Electricity Thank you for considering Western Power Distribution for your electricity connections. We have put together these notes to help you fill out your and to ensure we receive all the correct information for your application to be processed easily. Section A Your details Please complete this section with your contact details as well as the site where the electricity connection is to take place. Please advise us of the builder/developer s details if you are applying on their behalf. Section B Number and type of connections required Please complete this section stating your connection requirements and if the application is for a Budget Estimate or firm Connection Offer. A Budget Estimate will be non-binding and for indicative costs only. A Connection Offer will set out detailed terms and conditions and once accepted will be binding on both parties. Section C Load requirements If you are connecting any motors or welders, please let us know about them. Please tell us the following: Motors Type, 1 or 3 phase, Rating kw/hp, DOL/Star Delta, Starting current, Starts per hour. Welders Input voltage, Rating, Phases, Welds per minute. The manufacturer or equipment installer should be able to help you with this. Off-peak means the heating that can only operate during a pre-arranged time (usually 7 hours) in the range of hours 23:00 07:00 and is usually controlled by the Meter Operator s time-switch. Section D - Generation Please tell us if there will be any on-site generation. Please note that if you require a Connection Offer we will require further technical information. Information and forms to download are available on our website at http://www.westernpower.co.uk/generationconnections.asp Section E Protective multiple earthing (PME) To find out if we can provide you with a PME, please advise us if the site consists of metal framed buildings. Section F Site conditions It is a requirement of the Compliance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 that a proper assessment is made of the risks on site. Please complete this section to help us process your application efficiently, in a way appropriate to the environmental and practical considerations on and around the site. Section G Additional information Please provide any additional information that may be relevant to your application. Section H Signature Please ensure you sign and date this form on page 4, and enclose one copy of the Location and Site Layout Plan. Guidance is given on pages 5-6. However, some methods of building, in particular multioccupancy steel framed buildings, do not allow this means of earthing. In such cases alternative earthing solutions can be provided by your electrical contractor. Is your building steel framed and subdivided into units? Section G Additional information Boundary Plan request Please provide a plan clearly showing the ownership and boundaries of your site. Where appropriate, we will design a cable route that is within the boundary of your land, avoiding the need for third party agreement. This can reduce legal costs and lead times required to complete the work. This information may be available from: The Land Registry your planning application your property deeds hand drawings on an existing plan. Note: This is the preferred option, but if a Boundary plan is not available, we ll accept the boundary being marked on the Location Plan instead. Please make sure the detail is accurate, so we can avoid delays later. Section H Signature Signature of applicant Date Print name Position in company Under section 16(1) of the 1989 Electricity Act, we are obliged to provide a Connection Offer to any person entitled to apply for a new, increased or reduced connection to our Distribution System. Applications for a connection to our Distribution System can either be made by the owner or occupier of the premises, or by an approved contractor, supplier or agent, acting with the consent of the owner or occupier. Our response time to any person seeking a new, increased or reduced capacity connection will be in accordance with our Licence, and the Electricity (Connection Standards of Performance) Regulations 2010 or, where we are providing only non-contestable services, Licence Condition 15. It will be no later than 3 months after the application date, except in cases where a longer period has been agreed with the applicant. Procedure for the submission of site plans for a new connection enquiry Introduction In order to provide a connection offer, we require one copy of the Location Plan and one copy of the Site Layout Plan, together with your. The Location Plan shows where to find the proposed site for the new connection. The Site Layout Plan provides further details on how the site is laid out and includes dimensions of the new connection. Location Plan 1 All applications should have one Location Plan enclosed. You must highlight the site location on the plan. 2 Location Plans can be obtained by using A-Z street maps or via the internet, which is now available at most public libraries. Procedure for the submission of the site plans for a new connection enquiry Site Layout Plan 1 In the absence of an architect s drawing, all applications need to have two Site Layout Plans enclosed. You must draw all proposed buildings and accesses onto the site plan showing accurate measurements. 2 The full site address and proposed meter position should be marked onto the plan with an X (see across for guidelines on meter positions). 3 The size of the new building should be shown on the plan as well as its position onsite in relation to existing features of the site plan using measurements. 4 Measurements should be taken and drawn on the plan to show the position and size of the new building to the nearest 0.1m. 5 Measurements should be taken from permanent features on-site eg existing buildings, boundaries, footpaths and kerb lines. Measurements should be legible and easy to read. 6 Any existing buildings to be demolished should also be marked on the plan. 7 Please include the site boundary. 8 Please mark any access roads and temporary accesses to the site. Please do not take measurements from doorways, gate posts, bay windows, temporary posts and garden gateways or street furniture eg lamps, signs and bollards. 3 Show the size and position of the new building 4 Measurements taken should be to the nearest 0.1m NEW HOUSE X Meter position New and re-serviced domestic housing services and commercial supplies (up to 100 Amps) should be installed in outdoor meter boxes. These should be mounted onto an external wall on the front or side elevation of the property in front of any fence or gates to allow unrestricted public access. They should be fitted at a minimum height of 400mm and a maximum height of 1,000mm from ground level to the bottom of the box. Properties converted into flats must have either external meter boxes where practcable or internal at a common area adjacent to the front door. The following meter positions are not permitted: at the rear of the property at the side of the property behind fences or gates facing or opening directly onto public footpaths or into alleyways or entries within a coal dustbin, refuse store, garage or porch under windows, unless minimum installation height can be achieved.
