Shed Kit Contents The shed kit includes all the parts needed to assemble your shed except for tools and fasteners such as screws and nails. The various pieces are pre-cut and many are marked to indicate their function and placement. Assembly requires at least 2 workers. Completed shed shown with optional cupola and barn sash window kit! 1. Assembling floor Position floor sections and screw them together from both sides using two 3" screws. 1 Position plywood flooring over joined floor sections. Use 3" screws to attach the flooring to the floor sections. Join floor sections; screw sections together using two 3" screws on each side Attach flooring 2 2. Raising front & back panels NOTE: Use 3" screws at 16" intervals to fasten front, back and end panels to the floor and at corners. NOTE: Position front panel 1 1/2" in from edge on either side Raise front panel WARNING: On a windy day, use 2x4 s to brace the front and back panels until you raise the end panels. Raise the front panel, positioning it 1 1/2" in from the edge on either side. Screw the front panel to the floor. Raise the back panel, positioning it 1 1/2" in from the edge on either side. Screw the back panel to the floor. Attach front panel to floor 2 Raise back panel and position 1 1/2" in on either side

3 End panel. Note the 2x4s attached at either end. 3. Raising end panels NOTE: These panels are notched at either end. When you raise the end panels, fit the notches into the 1 1/2" space left at each corner by the front & back panels. Raise the end panels after the front & back panels are screwed in place. At each end, screw through the attached 2x4 into the front or back panel. Screw the end panels to the floor. Fit notched end panels into 1 1/2" spaces left at corners Front, back & side panels shown all attached Screw the end panels through the attached 2x4s into the front and back panels. Screw the end panels to the floor. 4. Unscrewing doors The doors in the front panel, as provided in the kit, are screwed shut. Once all the panels are raised and attached, unscrew the doors at top and bottom as shown at left. 4 Unscrew doors at the top and bottom 3

Position gable ends & fasten in place 5 5. Attaching gable ends Position the gable ends & fasten in place using 3"screws. As the closeup shows, attach the gables to the 2 x 4 at the top of the side panels by screwing upwards into the gable braces. Fasten 2x4 on gable ends across sides Screw gable ends to side panels at front and back. 6. Positioning and attaching rafters The rafter plates atop the front and back panels are marked with an X and a line to indicate where to place the rafters. Provided rafters are notched as shown. 6 X marks indicate positions of roof rafters across rafter plate. Notched front and back rafters 4

(1) (2) Place the rafters astride the front & back panels where indicated on the X side of the line. Screw each rafter down both (1) from the top down and (2) from the side down. Fasten each rafter down (1) from the top and (2) from the side Rafters shown installed 7 7. Mounting plywood ridge board Before installing the plywood ridge boards on the roof peak, mark them 16" on center. Then use 3" screws to attach the ridge boards to the rafters. Mark plywood roofing 16" on center before installing Apply plywood across peak of roof by screwing them into rafters NOTES (1) Screw the plywood into the center line of the rafters. (2) Position plywood roofing flush with the edges of the rafters at either end. Be sure to attach plywood ridge boards at center line of rafter 5

8 8. Installing overhang fasteners Fasten plate on the front panel where indicated by X marks above the drawn caulk line. Place overhang fasteners against the front panel and next to the rafter so the bottoms are flush. Fasten front face plate on side indicated by X marks above caulk line 9. Installing overhang boards Locate the front overhang board. Attach roof rafters to braces 9 Position the overhang board underneath the rafters at the front of the shed. Square the board with the rafters at the corners, then fasten the overhang board at one end by screwing upwards. Before attaching the overhang board at the other end, use a 24" pipe clamp to pull the gable end together and eliminate any gaps. If necessary, adjust the boards to ensure they join snugly. Below right shows using a tool to nudge the board so it makes a tight join. Make overhang board flush with bottom of rafter Square up overhang board & fasten in place Use clamp at one end of the overhang to eliminate any gaps. 6

10 Fasten each overhang bracke into overhang board and front panel 10. Installing overhang braces & gable boards Locate the two overhang braces, which are short 2x3s cut at a 45 degree angle. On either side, screw the overhang braces into the overhang board and front panel. Locate the gable boards, which are clearly marked for use on the left or right gable end of the shed. Screw gable boards to gable panels. Place gable boards in spaces shown above. Apply & fasten side boards 11. Applying & fastening molding Locate front molding for underneath the overhang. The gable molding is already partially attached. Hammer in the front and gable molding using 1 1/2" finish nails. 11 Apply & fasten molding using 1 1/2" finish nails 7

12 Square up overhang board for rear of shed & install 12. Installing rear overhang board Locate the rear overhang board. Square the rear overhang board so that the outer edge of the board is flush with the outer edge of the rafters as shown. Screw the overhang board into the rafters. 13. Installing lower siding boards Unscrew bottom door hinges and remove the spacers. Insert bottom siding boards all around the shed. Fasten boards to the front, back and sides of the shed using 2" screws. Then re-attach the door hinges. 13 Unscrew bottom door hinges & remove spacers; insert bottom siding boards (shown marked) Apply lower siding boards around bottom of sheds Re-attach door hinges 8

14 Install plywood roofing 15 14. 15. Installing plywood roofing Lay down plywood roofing panels over the rafters, placing the panels so they extend 1 1/2" over the edge. NOTE: (1) Make plywood sections meet at rafter center lines and (2) screw the plywood into rafter center lines. Use 2" screws to attach roofing to rafters. Roofing extends 1 1/2" over edge [OPTIONAL] Cutting out cupola opening at roof peak At the midpoint of the roof peak, measure & mark the cupola hole placement. Cut out a 7" wide x 5" deep section making sure it s centered. In center of roof at peak, mark cupola hole placement Cupola notch Cut out 7" wide x 5" deep section at peak on each side 16. Fastening face boards below roof overhang Locate faceboards. Use 1 1/2" finishing nails to attach faceboards onto rafters below roof edging at the front and back of the shed. 16 Fasten face boards 9

17 17. Attaching trim & shutters Nail the trim to the four corners of the shed using finish nails. Trim should be attached with the joints facing outwards from the sides of the shed. Attach corner trim (note joints on side) Use finish nails to attach the shutters on either side of the window opening as shown. [OPTIONAL] Attach the flower boxes below the windows. Attach shutters standard window 18 Aluminum drip edging strips 18. Attaching aluminum drip edging strips Use 1 1/4" roofing nails to nail aluminum strips along the edge of the plywood roof. Use tin snips to make a perpendicular cut at the roof peak. At the corners of the roof, make cuts parallel to the edge of the roof and overlap the strips. Cut & bend roof edging 10

Shingling instructions 21 19 Shingle packages atop roof 20 19. Installing shingles The kit includes shingle packages that include their own installation instructions. Install shingles according to instructions. 20. 21. Cutting out 2x4 section at door sill The shed kit arrives with a 2x4 extending the length of the front of the shed. At this point in the construction process, use a hand saw to cut out the section of the 2x4 at the door sill opening. Be sure to make the cuts flush with the door jambs. Attaching barrel bolt & door stop Remove the barrel bolt and tee nut, which you ll find underneath the door brace, and the door stop, which is attached to the inside of the door as shown. Use 3" screws to fasten the door stop to the underside of the door. Remove barrel bolt & door stop from inside of door Fasten door stop to under side of door With the barrel bolt locked in the up position, position the bolt one-finger width above the floor and fasten it onto the back of the door. Close the door, then lower the barrel bolt until it touches the floor. Lightly hammer the top of the bolt to make a dimple impression on the floor to mark where to insert the tee nut. With barrel bolt locked in up position, space bolt and fasten on back of door one-finger width above floor Where hammering the barrel bolt has dimpled the floor, drill a 7/16" hole, then hammer in the tee nut. Where hammering the barrel bolt has dimpled the floor, drill a 7/16" hole, then hammer in the tee nut. 11

22. Inserting door handle Insert the door handle into the pre-drilled opening. Screw the door handle in place. Attach the inner part of the handle stem 1 1/2" out from the door, then tighten the set screw. 22 Note that the outside handle must be horizontal and the inside handle must be vertical when installing door handle. Insert door handle Screw door handle in place INSIDE Attach inner part of handle 1 1/2" out from door & tighten screw. Note that the outside handle must be horizontal and the inside handle vertical. 23 23. [OPTIONAL] Installing the cupola Remove the screen that comes attached to the cupola. Lay the screen over the cupola opening on the ridge of the roof and nail in place. Place the cupola over the screened opening. Check the horizontal orientation of the cupola and screw in place using four 2" screws. 24 Kit includes touch-up paint for both siding & trim 24. Puttying holes & painting trim The kit includes cans of touch-up paint for both the siding and the trim. Putty nail holes where necessary on the shed and use the provided paint to touch up the sides and the trim. Congratulations! Your shed is now complete. 12 Putty holes & paint trim

Appendix Installing Optional Barn Sash Windows Standard windows come preinstalled in the front panel. Follow these instructions to install the optional barn sash window kit. Guides must be vertical to the floor Fasten window guides together with 1 1/2" finish nails. Then install the window guides up against 2x4 provided. Optional barn window kit Fasten guides together with 1 1/2" finish nails Install window guides against 2x4 provided Install the barn windows. Insert the barrel bolt at the top of each window into the pre-drilled hole in the locked position. Nail in window stops with 1 1/2" finish nails Then install each window screen at the top of the window guides. Use 1 1/2" finish nails to atttach the window stops.
