V3 = MODERATE VARIATION V3 = MODERATE VARIATION: While the colors present on a single piece of tile will be indicative of the colors to be expected on the other tiles, the amount of colors on each piece may vary significantly. For example that little bit of color on one piece of tile may be the primary color on the next piece.

V4 = RANDOM VARIATION V4 = RANDOM VARIATION: Random color differences from tile to tile, so that one tile may have totally different colors from that on other tiles. Thus, the final installation will be unique.

CTDA Color Shade Variation Guide V1 V2 V3 V4 COLOR SHADE VARIATIONS The color shade or shades of all tile varies some degree from piece to piece, from each production run to run. At least several pieces from the same production run should be reviewed whenever possible to determine acceptable color shade variations. Any questions or concerns about your tile selection should be clarified prior to installation. V1 = UNIFORM APPEARANCE: Differences among pieces from the same production run are minimal. V2 = SLIGHT VARIATION: Clearly distinguishable differences in texture and/or pattern within similar colors. V3 = MODERATE VARIATION: While the colors present on a single piece of tile will be indicative of the colors to be expected on the other tiles, the amount of colors on each piece may vary significantly. For example that little bit of color on one piece of tile may be the primary color on the next piece. V4 = RANDOM VARIATION: Random color differences from tile to tile, so that one tile may have totally different colors from that on other tiles. Thus, the final installation will be unique.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE 1. Determine how much variation is present in your tile. This is best accomplished by laying out several pieces from multiple cartons. Once the tile is laid out, these are the key indicators to placing the tile in a shade category. V1 Each piece has the same texture, color, shade and pattern with only minimal and insignificant variation from tile to tile. V2 While the texture, color and shade may move around somewhat from tile to tile, the general appearance from tile to tile is quite similar. V3 The texture, color and shade may change considerably from tile to tile, thus, the tile may not appear similar from piece to piece. However, all the colors present in a single tile will be present to some degree in all of the tiles. V4 Random color differences from tile to tile, so that one tile many have totally different colors from that on other tiles. These tiles cannot be selected by the consumer off of just one or two pieces. 2. Label each tile sample that is on display in your showroom with clear labels marked with the V1-V4 indicators. 3. Show the buyer the CTDA Color Shade Variation Guide and photographs indicating what type of variation can be expected. 4. Have the buyer sign the approval form to verify that it has been informed and approves of the type of variation that can be expected. 5. For V4 Tile Only Due to the amount of variation within each run and from run to run, we recommend showing the consumer the shade they will be receiving prior to installation. 6. Communicate this new program to your warehouse and showroom personnel. Take the time to set up the system well in the beginning and the end result will be an enormous amount of time and money saved.
