Richie s Report Eight Rotarians from our Club attended the District Assembly on Sunday and it was a very informative session, setting a great tone for the Rotary year ahead. Raffle ticket sales are going well, please remember to take your turn selling down the street, see Eric Lund for a time. Cheers, Richie Alistair Tame just missed Richard s head while preforming a landing, at least that the it looks! Saturday s Meeting A pleasant Saturday morning at McGeehans to learn about Drones Those who turned up were suitably impressed with the presentation from Alistair Tame from AT Aerial Services, Euroa. He is an Electrical Engineer from the wellknown Tame family in Strathbogie.
Alistair showed us 3 drones ranging in price from $1,800 to $ 12,000, that he uses in the business. The drones have built in GPS, cameras to take still pics and video, obstacle avoidance features and a barometer, for altitude measurements. All this data is automatically fed back to the controller, which can be mobile phone, tablet or computer. He normally only flies the drones with line of sight but they are capable up to a distance of 5-7 km. and can stay in the air for 25 min. Rain and strong winds are a problem flying drones and birds and eagles can be a real nuisance. Uses of drones include visual inspection of livestock and fences, mustering, mapping and elevation, weed control, cropping and water control, thermal imagining and farm planning. Future drones will be able to lift heavy objects and spray crops in a swarm formation. These drones will be much bigger and use petrol engines. Drones basically capture data, software uses that data and puts into information for the customer. This software is being continually developed as more uses are found. CASA has the legal control over the flying of drones, like the maximum height is 120 metres. The captive audience listens to all things drone Roman Kozlovski, Denis Nolan, Neville Harris, Rob Morphet, Yvonne Clarke, Sue Gall, Wendy Nolan & Joan Sargood
Coming in to land with the Sheans Creek hills in the backdrop. Many Hands Make Light Work, well, Lighter, anyway! The turf was laid last Thursday by a team of 25 eager Rotarians. The job was done in no time!
Telegraph Park is now really taking shape and will be officially opened on April 27 followed by an afternoon tea.
