February DEMONSTRATION Cecy Turner Our February demonstrator was One of Our Own, Cecy Turner, whose oils and watercolors have been gracing our exhibits for years. Help Wanted RCAS uses computer software in their support of the membership, YPS, 50+, and regional shows as well as the yearbook. We need to expand the number of people supporting this effort. Applicants need to have Microsoft Office Professional software on their computers. Actual software used is Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher (optional), Power Point, and Access, but level of expertise is normally limited to slightly above entry level. (For example, Access use involves filling in forms and requesting reports but not form, table, query, or report modification. Power Point involves creating very simple slide shows of the regional show entries.) 4 She mesmerized us with her wet-into-wet approach and the non-stop revelation of her thought process as she guided us through the evolution of her rendition of a canal in Venice from a picture she had taken from a gondola. She charmed us with her finely-honed expertise. Her words of advice: Think before painting. Plan ahead. Full training, application software, extensive documentation, and support will be provided at no cost. This unpaid job could provide an artist s spouse with a wonderful way to be an active part of RCAS without having to be a graphic artist. If interested, please call (972 231-5029) or email (john_cheney@sbcglobal.net) John Cheney for further details

PAINTING OF THE MONTH WINNERS And the Winners Are... 1. Cynnia Barretto for "My Peony"-Oil 2. Linda Ferguson for "The Elder"-Charcoal/Conte 3. Pete Quaid for "Cowboy Still Life"-Oil Update on RCAS Art Fair at Barnes & Noble The date and time is confirmed May 12th, from 10am to 4pm at the Barnes & Noble at 801 W. 15th Street, Suite E, Plano, TX 75075. That s just north of the Collin Creek Mall. With your participation the Art Fair will benefit our organization and the Richardson Public Library. All you have to do is purchase books in any Barnes & Noble store or online and a portion of the sales will come back to us. The more purchases made using our voucher number (10697035), the more money we make. Also, the Richardson Public Library gave us a list of art-related books they d like, and Barnes & Noble will have them available on the 12th. You d be purchasing the book to donate to the library and we d get credit for it along with the rest of the sales. We ll have a display with some of our artwork and we re planning things that will interest the shoppers. So far we ve planned to have a sketch artist in the afternoon, and information about Art Trading Cards. We can bring in materials for the shoppers to try, like pastels or clay for sculpting. 5 We re going to be doing as much advertising as possible, and distributing the voucher number in all types of media outlets. Bring the voucher number into the store on May 12th, or order online anytime between May 12th to May 17th (www.bn.com/bookfairs) using the voucher number. Your Barnes & Noble membership discount is good on purchases using our voucher. Help us spread the word and make the Art Fair a huge success the more articles purchased with our voucher number, the more money we receive. Send information about the Art Fair to your friends on Facebook, your Outlook contact list, coworkers, and family. And if you d like to help us out on the 12th, let us know, we ll be glad to have you participate. If you d like more information or to help us, contact Pat Bigelow (pbigelow@sbcglobal.net). If you signed up at the February meeting but haven t heard from anyone, we apologize; but contact Pat and your name won t be lost again. Look for more information as the date gets closer.
