CLASS TIMETABLE - Year 2018 OVERLOCKING CLASSES Overlocking Class 1 - Beginner s to Intermediate Full Day This class is open to all models of overlockers providing that it has a rolled hem capability and is a four thread. During this class you will create a bag suitable to fit an ipad or similar with your overlocker using 3 or 4 thread overlocking, narrow hemming and flatlock stitching. Along the way you will become more confident with threading, changing threads and setting tensions. This is a great class for anyone who has just purchased an overlocker or anyone who feels a little nervous about the operation of their overlocker. DAY CLASS Thursday February 15th 9.30am 4.00pm OR Thursday May 10 th 9.30am 4.00pm OR Thursday July 12th 9.30am 4.00pm Class Fee = $40.00 + fabric and supplies will be required. Tutor Linda Overlocking Class 2 - Intermediate to Advanced Full Day Overlocking Class 1 must be completed before attending Class 2 (or be fairly experienced with using an Overlocker already) as it is necessary to have basic threading and handling skills. This class takes your overlocker to the next level and explores the use of a cording foot to attach cord using a rolled hem stitch, the gathering attachment to create frills, flatlocking, elastic attachment and piping foot. A designer carry bag will be the project. Please note: if you own a model other than a Janome you will need to supply certain feet/attachments as outlined in the supply list. Janome owners may borrow these during class please provide your model details. DAY Thursday June 21st 9.30am 4.30pm Class Fee = $40.00 + materials will be required. Tutor Linda Overlocking KNIT Class Full Day Choose between either McCall s pattern 7122 (dress) or Simplicity 1062 (top) and create entirely using your overlocker. Learn how to pick the correct type of knit fabric for your pattern, a little about sizing and different hem finishes that can be achieved with an overlocker. For example; a chiffon piece of fabric can be overlocked to the bottom and then rolled hemmed. Have fun with your fabric choices, different colours for the sleeves etc. DAY Thursday April 19 th 9.30am 4.00pm OR Thursday August 23rd 9.30am 4.00pm Class Fee = $40.00 + $10 for the pattern (special price) + materials will be required. 1
SEWING MACHINE CLASSES Sewing Machine Class over 2 Days Project = Machine Cover This class is particularly suited to Janome computerised machines and will allow you to learn more about the features that your machine has such as the needle up/down button, lock button, memory function, fancy stitches/lettering, walking foot system and general use. You will be encouraged to ask lots of questions during the class so that you will finish the class feeling more confident in using your machine and be inspired to be even more creative! DAY Thursday August 9 th & Thursday August 16th 9.30am 4.30pm Both Days Class Fee = $59 + you will be required to supply fabrics, notions and threads. Tutor Linda Sewing Machine Class over 2 Days Creative Fabric Manipulation and 3D Applique Box Fabric manipulation is the art of sewing fabric by machine to create folds, tucks, embellishment and texture. This class will include pleating using two different methods, stuffed applique and 3D applique. The embellished pieces will form the sides of the box. Tutor Linda Sewing Machine Class Create a Simple Cushion This class will give you the basic skills required to make a standard cushion and will include sewing an invisible zipper and piping cord. Ideas will be also discussed on what techniques/embellishments can be used to decorate any future cushions. DAY Thursday June 14 th 10am 2.30pm Class Fee = $20 + you will be required to supply fabrics, notions and threads. Tutor Linda Learning More about Your Machine These classes are designed for customers who have perhaps just recently purchased a sewing machine and still getting to know it or for anyone just wishing to learn more about their model. The classes will be split into different levels of models to make it easier to teach and have comparable machines in the one class. If you are unsure which class your machine model fits into please ask the staff here at the shop. A little simple project will be created during the class but this will be precut and provided for you within the class fee. 2

These sessions will be most suited for beginners to intermediate level however, all skill levels are most welcome. Begins May 4 th Friday Mornings 9.30am 12.30pm May 4 th, May 11 th, May 18 th, May 25 th, June 1 st, June 8 th, June 15 th, June 22 nd, June 29 th Cost = $6 per session + you will be required to supply your own yarn, pattern etc. You may book up front for the whole 9 weeks and pay only $45 OR $6 per session (as you attend). PATCHWORK CLASSES ENCOMPASSING STARS 2 DAY CLASS DESCRIPTION A two day class for all skill levels teaches a unique approach to drafting accurate and beautiful stars easily using my special STARWHIZ tool (included in class kit.) Finally drafting these stars can be FUN instead of technically stressful. This class includes pattern and template making for any shape star, with plain or split rays, multiple centres and optional methods for setting stars in background. Instructions are covered on paper, machine or hand piecing. Overlapping stars, stars within stars, off centred stars and other tool use to create odd number rays are some of the techniques explored in this class. Simple oval star drafting, exploring the limits of miniatures, and novelty fabrics will be discussed. TRICKS OF THE TRADE INTRO CLASS DESCRIPTION - A ONE DAY CLASS FOR ALL SKILL LEVELS This class was developed for those who want to learn new skills or brush up on the essentials. A fantastic class for beginners. Basic principles of cutting and piecing for the beginner to learn and for more experienced quilters to review, perhaps picking up some new or alternative methods for that finer more professional finished look. This class will cover maintaining an accurate ¼ inch seam, curved piecing, set in seams and accurate half-square and quarter square triangles, flying geese and strip quilting. Rotary cutting techniques using angles on Quilter s Rulers including creating a La Moyne Star. March Saturday 17 th 9.30am 4.30pm Class Fee = $49 Includes comprehensive notes Plus fabrics and other notions required you will receive a list prior to class Tutor = Debby Williams General Patchwork Classes Choose your own project/s and receive help from a staff member experienced in quilting and patchwork each step as required. CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS Classes for children 12 years and under Zip Pouch Learn some of the basics including simple cutting, fusing interfacing, sewing straight lines and stitching a zipper. The pouch is also lined with a shower proof material to make it easier to clean. This is a good sized bag and could be used for lots of different things. Classes for children 12 years and under Elasticated Skirt Learn how to read a simple pattern, cut, sew, hem and insert elastic for the waistband. If time permits we shall also add some decorative stitching or similar to the bottom. Classes for Teenagers Patchwork Bag The front of this bag involves sewing strips of fabric onto a base (we used denim) to create a unique bag of your choice. Lots of straight line sewing, fully lined and also includes a buttonhole and button closure. Classes for Teenagers Knit Dress This easy pattern is sewn entirely on the overlocker so a little experience using an overlocker would be advantageous. Learn how to read a simple pattern, cut a knit fabric and overlock together.
