Featuring an array of activities for children ages 4 through 17, the schedule includes yearround favorites such as Family Art Night and Teen Arts Academy, as well as the seasonal Thursday Summer Fun. For Children Ages 13 17 TEEN ARTS ACADEMY Shaping Expression: A Sculpture Workshop Saturday, August 11, 1:00 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, August 12, 1:00 4:00 p.m. Join artist and educator Roderick Smith as he explores the expressive power of sculpture in this two-day workshop. Participants are introduced to a selection of the Museum s 20th-century sculptures and discover how artists use three-dimensional forms to convey emotional and aesthetic values. Following the discussion, Smith leads a workshop in which participants are encouraged to use symbols and abstract elements to create their own works of art in clay. About the Norton Simon Museum The Norton Simon Museum is known around the world as one of the most remarkable private art collections ever assembled. Over a 30-year period, industrialist Norton Simon (1907 1993) amassed an astonishing collection of European art from the Renaissance to the 20th century, and a stellar collection of South and Southeast Asian art spanning 2,000 years. Modern and Contemporary Art from Europe and the United States, acquired by the former Pasadena Art Museum, also occupies an important place in the Museum s collections. The Museum houses more than 12,000 objects, roughly 1,000 of which are on view in the galleries and gardens.
