Industry Note November 27, 2017 Entertainment: Retail Black Friday 2017 Review Analysts Michael Pachter 213-688-4474 Michael.Pachter@wedbush.com Alicia Reese 212-938-9927 Alicia.Reese@wedbush.com Nick McKay 213-688-4343 Nick.McKay@wedbush.com Matthew Breda 213-688-4480 Matthew.Breda@wedbush.com Black Friday 2017 featured a number of compelling video game hardware discounts, with Sony appearing to win Thanksgiving week with a $199 price point for the PlayStation 4 with a 1TB hard drive. We noted multiple retail locations with zero or minimal inventory of the discounted console by Friday morning, whereas the other devices on offer, including the Nintendo Switch, appeared to largely be in-stock through Friday. GameStop decided to open its doors on Thanksgiving Day in 2017, a departure from its practice in past years, competing for consumer wallet share on Thursday against fellow retailers Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. Underlining its ambition to be relevant one day ahead of Black Friday, GameStop somewhat surprisingly had the best hardware deal that we saw late last week, offering the aforementioned 1TB PS4 with a $50 gift card. Microsoft countered Sony s compelling PS4 offer with a 500GB Xbox One S for $189, a $90 discount. Target offered a $25 gift card with the purchase of the device, among the best deals that we saw. Multiple retailers had $50 off of Xbox One S consoles. For their high-end devices, Sony offered $50 off of the PS4 Pro, while Microsoft chose to maintain the $499 MSRP of the recently-introduced Xbox One X. Nintendo opted against discounting its newest hardware device, the Switch, which was available at all of the retail locations that we visited for $299. Activision Blizzard s Call of Duty: WWII appeared to be the most popular game available last week, with Best Buy offering the lowest price we saw at $39.99, representing a $20 discount. A Best Buy location that we visited had completely sold out of the game by Friday morning. As in past years, EA s newest FIFA and Madden games and Take-Two s newest NBA game appeared to be among the most popular titles on offer, with all three games benefitting from their customary Black Friday discounting. Similar to the Switch hardware itself, Nintendo s most popular Switch software title, Super Mario Odyssey, did not see discounting. EA s Star Wars Battlefront II was not among Black Friday s discounted titles despite the publisher s high-profile last-minute decision to pull microtransactions from the game. We think Best Buy had a successful Black Friday. In the Best Buy stores we visited on Black Friday, traffic and inventory levels were higher than the prior year. TVs were the top selling items, and among the TVs sold, customers were mostly opting for the 50-inch or greater size. According to our online checks, Best Buy offered better pricing overall than Amazon between Thanksgiving and Sunday, November 26. While pricing remained roughly consistent on both sites between Thanksgiving and Saturday, November 25, pricing increased modestly on Sunday, November 26. We will continue to monitor both sites on Cyber Monday and throughout the Holiday period, as we believe this is a vital data point for determining whether Best Buy can achieve its full year guidance. Mixed results from our consumer electronics channel checks on Black Friday. Fitbit offered a mix of discounts depending on the retailer, with inventory levels reflecting moderate sell-through of various products. GoPro s HERO6 inventory was low in the stores we checked, while HERO5 inventory was notably higher, suggesting that GoPro may have to discount HERO5 over the holiday period. Wedbush Securities does and seeks to do business with companies covered in its research reports. Thus, investors should be aware that the firm may have a conflict of interest that could affect the objectivity of this report. Investors should consider this report as only a single factor in making their investment decision. Please see pages 14 16 of this report for analyst certification and important disclosure information. Page 1

Video Game Discussion Black Friday 2017 featured a number of compelling video game hardware discounts, with Sony appearing to win Thanksgiving week with a $199 price point for the PlayStation 4 with a 1TB hard drive. Our positive checks followed two earlier disclosures by GameStop and the game s publisher. Last week, GameStop disclosed that launch sales of the newest Call of Duty were up 64% in dollar terms from those of its predecessor a year ago. On November 8, Activision Publishing announced worldwide sell-through over the game s first three days of over $500 million, with overall unit sales at launch that had doubled year-over-year globally. Our channel checks last week increase our confidence that the newest Call of Duty can sell-in well over 20 million units in its launch quarter, returning the franchise to the heights seen prior to last year s disappointing Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Ubisoft s high-profile recent releases Assassin s Creed Origins and South Park: The Fractured but Whole were available at compelling discounts that likely helped to boost their appeal as stocking stuffers next month. EA s Star Wars Battlefront II was not among Black Friday s discounted titles despite the publisher s high-profile last-minute decision to pull microtransactions from the game. EA previously announced that the removal of microtransactions was not expected to have a material impact on its FY:18 guidance. We continue to believe that the loyal Star Wars fan base will enable the game to match the success of its 2015 predecessor. Page 2

Consumer Electronics Discounts Fitbit.com Through November 27, Fitbit.com is offering $50 off basic Charge 2, Alta HR, and Blaze models. The special edition of each is offered at full price. All other Fitbit products, including the Ionic, are offered at full price on its website. GoPro.com Through November 27, GoPro.com is offering $200 off the Karma Drone if purchased along with the HERO6 Black. There are no discounts offered otherwise for HERO6 or HERO5 products. Best Buy Fitbit Best Buy offered the Alta HR and Charge 2 at $100, a $50 discount. Inventory levels across fitness trackers were low in most stores we checked, with the Blaze sold out in multiple stores. Ionic inventory levels were moderate to low in the stores we checked. Last year, Best Buy offered the Alta at $100, a $30 discount, the Blaze at $150, a $50 discount, and the Charge 2 at $130, a $20 discount. GoPro GoPro products were not on sale at Best Buy this year. At one store we checked, HERO6 were completely sold out by mid-day, while there were low inventory levels at other stores. HERO5 inventory was more plentiful in the stores we checked, indicating to us that GoPro may have to reduce price on HERO5 to work through inventory this holiday. Last year, Best Buy offered the HERO5 Black at its MSRP of $400 with a 64GB memory card and a $35 gift card. It offered a HERO4 Session bundle with a handler and a head strap for $180, a $70 discount. Page 8

Turtle Beach Turtle Beach headsets were sold out at the Best Buy stores we checked in the Boston area, which to us is unsurprising given the high level of video game console purchases we saw. Last year, Best Buy offered the Ear Force XO One wired headset for $40, a $40 discount, with savings of up to $50 on select Turtle Beach headsets. Target Fitbit Target offered the Alta HR and Charge 2 at $100, a $50 discount. There was no discount offered for the Ionic or Blaze. Inventory levels were moderate for each product. Last year, Target offered the HERO5 Black at its MSRP of $400 with a $60 gift card. It offered a HERO4 Session bundle with a handler and a 16GB memory card for $180, a $70 discount, with a $20 gift card. Walmart Fitbit Walmart offered the Blaze for $200, a $50 discount. Last year, Walmart offered a HERO4 Session bundle with a handler and a 16GB memory card for $179, a roughly $70 discount. Page 9

TV Discounts As it does every year, Best Buy had various Black Friday doorbuster TV deals. In the stores we visited in the Los Angeles, Boston, and Atlanta regions on Black Friday, TVs were the top selling items. The TV discounts most prominently displayed in the stores we checked included Insignia Roku TV 21 LED TV 720P for $129.99, Insignia Roku TV 49 LED TV 1080p for $319.99, and Sony Bravia 50 4K HDR Ultra HD for $699.99. Exiting the store, we saw far more TVs in the 50+ inch range and under-$1,000 price range. Overall store inventory levels were significantly higher than the prior year, according to staff. Our checks indicated that stores were busier than last year, with crowds and long lines lasting well into the evening at the Best Buy locations we checked. Best Buy and Amazon Online Comparisons Relative to last year, Amazon and Best Buy s online discounting around Black Friday appeared to occur over roughly the same period, while this year s selection of deals appeared to skew more towards higher definition, higher resolution, wider, and higher priced televisions. Amazon s Black Friday Deals Store opened on November 1 both this year and last year, with sporadic discounting set to occur through December 22, which is also in-line. The top advertised deals however, as highlighted in Amazon s annual Black Friday press release, included both a greater number of televisions (nine this year, versus six last year) along with a greater mix of 4K televisions (seven this year, versus three last year). Also notable was the lack of a claim of lowest prices on any specific television brands this year, versus last year s claim applicable to select Samsung, Sony, and LG models. Our online basket analysis (figures 5 6 on pages 12 13) suggests that Best Buy offered lower pricing among the same selection of televisions online. Best Buy s Black Friday deals began at the same time as last year (with doorbusters available beginning at 5pm on Thanksgiving), and this year also included offers such as free delivery on all televisions larger than 51-inches, and 24-month financing on home theater purchases $799 and up. In terms of the depth of discounting and mix, Best Buy s discounts similarly appeared to skew towards higher definition, higher resolution, wider, and higher priced televisions. Among the top 50 best-selling televisions online, Black Friday discounts appeared deeper relative to the prior week on Best Buy, reflecting earlier, sporadic discounting across Amazon televisions that began on 11/14. Discounting also appeared deeper across higher definition and wider format televisions, creating more value for customers at the high end, likely benefitting ASP s overall. Sources: BestBuy.com, Amazon.com, and Wedbush Securities. The mix of televisions among the top 50 best-selling televisions appeared to shift towards higher resolution and wider format televisions, suggesting that customers responded well to the greater dollar-value discounting among those formats. The mix shift from last week to Black Friday suggests that ASP s in the television category may have seen a meaningful boost. While pricing remained roughly consistent on both sites between Thanksgiving and Saturday, November 25, pricing appeared to increase modestly on Sunday, November 26, reducing the difference between the two baskets. It remains to be seen how basket pricing will be impacted by Cyber Monday, but we will continue to monitor both sites throughout the Holiday period. Page 13
