Armenta, Jr., M.P.A. Vice President of Community Affairs, San Bernardino County Stephanie F. Kight Senior Vice President of Community Affairs Scott Marshall SENIOR Vice President of Human Resources and Organizational Development John P. McHugh, M.D. Vice President of Clinical PRACTICE/Medical Director Irene Salazar, M.S. Vice President of Community Education & Outreach Betha Schnelle, M.P.H. Vice President of Patient Services Daniel B. Seargeant, M.B.A. Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations I am building healthy communities I PROTECT access to affordable, high-quality health care for everyone. I STAND UP for a woman's right to make personal decisions about her body and health. I SUPPORT medically accurate, age-appropriate, abstinence-first sexual health education that encourages young people to make healthy decisions. I am the VOICE for the women, men, teens, and families who rely on Planned Parenthood every day. I AM PLANNED PARENTHOOD.

JON DUNN president and CEO Allyson sonenshine Board chair "It is your passion, your commitment, and your support that provides the motivation to continue building healthier communities." "Through it all, you ve continued to stand firm in your commitment to building healthier communities healthier women, healthier families, and healthier lives." As the father of a 10-year-old daughter, I have a very personal stake in the quality of reproductive health care and sexuality education available in Orange and San Bernardino counties. The environment in which young people come of age today is so drastically different than in generations past that it is challenging to provide the balance necessary to ensure our children are equipped to make healthy choices. That's where our work at Planned Parenthood comes in. Every year that goes by, I realize the new ways that our communities the women, men, teens, and families who rely on us every day need Planned Parenthood as a resource for unbiased, comprehensive information and high-quality reproductive health care. Having served 15 years as President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, I am very proud of the contribution we are making to keep our communities healthy places to live. In the past year alone, we've expanded our hours and medical services to better meet the needs of an everincreasing population of patients who are turning to us after losing jobs and health insurance. We're also taking health education into our communities in highly effective, cost-efficient ways, via our Peer Education Program in local high schools and by utilizing technology for our toll-free, online, and text messaging sex ed hotlines. Perhaps my source of greatest pride, however, is our recently launched Abortion Residency Training Program with the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. After nearly five years of effort, this vital partnership ensures that future generations of physicians are trained to provide the full range of reproductive health care, including abortions. The highly charged political environment in which we operate makes this program one of the cornerstones of our affiliate, and also proves just how well-respected Planned Parenthood s quality of care is viewed in the medical community. Fifteen years after taking the helm at a small, community-based nonprofit, I am gratified to see the many ways in which we have grown. Of course, organizations, just like people, grow to their best when they have a strong foundation beneath them. It is your passion, your commitment, and your support that provides the motivation to continue building healthier communities. It is because of you, that we can build a Planned Parenthood that continually strives to better serve Orange and San Bernardino counties. Sincerely, Jon Dunn President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties Standing up for others isn t always easy. Standing up for reproductive justice, equality, and dignity is no exception. And doing so often has its price. We ve seen these ups and downs loud and clear this past year. On one side, we ve faced the de-funding efforts and religious grandstanding of the Orange County Board of Supervisors and mourned the brutal murder of Dr. George Tiller. Yet, on the flip side, we ve celebrated the election of a pro-choice president, the defeat of a parental notification initiative, and the lifting of the global gag rule all while suffering a national economic crisis. And through it all, you ve continued to stand firm in your commitment to building healthier communities healthier women, healthier families, and healthier lives. You refused to back down when the supervisors threatened teen health by cutting funds for comprehensive sex education. And when legislators put family planning programs on the chopping block during state budget cuts, you demanded protection for the thousands of newly uninsured and unemployed families that need Planned Parenthood more than ever before. In turn, we ve worked diligently this past year to protect our commitment to you. We ve streamlined operations to ensure your dollars will go further in providing the vital programs and services our communities need. Our medical centers have continued to increase efficiency so we can accommodate the needs of an ever-increasing patient base, while also extending hours and expanding services to better serve the needs of a community that calls Planned Parenthood its medical home. In the coming year, we ll also be harnessing technology in new, exciting ways that will allow us to maximize our presence in your neighborhood making it easier for patients to make appointments and access information, and for teens and families to get expert answers to sexual health questions from certified health educators. As you continue to stand up for the rights of the women, men, teens, and families who rely on us every day, we ll continue to stand tall as one of the most trusted health care providers in the state. Fondly, Allyson Sonenshine Board Chair of Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties 3 4

A look back: Our greatest accomplishments of 2008-09 Who we serve UCI partnership After nearly five years of planning, Planned Parenthood and the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine joined together to begin the Abortion Residency Training Program. This joint venture provides medical residents with hands-on reproductive health training at Planned Parenthood medical centers. The first class of residents began in July 2009. Economy: down, patients: up In the past 18 months, Planned Parenthood medical centers saw a startling increase in the number of individuals seeking care after losing their jobs and/or health insurance a 23% increase over last year, for a total of more than 116,000 medical visits. Expanded services Building on our core reproductive health services, our nine medical centers added hours and medical services to better meet the needs of the thousands of patients seeking our care. Planned Parenthood now offers fertility services, diagnosis and treatment for women at risk of cervical cancer, new female sterilization options, nutritional counseling, expanded prenatal services, and more. 65,577 patients visited a Planned parenthood medical center 57,609 community participants attended A health education training or outreach event 14,739 Families RECEIVED WIC (Women, Infants and Children) nutritional services Tech support In the face of significant budget cuts and continued resistance by many local school districts, Planned Parenthood has continued to invest in technologies that allow us to reach young people with the comprehensive reproductive health information that they need. Our hotline program still the only one in the nation featuring live online chat and texting grew by 74% this year, with a staggering 314% increase in online inquiries alone. I will always be grateful to Planned Parenthood for giving me access to contraception and yearly exams, services, and items that I otherwise would not have been able to afford. - Bethany, 28, Ontario 5 6

I went to Planned Parenthood and wound up taking a pregnancy test. Much to my shock I was pregnant. The people at the clinic were very supportive and gave me different options with no pressure in any direction. Being Catholic, the decision was made for adoption. Planned Parenthood helped me with social services, schools, and what to do after the birth. - Anonymous, 48, Huntington Beach To view the full Program Report, please visit www.pposbc.org/annualreport09. 8
