You are the main character. The protagonist. The star at the center of your own unfolding story. You're surrounded by your supporting cast: friends and family hanging in your immediate orbit. Scattered a little further out, a network of acquaintances who drift in and out of contact over the years. But there in the background, faint and out of focus, are the extras. The random passerby. Each living a life as vivid and complex as your own. They carry on invisibly around you, bearing the accumulated weight of their own ambitions, friends, routines, mistakes, worries, triumphs and inherited craziness. When your life moves on to the next scene, theirs flickers in place, wrapped in a cloud of backstory and inside jokes and characters strung together with countless other stories that you'll never be able to see. That you'll never know exists. In which you might appear only once. As an extra sipping coffee in the background. As a blur of traffic passing on the highway. As a lighted window at dusk. Technology Is a Tool, Not a Solution Technology gives us power, but it does not and cannot tell us how to use that power. Technology is a tool, not a solution, a very well said proverb by Mr. Bill Gates, for waking up us to be not fully dependent on the technology but to use it in a perfect and a fruitful way. Human technology is outstanding, mind boggling almost beyond comprehension and we have advanced so quickly in such a short span of time that most of us are unaware of our true capabilities. Students today are certainly attracted by technology and why not? They have been around it all of their lives, But technology has to be simple, unobtrusive and easy-to-use not a shiny distraction that makes you off track. Even glass, something we are surrounded by every day, is no longer simply a translucent barrier between us and the natural elements but a medium of communication capable of storing data and displaying information or media at our whim. This is the only tip of iceberg when it comes to our advancing technology and they are by no means of pie in the sky dreams of future, these technologies are a reality now. Yet as advanced as we become, it is not solely technology that will improve our lives or condemn us to a continued existence as little more than slaves, for technology is neither good nor bad and it is not at all an encompassing solution to our human problems, any The propensity towards pointing fingers at our technological advancements is a scapegoat for the individual that does not want to look further into our social operation to identify where things may be going wrong or indeed right on a fundamental level. The new and inexpensive technologies which are now available pretty much everywhere are certainly enablers of the digital revolution, as is the rise of mobility and constant connectivity, and these tools make the process improvements and new solutions feasible and cost-effective, but it remains true that the real drivers of disruptive change are always the same: entrepreneurs, who probably didn t know what couldn t be done, and who look at things that everyone else has seen for years, but think something new and different and then go on to build something that changes the whole ball game. At last I would end up the topic by saying that, Technology just tells us the path and the way the problem could be solved but it should not whole-ly used to solve a problem but could be used to understand it, it should be treated like a tool not a destination goal of achievement. So, technology is just a tool not a complete solution. Madhvendra Singh Lecturer Department of management studies Enthuz 09 9
