SUNDAY [S-01] TEA FOR TWO 21 x35 ½-Day Class Kit Required. A needle case created with hand dyed wool and textural threads. Spend the afternoon with Sue stitching a small memento of your stay at Grand Hotel. Learn some basic embroidery stitches by embellishing a fun teacup needle case using wonderful fibers and embroidery stitches. Required kit for this class is $35 and is to be purchased from the teacher. Sunday, 1pm-4pm $50 [S-02] PRACTICAL COLOR FOR QUILTERS ½-Day Class You love color, but have trouble deciding which colors to use in your quilt? This is a fun, no-sew day filled with surprises and lots of discussion. You will play with color and value as you glue fabric to paper to make pieced blocks. Everyone puts their blocks together and you all get to see what works, what doesn t, and most importantly, how to make color work for you. Sunday, 1pm-4pm $50 [S-03] DELILAH Overall Size: 12 x 16 1½-Day Class An interesting combination of straight lines and curves coming together in perfect cohesion. Delilah stays true to Jen s scrappy style and is the perfect project to play with and explore fabric selections. In this workshop Jen will cover use of acrylic templates for hand piecing. There will be discussion about hand quilting and different finishes for your quilt. Sunday, 1pm-4pm & Monday, 9am-4pm $115 MONDAY [M-01] TILE TANGO Perfect your hand appliqué skills as you work on a quilt block inspired by Santa Fe tile designs. In this needle turn class Becky will be concentrating on helping you perfect your outer points and both inner and outer curves. Join her for a day of learning to the Appliqué the Piece O Cake Way. Monday, 9am-4pm $80 www.grandhotel.com/needleart MONDAY CONTINUED [M-02] COLOR & COMPOSITION Class Level: Adventurous Beginner to Advanced. Color and Composition are the most powerful tools in design. Weeks will explore elements of color and prints including hue, value, saturation and figure ground. You will also learn principles of composition through a series of explorations. Students will then develop one or more original drawings on concepts learned in class. This is the first of three building block classes with Weeks; continue the process with her other class offerings for this event. Monday, 9am-4pm $80 [M-03] CUPPA 9 Block Class Level: Intermediate Using Sue s book Cuppa you will create your choice of a 9 block. Starting with a fun textural background to display your latte, cappuccino and Americano coffee cups. These will be cut from hand dyed wools and cotton fabrics. You will then give each cup personality with embellishments. Continue on to make the complete quilt or incorporate your single block into a pillow or bag. Monday & Tuesday, 9am-4pm $150 [M-04] POWER CUTTING Kit Required. Power Cutting is an efficient approach to rotary cutting and improving the precision of quilt making. This workshop starts with the basics and goes well beyond. Much of Power Cutting is embedded within the construction of quilts, therefore, you will be constructing a quilt, not just cutting. Required kit for this class is $90 and is to be purchased from the teacher. Monday & Tuesday, 9am-4pm $150 TUESDAY [TU-01] BRIGHTS + NEUTRALS Class Level: Adventurous Beginner to Advanced. Love bright fabrics but aren t sure how to combine them with anything but white? Bring your bright and bold prints to life by pairing them with a rich neutral that you never imagined would work. Learn to use Desert solids with brights to produce a bold and sophisticated palette. The second of Week s building block classes designed especially for our event.
TUESDAY CONTINUED [TU-02] THE CIRCLE GAME Jen is known for her love of curved piecing and The Circle Game captures that beautifully! The quilt is comprised of twelve circles, each unique and ranging in technical difficulty. Jen s work is done by hand. She will demonstrate and discuss techniques that are suitable for hand sewing and machine. She will also do a hand quilting demonstration. [TU-03] BACKYARD BIRDS Who can resist a perky bird?? You will spend two wonderful days perfecting your needleturn hand applique skills in this class that focuses on outer points, inner and outer curves, small shapes, off-the-block stitching, and more. Two days really are better than one! WEDNESDAY [W-01] MACKINAC ISLAND BIKE PATH Class Level: Confident Beginner A quilt Deb has adapted especially for the Needle Art Seminar. The circles created by the setting in this quilt are reminiscent of the winding bike paths on Mackinac Island. In addition to learning the techniques needed for this quilt, you will see other examples of projects that use similar settings; which will give you ideas and freedom when working on future quilts. Wednesday, 9am-4pm $80 [W-02] FLOWER BLOCKS Class Level: Confident Intermediate to Advanced 3-Day Class. Join Sue for three wonderful days, designing and hand stitching a set of nine Flower Blocks. Presented as a creative design class; create your own unique set of flower block designs as Sue guides you through her process. Embellish your blocks using hand dyed wool, silk velvet and fun cotton fabrics while experimenting with a variety of specialty threads, embroidery stitches, layering and stitch combinations. Required background kit for this class is $40 and is to be purchased from the teacher. Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 9am-4pm $225 THURSDAY [TH-01] EVERYDAY BEST Become a foundation paper piecing pro as you learn how to make this happy block. This class focuses on using vellum foundation papers, accurate sewing, and curved seams. Once finished, you can use your block in the center of a wall quilt or make more blocks for a larger quilt. Thursday, 9am-4pm $80 [TH-02] IMPROV PIECING The third and final building block class with Weeks is focused on Improvisational Piecing. You will explore different techniques and select one to develop your project. She will guide you through a strategy that will have you making design decisions as you go. [TH-03] GREEN TEA & SWEET BEANS The quilt that started it all! Green Tea & Sweet Beans was inspired by her many trips to Japan sourcing fabric. This sampler style quilt is a playful mix of piecing and appliqué, giving it a loveable vintage feel. Jen will explore a variety of techniques including hand and machine piecing, hand appliqué, fussy cutting, and more. [TH-04] A GRAND HOTEL MYSTERY A very special treat! Debbie has designed, published and taught more than 250 different mystery quilts over the last 25 years. She has now designed one especially for us! FRIDAY [F-01] WHIMSICAL QUILT GARDEN IN WOOL Time will fly by as you stitch this cute, chirping bird. This wool applique class focuses on fusing vs. gluing, learning the blanket stitch, and how thread choices can change the look of your wool appliqué piece.
