Good Night Little Fishy By Margy Spradling Palette: DecoArt Americana Acrylics Canyon Orange # 13238 Deep Midnight Blue # 13166 Indian Turquoise # 13087 Sapphire # 13099 Sour Apple # 13265 Turquoise Blue # 13258 Warm White #13239 Watermelon Slice # 13557 Yellow Light # 13144 DecoArt Neons Torrid Orange # 18017 Surface: Shaded Nightlight #70700 Misc. Supplies: DecoArt DuraClear Varnish Gloss #87393 DecoArt Drying Time Extender #83131 Optional Wine Cork, Pencil Eraser (the kind that fits on the end of a pencil) Brushes: Papillon by the Artist s Club Glaze Wash, size 3/4 #20102 Angular Shader, size 3/8 # 20110 Liner, size 10/0 # 20145 Finish Brush Set #20170 Pattern at 100% 1 x 1 To ensure your pattern is at 100%, this box should measure 1 x 1 when printed. Preparation: Use an appropriate size brush for the area being painted. Basecoat the design area with Deep Midnight Blue. Use a small paring knife to dig out small craters in the end of the wine cork. Set aside. On your palette, mix some Drying Time Extender (about a nickel size puddle with the same amount of paint) with Indian Turquoise, Sapphire and Turquoise Blue. Using the cork, stamp it into the paint and extender mix, one color at a time, and stamp on your surface. Repeat with each of the 3 colors. Stamp closely and rotate the cork to allow for a random pattern. The use of the Extender Medium will allow you some extra time to stamp the entire surface with each color allow some of the Deep Midnight Blue to show through. You are looking for a random mix of the 4 colors to give the illusion of water. Set aside and let dry thoroughly. If you do not have a cork, you can always use a sponge or crinkled up stiff paper to create the background. Painting Instructions: Transfer the pattern lines and basecoat as follows: Yellow Light main body of fish 3

Torrid Orange back and tail of fish. Add fins later after shading main areas. Shade the main body with Sour Apple. Shade the back part of the body and the tail with Canyon Orange. Use the line brush and add the stripes and spot on tail with Watermelon Slice. Base the fins with Torrid Orange, shade with Canyon Orange. Using Warm White add a dot to the eye. Using the pencil eraser, dip into the paint (Torrid Orange, Watermelon Slice, Yellow Light, and lastly Warm White) and create bubbles. These should be mainly coming from the fish s mouth, but also can be randomly placed throughout the background for added interest. If you do not have a pencil tip eraser you can always use the liner brush and paint the bubbles. Finishing: Allow to dry thoroughly and finish with DuraClear Varnish Gloss. 4
