TANF WORK The Future Is Yours...
Temporary Assistance for Needy Famiies (TANF) is an Okahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) program that gives you the hep you need to find and keep a job. TANF offers cash assistance to hep with iving expenses whie you are getting started. TANF truy means Temporary Assistance. There is a imit to the time you can receive it. Who must take part in TANF work activities? Aduts whose needs are incuded in the TANF cash assistance must take part in TANF work activities. What s in it for me? You can earn your own money, choose what you want to do, and take charge of your own ife. You may never need to come in here again but we re here to hep if you do. We may hep with chid care for your chidren under age 13 whie you are in approved TANF work activities. We may aso pay you a Participant Aowance to hep with transportation and other expenses. You may be abe to get an Earned Income Credit from the federa government if you are working or have worked recenty. This money wi not count against your TANF cash assistance. After you have a job and are earning enough that your TANF case is cosed, you may continue to receive hep with chid care, medica assistance, SNAP (formery food stamps) and chid support.
How can I get started? You wi sit down with your worker and tak about what you ike to do, the kind of job you want, and what you need to hep you get started. Your worker wi hep you work out a pan based on assessments, work experience, education and training. What kinds of TANF work activities are avaiabe? Orientation You attend a meeting to earn about TANF work activities and support services. You wi be given a series of assessments to hep you and your worker decide what type of training and empoyment is best for you. Learn to read We may send you to a cass to hep you earn to read. Improve your reading, writing, and math skis We may be abe to hep you brush up on the basic skis you earned in schoo. Learn to speak Engish If Engish is your second anguage, we may be abe to refer you to casses where you can earn to speak, write, read and understand Engish. You need to know Engish to get most jobs in Okahoma. Finish high schoo We may be abe to hep you get in casses to study for the Genera Educationa Deveopment Certificate (GED). Passing this test can hep you get a job that cas for a high schoo dipoma. Work Experience Program (WEP) If you have never worked, or if you have not worked for a ong time, we can hep you earn new skis or brush up on od skis. You go to work in an actua job. You earn how to get to work
on time and get things done at home even when you work. You estabish a work history and get etters of reference, just as you woud from a reguar job. WEP asts up to three months. You won t get paid a saary, but you continue to receive TANF cash assistance. Community Partnership Gives you work experience whie providing a direct benefit to the community. Vocationa Training If the job you want requires specia training, you can attend a training program for up to 12 months. Job Search You receive eads to hep you find a job on your own. You get information on where to ook for jobs, how to write a resume, how to interview, and how to keep a job when you get one. Specia programs Once we do our best to hep you get ready, we show empoyers that it makes doars and cents to hire you. Sometimes we can use specia programs ike these: Subsidized Empoyment Program OKDHS repays your empoyer for part of your wages. You are a fu-time empoyee with a the benefits that the other empoyees receive. Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) The aw aows private empoyers to take a credit on their federa income tax when they hire peope from certain groups, incuding TANF recipients.
