On 11 October 2012 Brigl & Bergmeister commissioned Austrian company Andritz to build a film press for the PM5 at Papirnica Vevče in Vevče (near Ljubljana). Brigl & Bergmeister one of the world s leading producers of special papers for labels and flexible packaging will thus increase annual capacity at the Vevče site by 20,000 tonnes, to 110,000 tonnes p.a. Moreover, by increasing and improving the initial coat in the paper machine, it will be possible to enhance product quality even further and offer new, innovative solutions for the packaging industry. This is Brigl & Bergmeister s second major investment since it was acquired by paper trading group Roxcel last year. The first major investment was its acquisition of the ENAGES thermal energy recovery plant, which supplies power to Brigl & Bergmeister s site in Niklasdorf, Austria. Sustainability Austropapier»Do you already know...?«the paper industry is by far the biggest producer and user of bioenergy. This is a considerable contribution to climate protection.

B&B brandnews 11 2012 Golden Label Award 2012 Golden Label Award 2012 Entries for the 8th Golden Label Award come from more than 20 countries. Despite the expected large number of finalists from German-speaking countries, entries from Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Romania and even from India have made it through to the final. This makes the competition tougher and an even more international event. Labels keep getting better at communication As far as label quality is concerned, technical parameters such as smoothness, gloss and whiteness have long ceased to be the only things that count. The stories told by labels become tangible by what they show and how they feel. The label material becomes part of the message and strengthens or emphasises the brand and the design. Winegrowing areas are brought to life, the landscape where the product is grown can be perceived, as can be the smell of the region, a composition of fish, vegetables or fruit. A salt-breeze with a sailing ship displayed, a variety of gingerbread with strong holiday beers, or Asian vitality combined with wonderfully hoppy lager beers. Label designers manage to trigger these expectations within an area of just a few square centimetres, and technical implementation is so impressive because there is no weak spot that might distract the beholder s attention from the labels message. short info In total 297 Labels have been submitted for the Golden Label Award. Out of them the jury nominated 20 labels in the categories beer and beer mixtures, water and softdrinks; wine, spirits and others; technical performance as well as best marketing idea. The winners come from 8 different nations: n Austria n Germany n The Netherlands n Portugal n Spain n France n India n Romania (Public Prize) 3

Evidence of our above-average performance has been provided by specific studies. The Association of Styrian Forest Owners (Steirischer Waldverband), which is accountable for sustainable forests in the region, reported in great detail on the stringent and environmentally reasonable requirements applicable to Austrian forests. In a forest area like this, we and our seminar attendants were allowed, instructed by an expert, to plant the first new trees. Even the rain could not stop them. The trees planted 6

Incidentally, our seminar attendants have expressed the wish to come back and visit their trees, a request we will be pleased to accommodate. Clemens Aigner, Braumeister Manuel Düregger, Ing. Alexander Schneller-Scharau, Fritz Kaufmann»Learning beyond professional borders«that is the idea behind the Tandem Academy launched by B&B and organised for the first time in July 2012. B&B + printers + branded companies = a perfect team Today s customers want to be swept away. For this to happen it is necessary that all members of the supply chain, from the manufacturer of raw materials through to the finished product, contribute their respective know-how in the best possible way. At the recently established Tandem Academy, organised in collaboration with Villacher Brewery, the Marzek Printing House and the label-paper manufacturer Brigl & Bergmeister, participants discussed what perfect collaboration should be like, and how costs and quality can be optimised through an improved understanding beyond the limits of one s own processes. The participants feedback on this event was highly positive. A similar event with other customers is already being planned.
