Salutations! Intermountain Healthcare s Institute for Healthcare Delivery Research is pleased to host our 12th Annual ATP Alumni Conference on February 15-17, 2017 at the Newpark Resort in Park City, Utah. This year s theme is QI Comes of Age: Health Reform Accelerates. Healthcare payment reform and its relation to quality is beginning to approach maturity as represented by the recent MACRA rules. During this ATP Alumni conference, we will explore the content of MACRA and its relationship to the fundamental principles of continuous quality improvement and process management. We will also link these ideas to other important and rapid developments in healthcare including the ongoing evolution and role of electronic health records. Under the direction of Dr. Brent James, and including other acclaimed national experts in policy and process management, the conference promises to be an enjoyable learning experience. We hope you will join us and invite you to bring your CIO, fellow alumni, or any of your colleagues from your organization to attend the conference. Group learning will facilitate organizational change as people throughout the organization gain a greater understanding and knowledge of quality. We hope to see you in beautiful Park City, Utah. Sign up today for the 12th Annual ATP Alumni Conference, and join your fellow alumni and their colleagues in a profound and uplifting experience to acquire new knowledge, exchange encouragement and map plans for further progress in quality improvement. Faculty! Brent C. James, MD, MStat, is the Chief Quality Officer and Executive Director of Intermountain Health Care s Institute for Health Care Delivery. He is a national leader in applying quality management principles to reduce costs by improving health care delivery. Dr. James is at the forefront of Intermountain Healthcare s quality effort, adding a strong emphasis on patient care, clinical medicine, and the scientific method to Intermountain Healthcare s management strategy. He has been instrumental in showing that quality improvement is a natural extension of clinical research and medicine s long-standing commitment to patient care. Dr. James received his M.D. Degree (1978) from the University of Utah School Of Medicine, followed by residency training in General Surgery. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, and holds a Visiting Lectureship in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. His undergraduate degrees in Computer Science (1974) and Medical Biology (1975) supplement a Master of Statistics degree (1983), all from the University of Utah, with subsequent fellowship training in Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health (1983). Mike Leavitt is the founder and chairman of Leavitt Partners where he helps clients navigate the future as they transition to new and better models of care. In 1993, Mike was elected governor of Utah. He served three terms (1993-2003). In 2003, he joined the Cabinet of President George W. Bush, serving in two positions: first as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (2003-2005) and then as secretary of Health and Human Services (2005-2009). At HHS, he administered a $750 billion budget nearly 25 percent of the entire federal budget and 67,000 employees. Mike s strategic ability can be seen in his redesign of the nation s system of quality and safety standards for imported goods. In the spring of 2006, President Bush assigned him to lead a government-wide response. Within months, he commended a major strategic shift in U.S. policy on import regulation and trade. While at EPA he oversaw the implementation of the most protective ground-level ozone standards in our nation s history and signed the Clean Diesel Rule, a landmark rule to cleanup nonroad diesel fuel. His service at HHS included the implementation of the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Program and the planning and preparation for a pandemic flu. Collaborator is a word that comes up repeatedly when one examines Leavitt s background. His skill led colleague governors to elect him as chairman of the National Governors Association, the Republican Governors Association and Western Governors Association. He is a seasoned diplomat, leading U.S. delegations to more than 50 countries, conducting negotiations on matters related to health, the environment and trade. 2017 ATP Alumni Conference February 15-17, 2017, Newpark Resort, Park City, Utah
