DESCRIPTION Meso 50W is a programmable LED Driver that combines smart technology and high flexibility features at a competitive cost. A single channel, constant current LED ballast, Meso 50W is designed for directly powering up LEDs in indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures. Designed in a compact package to better fit the fixture mechanical aspects. Easy to use in a junction box application with the optional US mounting KIT or as independent unit with the optional Remote gear KIT. The Meso 50W Series includes twelve different models that cover applications from 20V to 100V, with currents from 350mA to 1400mA. The intelligent core of the driver permits to program the output current in 10mA steps inside the range of each model, which makes the Meso 50W extremely flexible and suitable for different kind of applications. By converting energy at typical efficiencies up to 90%, the Meso 50W Series makes easier the thermal management in space constrained systems, offering high reliability in environmentally friend solutions. With the optional Ozone Programming Tool and the free Ozone ToolSet Software users can reprogram the output current of the driver and set all the programmable features also via RFID Antenna. EFFICIENCY AND PFC PERFORMANCE Meso 50W LED Drivers show good efficiency, power factor and THD performances even when operating at low loads. Following are the characteristic plots for the three Meso 50W LED driver base models (DALI versions). The test are performed connecting the Meso 50W driver, programmed at the maximum operative current, to an LED load at maximum output power; the output current is then dimmed down with a standard 1-10V dimmer to obtain lower output power conditions. This is showing the typical behaviour of the driver. RM50LD-1400A-AD RM50LD-1050A-AD www.efore.com Page 4 KPD_Meso 50W_Rev01, June 2016

THD AND POWER FACTOR PERFORMANCE VS OUTPUT VOLTAGE The following plots are showing the THD and power factor performance of the Meso 50W at different operating output voltages. Below measurements has been taken after 10 minutes of operation and by changing the output load using an electronic load. This is showing the typical behaviour of the driver. The PF limit curve set the 0.9 limit, while the THD limit curve set the 20% limit. RM50LD-1050A-AD RM50LD-700A-AD www.efore.com Page 6 KPD_Meso 50W_Rev01, June 2016

INRUSH CURRENT DATA Due to its very limited Inrush Current peak at power on, Meso 50W LED driver makes easier the selection of overcurrent protection devices such as circuit breakers. Referring to the different kinds of Circuit Breakers available on the market, the maximum number of connectable Meso 50W drivers is reported in the following table for each nominal input voltage. Inrush Current Data # drivers for each Circuit Breaker Vin Nominal I peak (A) Half Value Time (µs) Type B 10A Type B 16A Type C 10A Type C 16A Type D 10A Type D 16A 120V AC 2,5 100 342 547 570 912 1140 1824 230V AC 4,0 100 213 342 356 570 712 1140 277V AC 5,3 100 161 258 268 430 537 860 STAND-BY POWER CONSUMPTION Meso 50W LED driver offers a low stand-by power consumption when the LEDs are switched off using the 0-10V dimmer option or the push dimmer option. When a DALI driver is used, the LEDs can be switched off from the DALI port (using the DALI off command). The Analog driver, programmed with 0-10V option, can switch off the LEDs when the dimmer voltage is below 0,8V. The typical stand-by power consumption is reported in the following table for each nominal input voltage. DIMMING OPERATION Meso 50W LED driver is able to operate under the minimum value of the output voltage range in order to allow dimming functions through an Analog signal (0-10V, 1-10V or Push) or a DALI/PWM signal. The dimming profile is different for each Meso 50W model and it is reported in the following plots, where the yellow area represents all the possible programmable working points, the green area is reached only under dimming conditions. The orange area below the minimum voltage is an operative out of specification area and consequently, can be reached only under dimming operations and it is not recommended for the nominal operation. The unit may not turn-on in under-voltage conditions (in the orange area below the minimum voltage specified for each model). The final application should be designed in order to operate within the nominal operating ranges specified in the datasheet. www.efore.com Page 9 KPD_Meso 50W_Rev01, June 2016
OUTPUT RIPPLE CHARACTERISTICS The ripple current value is usually higher when operating at full power towards the upper limit of the output voltage range, while it decreases significantly (under 10% of the set current) for working voltages located near the bottom value of the range. Following are reported the ripple current measurements and plots for each Meso 50W model (worst case input voltage: 230Vac) with a Philips K2 LED load. NOTE: Different LEDs may exhibit higher ripple currents than shown in the following tables RM50LD-1400A-xx Input Voltage (V AC ) Load Voltage (V) Load Current (marms) Ripple Current (ma Pk-pk) Ripple Current Pk-pk/RMS (%) 230 35 1400 279 19.9 (1) 230 30 1400 319 22.7 230 20 1400 399 28.5 230 40 700 86 12.2 (2) 230 30 700 103 14.7 230 20 700 130 18.6 (1) (2) RM50LD-1050A-xx Input Voltage (V AC ) Load Voltage (V) Load Current (marms) Ripple Current (ma Pk-pk) Ripple Current Pk-pk/RMS (%) 230 48 1050 166 15.8 (1) 230 36 1050 199 18.9 230 28 1050 230 21.9 230 56 500 50 10.0 (2) 230 40 500 56 11.2 230 28 500 80 16.0 (1) (2) www.efore.com Page 10 KPD_Meso 50W_Rev01, June 2016

TEMPERATURE DERATINGS & OPERATION AT LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURES The driver is provided by an internal over-temperature protection. This feature allows the driver to work with power derating with an ambient temperature up to 70 C (the current will be limited to get less power in the Ambient temperature range 55-70 C). This behaviour is different from the AC models (RM50LD-XXXX-AX) and the AC&DC models (RM50LD-XXXX-DX). The curve below is showing the power derating of the AC models (RM50LD-XXXX-AX) in the Ambient temperature range 55-70 C. For the AC&DC models (RM50LD-XXXX-DX) there is a different behaviour. The maximum operating temperature decrease, in the input voltage range 350 400Vdc, as shown in the curve below: Consequently, the temperature derating, for input voltage in the range 350-400Vdc, is shown below. For all models, operation at ambient temperatures lower than -10 C the drivers will turn-on at the 70% of the set current and then will fade to the nominal current after 1 minute working period. www.efore.com Page 12 KPD_Meso 50W_Rev01, June 2016
LIFETIME VERSUS TOP CASE TEMPERATURE Meso 50W has been designed to achieve more than 5 years (43800Hr) of Life Time when operating at 75-80 C TC case, at full load, nominal line voltages. The maximum operating ambient temperature of the driver family is 55 C. The following graphs are representative of the lifetime expectation for the Meso 50W Led Driver Series. The curves have been evaluated in standard operative conditions, with no added kit. MTBF AND RELIABILITY The MTBF calculation is based on the model Telcordia Issue 2. The test is performed with a duty-cycle of 80% and an operating Ambient temperature of 40 C. The Relatability curves showed, reflect the following criteria: R(t) 40 C =e -t/mtbf, while the Failure Rate can be easily calculated with the following formula: F(t)=1-R(t).
