The Guild web-site is progressing. Each chapter must have a web-site master by July 1 st. Wanda has volunteered to accept this responsibility. She will enter all news from our chapter onto the web-site. The Guild has released a new survey form to evaluate Showcase and Market Place. We hope everyone will take a few minutes to evaluate the shows by completing the survey. Showcase 2017 has a theme; it will be called Quilting Around the Square. The B s are making the charity quilt for this Showcase. They are moving along very quickly, and will have it completed for display at Market Place in 2016. Our chapter is to submit three choices for charities to receive the monies from the charity quilt and silent auction. The Guild will then take the top choice from all chapters to be the recipient. We would like your suggestions ASAP so that we can vote on them at a future chapter meeting. The May Honor flight quilts have been distributed (see pictures below), and we have reserved enough quilts for the September Flight. Four of the quilts still left over will be donated for an auction at a fund raiser for the DAV Traveling Vietnam Wall which will be coming to the Villages in November. The remainder of the quilts will be sent to Tampa to a hospital where veterans with brain and spinal injuries are treated. Mulberry Chapter issued a challenge to all chapters to donate $50.00 for the DAV Traveling Vietnam Wall. The Piecemakers will submit a check at the next Guild meeting. Tuesday June 2 nd is the next daytime meeting of the Guild at Savannah Center at 9:00 am. Our room here at Paradise will also be open. Hope everyone has a great month. MEMBERSHIP PAGE MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Delores Korff Barbara Rule-Mispel Delores quilting journey began in 1976 when she found a VCR tape on quilting at her local library, produced by 8 ladies from New Hampshire that explained from beginning to end how to make a quilt. A sewer since 8 th grade, her first quilted projects were clothing items, but 15 years later she made that same quilt (Hole in the Barn Door or Monkey Wrench) for her son and his future wife. Largely self-taught, Delores heard about the Guild when she moved to The Villages, and joined Mulberry chapter in 2005 to learn more. She joined the Piecemakers in 2010. Machine piecing continues to influence her projects, but Delores is also working on mastering free-motion quilting and appliqué techniques to enhance her work. A lover of bright fabrics (her stash proves it) she says that most often her fabrics dictate her pattern choices. Currently Treasurer/Membership chair for the Piecemakers, Delores also organizes wonderful bus trips and is a Showcase 2015 Award winner. Barbara s quilting journey was inspired by a cousin, and she began by watching Alex Anderson s quilting show on TV. Her first quilt was created for her first granddaughter from pictures found in quilting books. After retiring as a special education teacher in NH, Barbara moved to The Villages in 2007. She took her first formal lessons at a quilt shop in Leesburg starting with a Sampler Quilt, followed by a couple of scrappy quilt classes. In 2009 she was invited by Ida Hoover to visit the Piecemakers and decided to join. Barbara is an active participant in our chapter. She is a past Co-President, and is presently serving as Secretary. She also takes photos of our new members, of Show & Tell, and other special events; and led a chapter class for beginning quilters. At Guild level she has been a member of the Long Range Planning Committee and By-Laws Committee, and was our Boutique liaison for Showcase 2011 and Showcase 2015. I love the learning opportunities offered by the Guild and the ladies in our chapter, as well as the help and encouragement they so willingly give. So much to learn, and too little time. Her number one goal is to create a large bed quilt for each of her grandchildren to have when they have grown up. A warm hello to our newest member Susan Davis. We hope you will enjoy your quilting journey with the Piecemakers! And a fond keep well until we meet again to those members we hear are headed home Ida Hoover (KS), Suzanne Kendrick (ME), Donna Parisi (NY), Beverly Sniffen (RI) JULY BIRTHDAYS Pat Holmes, Joyce Newton, Toni Packman, Marcia Schoonaert, and Mary Stevens Our Very Best Wishes for a Happy Day! SNOWBIRD SNIPPETS I would like to share with you a project undertaken by my home group the Tiny Stitchers. We are making and donating a raffle quilt in support of our local Cancer Support Centre. It is the only rural cancer support center in Canada. Our members each made one or more Ribbon blocks representing either their own cancer, or a cancer of someone close to them. The background fabric was donated by Northcott Fabrics, and the long-arm quilter is donating her time and the batting. I can only share with you the under construction photos at this time, but will report again in the fall on the amount of money raised from the raffle, and photos of the finished quilt. Submitted by Barbe Brolley To all other snowbirds please take the time to keep in touch every once in a while. Share your photos and quilting projects, and any/all news and views. We all like to hear from YOU! IMPORTANT REMINDER Please inform a membership committee member AS SOON AS POSSIBLE OF ANY CHANGES in your personal information Piecemakers Quilters 3
