remove materials such as fabrics, adhesives and vinyls on materials such as wood, plastic, metal and painted surfaces. 2. Slide the on/off switch (2) forward to the on position. Ensure it is not placed on the workpiece. 3. Select the desired oscillation frequency speed on the variable speed dial (1) and wait until the motor reaches its maximum speed. 4. Place the Multi Function Tool on the workpiece. Ensure you have angled the scraper blade correctly (Fig. 10). Fig. 10 5. Allow the scraper to do the work and do not apply heavy pressure on the Multi Function Tool. Heavy pressure can cut into the surface or overload the Multi Function Tool. 11

MFR-250 manual.qxd 1/12/11 11:24 AM Page 13 MAINTENANCE Keep the ventilation vents of the Multi Function Tool clean at all times, if possible, prevent foreign matter from entering the vents. After each use, blow air through the Multi Function Tool housing to ensure it is free from all dust particles which may build up. Build up of dust particles may cause the Multi Function Tool to overheat and fail. If the enclosure of the Multi Function Tool requires cleaning do not use solvents but a moist soft cloth only. Never let any liquid get inside the Tool; never immerse any part of the Multi Function Tool into a liquid. Carbon brushes When the carbon brushes wear out the Multi Function Tool will spark and/or stop. Discontinue use as soon as this happens. They should be replaced prior to recommencing use of the Multi Function Tool. Carbon brushes are a wearing component of the tool therefore not covered under warranty. Continuing to use the Multi Function Tool when carbon brushes need to be replaced may cause permanent damage to the Multi Function Carbon brushes Tool. Carbon brushes will wear out after many uses but when the carbon brushes need to be replaced take the tool to an electrician or a power tool repairer for a quick and low cost replacement. Always replace both carbon brushes at the same time.
