Introduction. Turnstyle Designs was formed in 1992 and has been specializing in making interior hardware fittings for the marine trade since 1998. All our products are made in the UK by a team of highly skilled craftsmen and engineers working in a broad choice of materials, from precision engineered brasswork to hand stitched leather. This supplement brochure works in conjunction with all our other products shown on our website and in our current 11th Edition brochure and is focused on more recent additions to the range that are directed more towards marine applications. leather custom work As well as our extensive range of catalogue products we can also design and produce to customers' specifications. Custom leather requests come in a number of forms, from a simple change of stitch, by colour or stitch type, to a different sized door pull or cabinet pull right up to a completely custom part made either with or without brass elements. Here are a few key facts to bear in mind when considering commissioning us to make custom leather work. Stitching For hand stitched parts we can offer a number of stitching details from the type of stitch work, the number or stitches per inch to the colour of the thread. Shown here are some of the hand stitched options available. 4 to the inch parallel stitching single cross stitching Types of leather We manufacture all our catalogue handles out of the very finest Italian vegetable tanned bridle or saddle leather. This has a number of advantages over Chromium tanned leather. As well as being better for the environment and using only natural materials to tan, the leather retains its natural oils, it remains in a more natural state and is therefore much tougher than Chromium tanned leathers, it also repairs much easier, simply by boning (rubbing a boning tool, or even the back of a spoon, the oils re surface and scratches and dents are removed. We can also finish the edges of our handles so they are wet rubbed into a clean edge, again this cannot be done with Chromium tanned leather or faux leathers. Likewise with Veg tanned leather we can wet mould the leather to forms, this again is not possible with Chromium leathers. However, due to the limitations on colour ranges in the veg tanned leather we are able to use customers leather or source leathers for our clients that are Chromium tanned and use them where the edges are not exposed in the Recess Leather range of products. Colour of thread Just by changing the colour of the thread you can dramatically change the look of a design. Metal and Amalfine custom work Custom metal work Turnstyle Designs works primarily with brass. Brass is a beautiful metal to work with in as much as it machines and casts very well and once polished produces a very good base to apply a myriad of electro plated and hand applied finishes, making it one of the most versatile metals to work with. It is also non- ferrous and therefore, like bronze will not rust. Machined work We have a dedicated design engineer team working with CAD packages, who are happy to discuss your requirements and advise the most effective both in design and cost way to produce your idea. Wherever possible when custom work is required we will see if we can work with or adapt an existing stocked component, thus keeping costs down for the client. Failing that we will analyse the design and create a completely custom part to your requirement. We can offer 3D prototyping during the process to assist with final approval. Custom Amalfine Amalfine is Turnstyle's family of hand cast composite materials, that have been developed and improved since the company started in 1992. Amalfine is the perfect medium for customization, it is incredibly versatile, the moulds are inexpensive to produce thus making it ideal for low volume custom casting, depending on what medium is added to the blend, the range of finishes is limited only by your imagination, from wood and metal to something completely unique. The silicone rubber moulds pick up the finest detail from the master and reproduce it perfectly. Door levers and pulls are cast around steel cores for added strength. We work with both automatic CNC machines and hand set lathes and mills, the CNC machines are more suitable for larger runs of over 100 pcs, due to the cost of setting up the machine. Investment (lost wax) and sand casting process are also available for designs that are not suitable for machining. Custom Metal finishing As well as the custom metal finishes shown here we are usually able to match the clients sample, from a precious metal finish to PVD. Turnstyle also now produces hand finished patinas. Recess Leather - Stitch In - R2645 Recess Leather - Stitch Out - R2598 32mm Grip Diameter (25mm also available) Fixing Configurations: Bolt through: Rail is fixed by means of M10 x 50mm long machine bolts screwed through and into the back of the rail handle. Standard fixings suitable for maximum 45mm wall/surface thickness. Face fix (timber mount only): Rail is fixed by means of self tapping inserts positioned in the face of the door. Face fix spindles are then screwed into the inserts. Rail is mounted onto the plain ends and fixed in place by 2 x tightening grub screws. Standard fixings are suitable for a minimum door thickness of 30mm. Marine Locks - Bathroom (Privacy) The mortice bathroom lock provides privacy as opposed to security. The deadbolt is thrown by a thumb turn from the inside and can be released using the emergency release (coin slot) on the exterior side.
