Butterfly Newsletter - 5th June- 21st July. The boys and girls just love dressing up- and for many of them, they particularly like to be Superhero's. So over the next 7 weeks our theme will be Superhero's and we will be particularly focusing on mathematical development, as we encourage our Superhero's to talk and think like mathematicians. We will also be handing out home link sheets with learning opportunities and superhero challenges that you can do at home with your child to extend the fun and learning opportunities. We will be transforming our theme room into a superhero city, with dressing up outfits and props to make and wear such as gadget belts, masks and

capes, a magic maths mobile a code cracking cave, a superhero special powers lab and much more. Week 1 - Our Shape Superhero's. We will be introducing our own made up shapes Superhero's, such as triangle man and singing new superhero number rhymes as well as creating zappers and blasters using 3 d shapes. We will also be making our own Walkie talkies, designing shape capes and decorating masks. In our cave we will be learning to crack codes using our spy pens and by sequencing secret shapes to take part in our daily super missions. We will be helping to look after all our friends in the city of Stepping Stones by going on Superhero training and by helping to create positive powers. Week 2- The Incredible Hulk.

We will be testing out our strength this week as we take part in many physical challenges and lift the weights to see which are the heaviest. We will be

knocking down walls in the garden as well as pumping up green 'muscle' balloons and bursting balloons to find the secret missions inside. We will be playing in our green hulk slime as well as mixing potions in our experiment lab. In the craft room we will be creating special Superhero cards for our Daddy or Grandad and talking all about our dads special powers and what makes them our hero's. Week 3 - Wonderwoman. This week we will be creating tiaras, indestructible bracelets and magical swords. We will writing down all the wonderful things we are able to do, to put into our new little school booklets to share with our new teachers and we will be talking about getting ready to fly off to our new big schools, now that we have gained our special powers of wisdom and courage, just like Wonderwoman

and we will be painting pictures of ourselves flying to school on our welcome room wall display. Week 4 - Spider-Man. This week we will be creating skyscrapers and webs in the craft room and taking part in lots of Spider-Man challenges - as we capture the villains in silly string, lace them up in string webs and rescue the Superheros by unlocking

padlocks using keys.we will be setting stopwatches and timers to see if we can beat the clock! In our news room this week we will be taking turns to be the news reader and broadcast the Superhero events in the city of Stepping Stones. Week 5- Ice Man We will be taking part in lots of ice experiments this week- freezing Superhero's in water and then using hammers to crack the ice to rescue them, making colourful ice kryptonite and defrosting frozen peas with warm water and salt as well as making frozen ice man hands to take home. We will be playing with our Superhero city, creating our own stories and writing our own comic strips. We will also be creating comic strips with our

friends by using large picture boards in the garden and also by taking photos using the i- pad to create a photo comic strip. Week 6- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles We will be making turtle face masks to wear this week and creating shells to wear on our backs by creating patterns with new shapes and learning all about tessellation. We will be designing shape pizzas as well as working together to create a giant pretend pizza- following recipe cards and descriptive clues to select the correct toppings. In the garden we will be going on a pizza hunt to find the matching shaped pizzas to feed the 4 hungry turtles.

Week 7- If I were a superhero... This week we will be talking about what superhero we would be and what special super powers we would have. We will be creating our own superhero identity badges in our superhero headquarters and we will be designing costumes and gadgets. Our story of the week is Supertato and we will be helping Supertato find the hidden evil pea amongst our role play supermarket shelf( using positional language such as in, on, under and behind) In the craft room we will be creating pictures using potato mashers and other kitchen utensils as well as using the potato mashers to squash the evil peas. Ha ha ha!!! We will be holding a Superhero's party for all the boys and girls who will be flying off to Big School in September. Invitations will be given out and Details of this event will follow at a later date.
