Sew together (1) template #1 N piece and (1) template #1 A piece as shown, so it measures 3 x 5. Sew (1) 1-1/4 x 5 A piece to the left side and (1) 3 x 3-3/4 A piece to the top to complete a large leaf unit. Unit should measure 3-3/4 x 7-1/2. 2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (2) 2-1/2 A squares. Position a marked square on (1) 6-1/2 x 7-1/2 E piece as shown. Sew on the drawn line, trim 1/4 past line, and press open. Repeat on the opposite bottom corner to make a tulip base. 6. Sew the small leaf unit to the left side of (1) 1 x 7-1/2 M strip. Sew the large leaf unit to the right side. Sew the tulip bloom to the top. 3. Sew the tulip tips to the tulip base to complete a tulip bloom. 7. Sew 1-1/2 x 14-1/2 A strips to the sides of the tulip unit. Sew (1) 1-1/2 x 9-1/2 A strip to the top to complete a tulip block. Square block to measure 9-1/2 x 15-1/2. 4. Sew together (1) template #2 M piece and (1) template #2 A piece as shown, so it measures 2 x 3. Sew (1) 1-1/2 x 3 A piece to the left side of the unit from step 4. Sew (1) 1-1/4 x 3 A piece to the right side. Sew (1) 2-1/2 x 3-3/4 A piece to the top and (1) 3 x 3-3/4 A piece to the bottom to complete a small leaf unit. Unit should measure 3-3/4 x 7-1/2. In the same way, make a total of (10) tulip blocks with the leaves reversed for rows 2 and 4. Make (2) tulip blocks each using Fabrics F, O, and Q. Make (1) tulip block each using Fabrics D, E, G, and P. 4. To make vertical sashing units, sew 1-1/2 x 15-1/2 A strips to opposite long sides of (1) 1-1/2 x 15-1/2 B strip. Make a total of (24) vertical sashing units. In the same way, sew 1-1/2 x 9-1/2 A strips to opposite long sides of (1) 1-1/2 x 9-1/2 B strip. Make a total of (25) horizontal sashing units. Making the Sashing Units 1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of (1) 2 A square. Lay the marked square right sides together on a 2 H square. Sew 1/4 on either side of the drawn line. Cut on the drawn line and press units open. Trim each HST unit to measure 1-1/2 square. Make a total of (4) HST units. 2. Lay out (4) HST units, (4) 1-1/2 A squares, and (1) 1-1/2 H square into (3) rows of (3) units each. Sew into rows and join the rows to complete a shoofly cornerstone units, measuring 3-1/2 square. 3.
