Call fr prpsals BUDGET LINE: 3922 BACKGROUND: The mdernisatin f existing GNSS cnstellatins and the arrival f new GNSS systems have increased the number f bands t be cvered by GNSS antennas. Bth the mass market and the prfessinal applicatins will benefit f the imprvement in psitining and navigatin perfrmances derived frm this multi-frequency cncept, bringing the need fr antennas that can supprt a wider bandwidth. Users grups frm different GNSS markets have particular needs, such as peratinal requirements, regulatins r envirnmental cnditins. Enabling multi-frequency capabilities requires the antenna t cpe with, n ne hand, higher bandwidth requirements and n the ther hand with the cnstraints impsed by the platfrm n which the antenna perates. Advances in antenna design enable the emergence f multipurpse antennas, able t cperate with varius type f receivers and t be used in hetergeneus applicatins and market segments. This may maximise in this way the advantages f the ecnmies f scale. Enabling multipurpse capabilities requires cping with different user needs and allwing a smth integratin with very hetergeneus platfrms and receivers. Objectives pursued and freseen results: 1

Galile Explitatin 2018 Grant Plan 4. Enhanced RX fr autnmus driving/navigatin (GEX.0220) LEGAL BASIS Regulatin (EU) N 1285/2013 f the Eurpean Parliament and f the Cuncil f 11 December 2013 n the implementatin and explitatin f Eurpean satellite navigatin systems and repealing Cuncil Regulatin (EC) N 876/2002 and Regulatin (EC) N 683/2008 f the Eurpean Parliament and f the Cuncil and Delegatin Agreement between the Eurpean Unin, represented by the Eurpean Cmmissin and the Eurpean GNSS Agency n the Explitatin Phase f the Galile Prgramme signed n 2 Octber 2014. Call fr prpsals BUDGET LINE: 3922 BACKGROUND: Within the cntext f rad transprtatin, safety-critical applicatins are defined as thse applicatins that pssess the ptential t, directly r indirectly, avid causing harm t humans, destrying the vehicle r damaging external prperty r the envirnment. Autnmus driving and cperative psitining are bth included in this grup. Autnmus driving and cnnected vehicles are the mst relevant trends in the autmtive sectr, which rely n accurate and reliable psitining infrmatin. Driving autmatin is increasing ver time and the full autmatin (Level 5) will sn becme reality, thanks t psitining and cmmunicatin technlgies. Vehicles cnnectivity is als part f this prcess, making a large amunt f infrmatin available t the vehicles and thus imprving the achievable psitining perfrmance. Future psitining techniques are therefre expected t deviate frm the traditinal way f prviding psitining infrmatin (i.e. multiple sensrs data including expensive radar/lidar-based sensr and cameras). Innvative psitining, based n high speed cnnectivity (e.g. 5G), vehicle-t-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-t-infrastructure (V2I) cmmunicatin enabling the sharing f large amunt f infrmatin and the explitatin f relative psitining will be specifically designed fr autmtive applicatins. GNSS-based psitining, including ptimised algrithms making an efficient use f PPP and RTK (r a cmbinatin f the tw) and the explitatin f wide-band signals, are increasingly used fr getting the required psitining accuracy and integrity necessary fr safety-critical applicatins. In additin new signals prviding higher chip rate already enabled better multipath mitigatin, which is necessary t supprt such peratins in urban envirnment. In this cntext Galile with its differentiatrs plays an imprtant rle and, when used in a hybridised technlgy mix integrated with ther sensrs, it can further bst the technlgies fr safe autnmus cars. 10

The receiver OBU shall leverage the E-GNSS differentiatrs. This may include, in additin t duble-frequency E1/E5 r triple-frequency E1/E5/E6, the wide band E5 AltBOC, the use f pilt signals, the Open Service Navigatin Message Authenticatin (OS-NMA), the use f Precise-Pint-Psitining (PPP, (e.g. frm the Galile cmmercial service) and in general the ptimal explitatin f the Galile full peratinal capability (i.e. full cnstellatin deplyment). The develped receiver OBU shall be cst efficient and shall be cmpliant with the specific applicatin cnstraints. Descriptin f the activities t be funded under the call fr prpsals: The call fr prpsals is intended t fund up t tw (2) prjects with the fllwing activities: Design, develpment, testing and demnstratin f dual- r multi-frequency GNSS OBU fr fully autnmus driving and/r cperative psitining t be embedded n autnmus vehicles.
