Opertion uttons The opertion uttons help you to esily perform vrious si sewing mhine opertions. Strt/stop utton Press the strt/stop utton to strt or stop sewing. The mhine sews t low speed t the eginning of sewing while the utton is ontinuously pressed. When sewing is stopped, the needle is lowered into the fri. For detils, refer to Strting to sew (pge 44). Reverse/reinforement stith utton Press the reverse/reinforement stith utton to sew reverse stithes or reinforement stithes. Reverse stithes re sewn y keeping the utton pressed down to sew in the opposite diretion. stithes re sewn y sewing 3 to 5 stithes on top of eh other. For detils, refer to Seuring the stithing (pge 46). Needle position utton Press the needle position utton to rise or lower the needle. Pressing the utton twie sews one stith. d Sewing speed ontroller Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the left or right to djust the sewing speed. Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the left to redue the sewing speed, or slide the speed ontroller to the right to inrese the sewing speed. Opertion pnel The opertion pnel, loted on the front of the sewing mhine, llows you to selet stith nd speify how the stith will e sewn. Flt ed tthment The essories re stored in the storge spe in the flt ed tthment. Swing the lid of the flt ed tthment towrd you to open the storge spe. LCD (liquid rystl disply) The numer of the seleted stith (1), the presser foot to e used (2), the stith length (mm) (3), nd the stith width (mm) (4) re displyed here. Stith length key (pge 42) Use to djust the length of the stith. (Press the side for shorter stith length, or press the + side for longer stith length.) Stith width key (pge 43) Use to djust the width of the stith. (Press the side for more nrrow stith width, or press the + side for wider stith width.) d Automti reverse/reinforement stith key (pge 48) The sewing mhine n e set to utomtilly sew reverse or reinforement stithes t the eginning nd end of the stithing. e Needle mode seletion key (single/twin) (pge 26) Press this key to selet the twin needle sewing setting. A letter (A, G, J, N or R) inditing the presser foot tht should e used ppers elow the stith numer. Atth the stith pttern plte to the stith pttern plte holder, nd then tth the holder to the hndle of the sewing mhine s shown in the illustrtion elow. 1 GETTING READY Turning the Mhine On/Off 1 This setion explins how to turn the sewing mhine on nd off. Power supply preutions Be sure to oserve the following preutions onerning the power supply. WARNING Use only regulr household eletriity for the power soure. Using other power soures my result in fire, eletri shok, or dmge to the mhine. Mke sure tht the plugs on the power ord re firmly inserted into the eletril outlet nd the power supply jk on the mhine. Otherwise, fire or eletri shok my result. Do not insert the plug on the power ord into n eletril outlet tht is in poor ondition. Turn off the min power nd remove the plug in the following irumstnes: When you re wy from the mhine After using the mhine When the power fils during use When the mhine does not operte orretly due to d onnetion or disonnetion During eletril storms Use only the power ord inluded with this mhine. Do not use extension ords or multi-plug dpters with mny other pplines plugged in to them. Fire or eletri shok my result. Do not touh the plug with wet hnds. Eletri shok my result. When unplugging the mhine, lwys turn off the min power first. Alwys grsp the plug to remove it from the outlet. Pulling on the ord my dmge the ord, or led to fire or eletri shok. GETTING READY Turning on the mhine Prepre the inluded power ord. Mke sure tht the sewing mhine is turned off (the min power swith is set to ), nd then plug the power ord into the power supply jk on the right side of the mhine. Insert the plug of the power ord into household eletril outlet. Turning off the mhine When you re finished using the sewing mhine, turn it off. In ddition, efore trnsporting the sewing mhine to nother lotion, e sure to turn it off. Mke sure tht the mhine is not sewing. Press the left side of the min power swith on the right side of the mhine (set it to ). The sewing lmp nd the LCD go off when the mhine is turned off. Grsp the plug when unplugging the power ord. Unplug the power ord from the power supply jk. The sewing lmp nd the LCD ome on when the mhine is turned on. Memo When the mhine is turned on, the needle nd the feed dogs will mke sound when they move; this is not mlfuntion. te If power outge ours while the sewing mhine is eing operted, turn off the sewing mhine nd unplug the power ord. When restrting the sewing mhine, follow the neessry proedure to orretly operte the mhine. (For U.S.A. only) This ppline hs polrized plug (one lde wider thn the other). To redue the risk of eletril shok, this plug is intended to fit in polrized outlet only one wy. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. Prepring for Upper nd Lower Threding Winding the oin Wind the thred onto the oin. Slide the spool onto the pin so tht the spool is horizontl nd the thred unwinds to the front t the ottom. th Boin winder shft spring Slide the oin winder shft to the right until it snps into ple. GETTING READY f Slide the spool p onto the spool pin. With the slightly rounded side of the spool p positioned towrd the left, slide the spool p onto the spool pin s fr s possile to the right so tht the spool is moved to the right end of the spool pin. g While holding the spool with your right hnd, pull the thred with your left hnd, nd then pss the thred under the thred guide. Memo When sewing with fine, ross-wound thred, use the smll spool p, nd leve smll spe etween the p nd the spool. 1 Thred guide Pss the thred under the thred guide over h from the k to the front. Hold the thred with your right hnd so tht there is no slk in the thred tht is pulled out, nd then pss the thred under the thred guide over with your left hnd. Spool p (smll) Spool (ross-wound thred) Spe When using thred tht winds off quikly, suh s trnsprent nylon thred or metlli thred, ple the spool net over the spool efore pling the spool of thred onto the spool pin. If the spool net is too long, fold it to fit the size of the spool. When the spool net is used, the tension of the upper thred will slightly inrese. Be sure to hek the thred tension. j While using your left hnd to hold the thred tht ws pssed through the oin-winding thred guide, use your right hnd to wind the end of the thred lokwise round the oin five or six times. Press (strt/stop utton) one. m When the foot ontroller is plugged in, press down on the foot ontroller. The oin strts spinning nd the thred is wound round the oin. 1 k Pss the end of the thred through the slit in the oin winder set, nd then pull the thred to the right to ut it. Slit in oin winder set (with uilt-in utter) The thred is ut to suitle length. Be sure to ut the thred s desried. If the oin is wound without utting the thred using the utter uilt into the slit in the oin winder set, the oin my not e wound orretly. In ddition, the thred my eome tngled in the oin or the needle my end or rek when the oin thred strts to run out. Strt/stop utton When the oin winding eomes slow, n press (strt/stop utton) one to stop the mhine. When the foot ontroller is plugged in, remove your foot from the foot ontroller. o When the oin winding eomes slow, stop the mhine, otherwise the sewing mhine my e dmged. Cut the thred, slide the oin winder shft to the left, nd then remove the oin from the shft. l Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the right to inrese the oin winding speed nd slide to left to derese. Sewing speed ontroller Memo When the sewing mhine is strted or the hndwheel is turned fter winding the thred round the oin, the mhine will mke liking sound; this is not mlfuntion. The needle nnot move (sewing is not possile) while the oin winder shft is moved to the right. 17

GETTING READY Instlling the oin Instll the oin wound with thred. Use oin tht hs een orretly wound, otherwise the needle my rek or the thred tension will e inorret. Turn off the sewing mhine (set it to ). Slide the lth on the right side of the oin over to the right, nd then remove the oin over. The oin ws designed speifilly for this sewing mhine. T Needle position utton Be sure to hold down the oin with your finger nd instll the oin so tht the thred unwinds in the orret diretion, otherwise the needle my rek or the thred tension will e inorret. 18

e While lightly holding down oin with your right hnd s shown, guide the thred through the slit (1 nd 2). At this time, hek tht the oin esily rottes ounterlokwise. Then, pull the thred towrd you to ut it with the utter (3). f Retth the oin over. Insert the t in the lower-left orner of the oin over (A), nd then press down on the right side (B). A B 1 Slit Cutter (Cut the thred with the utter.) Mke sure tht the thred is orretly pssed through the flt spring of the oin se. If it is not inserted orretly, reinstll the oin. Memo You n egin sewing without pulling up the oin thred. If you wish to pull up the oin thred efore strting to sew, finish threding the mhine, nd then pull up the thred ording to the proedure in Pulling up the oin thred (pge 52). GETTING READY Threding the upper thred In this setion, the proedures for instlling the spool for the upper thred nd threding the needle re desried. Spool pin Mrk on hndwheel When threding the mhine, refully follow the instrutions. If the upper threding is not performed orretly, the thred my eome tngled nd the needle my end or rek. The needle threder n e used with sewing mhine needles 75/11 through 100/16. Use pproprite thred nd needle omintions. For detils on pproprite needle nd thred omintions, refer to Needle types nd their uses (pge 30). Thred with thikness of 130/20 or thiker nnot e used with the needle threder. The needle threder nnot e used with the wing needle or the twin needle. If the needle threder nnot e used, refer to Threding the needle mnully (without using the needle threder) (pge 26). Turn on the sewing mhine. Rise the presser foot lever. Presser foot lever If the presser foot is not rised, the sewing mhine nnot e threded orretly. 20

GETTING READY Cut the thred with the thred utter on the left side of the mhine. Lower the needle threder lever on the left side of the mhine, nd then slowly return the lever to its originl position. Thred utter te When using thred tht quikly winds off the spool, suh s metlli thred, it my e diffiult to thred the needle if the thred is ut. Therefore, insted of using the thred utter, pull out out 80 mm (pprox. 3 inhes) of thred fter pssing it through the thred guide disks (mrked 7 ). Needle threder lever The thred is pssed through the eye of the needle. te If the needle ws not ompletely threded, ut loop in the thred ws formed in the eye of the needle, refully pull the loop through the eye of the needle to pull out the end of the thred. 1 80 mm (3 inhes) or more When pulling out the thred, do not pull it with extreme fore, otherwise the needle my rek or end. 24

Rise the presser foot lever, pss the end of d the thred through the presser foot, nd then pull out out 5 m (2 inhes) of thred towrd the rer of the mhine. Cth the thred on the hook s shown elow. 1 5 m (2 inhes) The upper threding is finished. w tht the upper threding nd the lower threding re finished, you re redy to egin sewing. Needle threder lever Rise the needle threder lever, nd then pull the end of the thred whih pssed through the eye of the needle. te If the needle is not rised, the needle threder nnot thred the needle. Be sure to press (needle position utton) to rise the needle efore using the needle threder. For s without the thred guide disk While lowering the needle threder lever, hook the thred onto the guide. Be reful not to pull on the thred with fore or it my end the needle. Rise the presser foot lever, pss the end of d the thred through the presser foot, nd then pull out out 5 m (2 inhes) of thred towrd the rer of the mhine. 5 m (2 inhes) The upper threding is finished. Be sure to use the twin needle nd the extr spool pin. For detils on the stithes tht n e sewn with the twin needle, refer to Stith Settings (pge 89). Lower the presser foot lever. If one of the uttons is identlly pressed, the mhine will egin sewing nd your finger my e priked with the needle or the needle my rek. Mnully thred the left needle with the upper thred. With your left hnd, turn the srewdriver lokwise. te Thred the needle mnully when using the wlking foot, or only tth the wlking foot fter threding the needle using the needle threder. GETTING READY Lower the presser foot lever, insert the presser foot holder srew, nd then tighten the srew with the srewdriver. Rise the presser foot lever. Before strting to sew, slowly turn the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) nd hek tht the needle does not touh the presser foot. If the needle hits the presser foot, the needle my end or rek. te When sewing with the wlking foot, sew t speed etween slow nd medium. Removing the wlking foot Press (needle position utton) one or twie to rise the needle. Presser foot lever The presser foot is rised. With srewdriver, loosen the presser foot d holder srew, nd then remove the wlking foot. Insted, the mhine n e set to leve the needle rised when sewing is stopped. When the needle stops in the rised position The needle stops in the rised position when sewing ends. 1 Turn off the sewing mhine. Memo After sewing is finished, the fri n e pulled out. While pressing (utomti reverse/ reinforement stith key), turn on the sewing mhine. When mhine eeps twie, relese the utomti reverse/reinforement stith key. When the needle stops in the lowered position The needle stops in the lowered position when sewing ends. Memo Use this position to hnge the sewing diretion ( Chnging the sewing diretion (pge 50)) or to stop while sewing. Automti reverse/reinforement stith key The needle stop position hnges to the rised position. Memo Perform the sme opertion to hnge the needle stop position to the lowered position. 37

While pressing (needle mode seletion key), turn on the sewing mhine. When the mhine eeps twie, relese the needle mode seletion key. Needle mode seletion key (single/twin) The initil needle position is hnged to the enter needle position. Memo The speified initil needle position is mintined even fter the mhine is turned off. Perform the sme opertion to hnge the initil needle position to the left needle position. 38

Sewing Cylindril or Lrge Piees When sewing ylindril or lrge piees of fri, remove the flt ed tthment. Sewing lrge piees of fri The optionl wide tle mkes sewing lrge piees of fri esier. 1 Pull the flt ed tthment off to the left. Open up the legs t the ottom of the wide tle. Pull out the four legs until they snp into ple. With the flt ed tthment removed, free-rm sewing is possile. Slide the prt tht you wish to sew onto the rm, nd then sew from the top. Pull the flt ed tthment off to the left. When you re finished with free-rm sewing, instll the flt ed tthment k in its originl position. 39

Use the orret presser foot for the type of stith tht you wish to sew, otherwise the needle my hit the presser foot, using the needle to end or rek. When sewing, mke sure tht the needle does not strike sting pins, otherwise the needle my rek or end. Before repling the presser foot, e sure to turn off the sewing mhine, otherwise injuries my our if the strt/stop utton is identlly pressed nd the mhine strts sewing. 2 Sewing proedure The si sewing proedure is shown elow. 1 Turn on the mhine. Turn on the sewing mhine. For detils, refer to Turning on the mhine (pge 14). 2 Selet stith. Selet stith pproprite for the pplition. For detils, refer to Seleting stith (pge 42). 3 Atth the presser foot. Atth the presser foot tht is pproprite for the type of stith tht you wish to sew. For detils, refer to Repling the presser foot (pge 33). 4 Strt sewing. Position the fri, nd then strt sewing. When sewing is finished, ut the threds. SEWING BASICS Seleting stith Selet eh stith y using the pttern seletion dil. Turn on the sewing mhine. Turn the pttern seletion dil to selet the stith to e sewn. Turn the dil to the right to inrese the numer, or turn the dil to the left to derese the numer.
