Suspension system description This high performance grid system is made from galvanized Z100 steel. The system consists of main runners, cross tees and perimeter trims. The profiles are painted white as standard.* The system is intended to be suspended from soffits using nonius hangers. The grid components have an exposed face width of 50mm. Grid cross connectors should be placed into cross tees and then hooked onto and mechanically fastened to main runners using self tapping screws 3.5 x 9.5mm (DIN 7504). At walls, the ends of the main runners and cross tees should be connected to the wall using grid wall connectors. The hold-down grid can be fitted after the Rockfon Boxer / Samson tile has been installed. * Other colours available on request. Tile compatibility The system is intended for use with Rockfon Samson and Boxer tiles. The main runner and the cross tee remain exposed after assembly. As a result of the space between the back of the ceiling tile and the bottom of the holddown grid, the tiles can be raised approximately 10 mm. Every tile can be removed by disconnecting the angled C-profile connector. 40 40 A-edge tile. Installing Rockfon Boxer / Samson. Hold-down grid The Rockfon tiles (40 mm thick) are held in place by a hold-down H frame. This is made from 2 x 2 lengths of C-profile. The two long C-profiles bridge the distance from main runner to main runner, whilst the two short C-profiles bridge the distance between the two long C-profiles. The short and the long C-profiles are connected together by the straight C-profile connector. Angled C-profile connectors are fitted to the end of the long C-profiles and clicked into the grooves in the main runners. The hold-down H frame should be installed symmetrically in the 1200 x 1200 mm module. NB: Pay special attention to the location of the main runner grid connectors, so that the angled C-profile connectors can be clicked in place.
Module dimensions This ceiling system has a module dimension of 1200 x 1200 mm. 1200 mm 1200 mm Perimeter trims There are two methods for connecting the ceiling to a wall. Both methods use perimeter trims. Depending on the technical requirements placed on the room, they can be fitted against a wall either with or without a batten. Grid component attached to a wall. Hold-down C-profile attached to a wall. Fit the grid wall connector to the main runner using self tapping screws. Fasten the connector to the wall using appropriate fixings. Fit the angled C-profile connector to the C-profile using self tapping screws. Fasten the connector to the wall using appropriate fixings.
Grid components The main runners should be suspended from the soffit using nonius hangers. The length of the nonius hangers can be adjusted. The centre-to-centre distance of both the main runners and the cross tees is 1200 mm. The maximum distance from the wall to a nonius hanger is 450 mm for each grid member. The distance between the nonius hangers for each grid member must not exceed 1200 mm. max. 1200 mm max. 450 mm Cross tees The cross tees should be placed at right angles to the main runners. The centreto-centre distance of the cross tees is the module width (1200 mm). Grid cross connectors should be connected to the ends of the cross tees. These should be screwed on to the main runner where the perforation on the top of the connector piece is located, as well as through the vertical side of the cross tees. Recommended screw: self-tapping, 3.5 x 9.5 mm (DIN 7504). 90 Cross tees are placed at right angles to the main runners. Cutting tiles to the correct size If necessary, the tiles can easily be cut to the correct size using a sharp knife.
Assembly The length of the nonius hangers can be adjusted. Suspension points The grid should be suspended using nonius hangers. The maximum distance from the wall to a nonius hanger is 450 mm. When using nonius hangers, the minimum suspension height is 200 mm. Larger suspension heights are possible. A larger suspension height makes it easier to fit the ceiling tiles. Ceiling layout Unless otherwise specified, the suspension system must be symmetrical within the room. If size (a) is used at the start of the longitudinal direction, then this size must also be used at the other end of the room. It is not recommended to fit tiles which have been cut to a length which is shorter than half the width or length of the tile. a b a b A symmetrical distribution of tiles gives the most attractive final result. Connection between the ceiling and a wall The battens and perimeter trims must be levelled against a wall (and be aligned). The distance between fixing points on a perimeter trim must not exceed 400 mm. For fire-resistant constructions, the perimeter trims must be attached directly against the wall or be fitted with fire-resistant battens. Connection between the ceiling and curved vertical surfaces When the ceiling connects with a curved vertical surface, pre-shaped and/or flexible perimeter trims must be used.
Demounting Demounting Rockfon tiles The tiles can be easily demounted. A hold-down H frame should be fitted above each Rockfon tile. Push the Rockfon tile upwards and click two of the four angled C-profile connectors out of the cross tees using the removal tool supplied or pliers or a hook. The tiles can now be removed from the grid system. The tiles can be easily demounted. Accessories Installing air handling and light fixtures A number of manufacturers supply a wide range of light and air handling fixtures whose dimensions are suitable for the various suspension systems. The suitable fixtures can be placed in and/or separately suspended at the desired positions in the grid system. If the fixtures are fitted in a tile, then extra precautions must be taken. Further information Resistance to corrosion The system meets corrosion class B in accordance with table 7 of the European product standard EN 13964. All the parts are made from Z100 steel (minimum zinc layer of 100 g/m 2 ). As a result, the system is suitable for use in rooms with a maximum relative humidity of 90% at a maximum temperature of 30 C.
