The wait is over. The Nike Elite 51 Uniform for all 32 clubs was revealed to the world this week. With the well-known athletic supplier officially debuting team gear over the weekend, all that was left to show was the sleek uniforms to be worn for the 2012 season. The most visible change to the 49ers uniforms under Nike s watch is the inclusion of Flywire technology on the uniform collar. According to Nikeinc.com, the technology reduces weight and provides a better fit over shoulder pads. Other adjustments to the design include slight changes to the sleeve stripes where Nike has created a horizontal orientation to the field of play. It goes with the Nike s focus on increasing a player s range of motion. The striping on the uniform pants also utilizes more breathable materials. Still, even after all the new lightweight fabrics that are being introduced to the sideline in 2012, the team s traditional look remains. In fact, 2012 marks the first time in club history that Nike will make the official game uniforms. A pre-sale for the uniforms will take place on shop49ers.com at 12:01 AM ET on April 15. uniform. Back to the big reveal, the NFL introduced players from all 32 teams early Tuesday morning at a Brooklyn fashion show. Alex Smith was on hand to represent the 49ers and even conducted a few interviews afterwards while wearing his home For those looking for all the insight on Nike s uniform lingo, NikeInc.com offers a uniform fact sheet. With Smith being included in the league s uniform showcase, the Nike-sponsored athlete was also featured in the marketing imagery on Nike Football s Facebook page.

Hometown: Fremont, CA What did you want to be when you grew up? A professional wrestler. I thought it would be neat to parade around in different outfits in front of a big crowd. Perhaps that is why I was drawn to football at a young age as well. Years with the team: I am entering my 4 th season in the fall. What do you do for the 49ers? I oversee the 49ers youth sports programs. This includes managing the Play60 initiatives and making sure the program stays consistent. I also assist the Community Relations department with player appearances in the community. We have a large Youth Football truck that travels to local schools and kids can participate in Gatorade Jr. Training Camps for their PE class. What did you study in school? I earned a degree in Kinesiology (the study of human movement) with an emphasis in Physical Education. How did that help you get this job? My education gave me background knowledge and experience in health and fitness, which is a big part of my job. What s your favorite part about working for the 49ers? Being out in the community and having the opportunity to positively affect youth and teach them the game of football. What advice would you give someone who wants to work in sports? Do it. Look for opportunities to get involved with your favorite sport. There are all sorts of ways to participate. Talking to a coach or someone already involved is a great way to get started. Do you have any funny experiences with a 49ers player? One time I walked back to my desk and Sourdough Sam was sitting in my seat, on the phone. To this day I still don t know who he was calling. And lastly: When I was interviewing for the job, I sat in front of former 49ers players that I had watched on TV as a kid. That was a really cool experience.
