The innovative design of the Borri B9000FXS and B9600FXS range makes it one of the most technologically advanced UPS of its kind. Exclusively developed by Borri, the FXS series delivers an advanced combination of low input current distortion, unity power factor input, high overall efficiency and maximum load protection ensuring ultimate power quality. This sophisticated arrangement of features make this series ideal for critical applications where reliability and high performance are fundamental. In addition, the FXS range comprises an IGBT input rectifier design with dual DSP (Digital Signal Processing) and µc (Micro Controller) technologies, which provides full digital control. The FXS configuration guarantees high quality output required by loads requiring a stable and clean source of power, whilst ensuring that auxiliary power supplies and processors are no longer single points of failure as with some other UPS Systems. VFI (Voltage & Frequency Independent) Online Double Conversion topology, provides built-in inverter galvanic protection, completely isolating the output of the UPS from mains power problems and further protection is achieved via an integral output isolation transformer. Online Double Conversion Ultimate protection for all loads from data centres to industrial applications, the B9000/B9600FXS incorporates Online Double Conversion or VFI (Voltage and Frequency Independent) topology. In Online Double Conversion mode the output voltage and frequency are constantly generated by the inverter and so are isolated from any input power disturbances, spikes, dips or outages. For maximum protection, the batteries are positioned in the conversion circuit to ensure there is no break or switching should the need arise for them to power the load. This technology allows for an extremely wide range of input voltage and frequency, whilst enabling the UPS to control perfect output conditions without having to use battery power. As the AC input is always converted to DC and then converted back to AC, the double conversion process provides complete electrical isolation of the output from the input, in fact unless the inverter is switched off the critical load will never see the raw mains power UPS Block Diagram w w w. b o r r i. c o. u k 3
Enhanced Compatibility with Mains & Generators The B9000FXS/B9600FXS use an IGBT input rectifier design, encompassing an advanced PFC (Power Factor Correction), which can keep input current THDi (Total Harmonic Distortion of the input) at a level of less than 3% and an input power factor within 1% of unity, even when only small loads are applied. Historically this has resulted in poor operating efficiency, however, investment at component level in the design of B9000FXS/B9600 FXS means that the complete range, which has been independently certified by TüV NORD, can perform with overall efficiency levels of greater than 95% through mid-range loadings, in online double conversion mode. Transformer Based In keeping with tradition and time proven reliability, the B9000FXS and B9600FXS include an output isolation transformer as standard. The benefit of eliminating the possibility of high DC voltage destroying a valuable data centre in the case of a failing semiconductor, certainly outweighs the small additional footprint required. The transformer increases the overload capabilities, step load performance and short circuit clearing capability and with the addition of a bypass isolation transformer (which produces no losses in normal mode) floating neutrals can be eliminated. High frequency ripple and harmonic distortion of the inverter waveform can also be eliminated with the integration of the transformer with the output AC filter capacitors forms a low-pass filter. Air flow for the B9000FXS/B9600FXS is drawn from the base of the UPS and is exhausted out of the top, this design allows for the UPS to be installed against side or rear walls greatly reducing space. Parallel Offering parallel options for redundancy or capacity modes, the B9600FXS and B9600FXS can add future resilience or scalable growth Up to 8 units can be connected in parallel giving a total scalable power output of 6.4MVA. The FXS series incorporates a fully digital, parallel control circuitry and acts on both active and reactive power on each phase of the UPS outputs. This allows accurate load current sharing among the UPS units even during transient conditions. Parallel control is distributed between all units and communication is achieved through the use of a CAN BUS connection loop. This eliminates any single point of failure within the system and increases reliability. Ultra High Efficiency - Smart Online (SOL) While we advocate that ultimate protection is only achieved whilst operating in online double conversion mode, we also understand that in some situations users will require ultimate efficiency. With this in mind, the FXS series now features smart online mode (SOL). This mode significantly reduces energy consumption as the load is fed primarily through the bypass line. The SOL function continually monitors the input characteristics of the supply and the UPS switches to Inverter within 2mS should the control system experience any anomalies. This mode is perfect for achieving a reduced data centre PUE. Intelligent design of the system connections allow for easy installation and future additions without the need for a power down. In the modular arrangement, units can be added or removed whilst the system is supporting a load. The smart parallel function enables individual units to shut down based on the load applied, delivering optimum efficiency whilst maintaining redundancy. This means the units can be installed close to walls and adjacent equipment providing a significant reduction in floor space. As all critical components are accessible from the front of the unit, regular maintenance can be completed with ease.
