Any brush that is stiff, I have found for me, works great. Load brush with paint, brush back and forth on palette, then on paper towel to remove most of the paint. At the same time, you will be moving paint up into the bristles. Test before applying to the surface. Softly dab or scrub where needed. This tends to feel time con- 1
suming, but have patience. You want to build up the color. You can always add, but it is harder to take the color away. Spattering: I like to use an old tooth brush. Dip the brush into paint, not too much, you can always add. Then using the handle of a large brush, pull the handle over the tooth brush, pulling toward yourself. This is going from the front to the back. Practice on paper to get the hang of it. Slip/Slap: Use a criss/cross (X-ing) motions as you base. I like to use the 1 wash brush on a large surface. After the first basecoat is applied, when adding other colors, I like to keep the brush damp. Dip the toe of brush into paint and the other toe into water, just a little. This is wet on wet, I do this fairly quickly so I have time to blend the sections. Do not over blend, if your surface is looking too flat (colors have all blended together) then you may be over-blending, working in one area to long, you will need to add more dark or light color. Repeat until your are happy with the results. Dirty brush: This is going from one color to the next without cleaning out your brush and keeping your brush dry. Seal all houses with Deco Art All Purpose Sealer and let dry. Lightly sand again and remove dust. Painting Instructions: Blue house: 1. Basecoat the background with French Grey Blue. (See instructions above) While paint is still damp, load the dirty brush with Desert Turquoise and brush on the background in a slip slap motion. Next, pick up Winter Blue and blend in lighter areas. At this point, you may need to add darker or even lighter color. Let dry. Shade around the edge with Desert turquoise, and turn your brush on the chisel edge and pull down some lines down the house. Let this dry. Repeat shading with Bittersweet Chocolate and pull down more lines on the house. Let dry. 2. Trace on basic lines. 3. Basecoat the roof with Cocoa. Using a flat brush, load with Traditional Burnt Sienna on one side and Antique White on the other side (tow) blend on palette. Start at the bottom row, and paint the singles in one stroke, press down, pull and lift as you are pulling up. Load brush a continue up to the top of roof. If you go over the window area, this will be ok. You will be base coating the windows and this will cover it up. If needed, you can darken in between 2
