ALBERTA CULTURE DAYS In 2015, thousands of Albertans discovered and celebrated our arts, heritage and cultural diversity with almost 900 events in over 70 communities across the province. Culture Days 2016, will continue to play a key role in connecting people and communities. Saturday Oct 1 10 AM to 2 PM Demo and Talk 30 minutes at 10, 11 AM and 1 PM Green Room Leather Carving Rod Lachmuth Join Calgary artist Rod Lachmuth in this Leather Carving demo and mini-workshop in the Pottery Studio, he will demonstrate the process of giving a three-dimensional appearance to leather craft objects by cutting and stamping the surface. Saturday and Sunday, Oct 1 & 2 11AM to 3 PM Demo and Talk 20 minutes at the start of every hour Pottery Studio Pottery Malory Eagles Come try your hand at throwing a vessel on a pottery wheel with potter Mallory Eagles as she demonstrates how to work with clay to create functional vases and bowls. Encaustic Painting Sharon Lynn Williams Try something new this weekend and try your hand at encaustic painting with Calgary artist Sharon Lynn Williams. This hot wax painting technique involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added and painted onto wood. Sunday, Oct 2 1-4 PM Green Room Watercolour Painting Rex Beanland If you still haven t tried watercolour, then now is the time to come and watch well-known Calgary artist Rex Beanland as he demonstrates his watercolour painting techniques. Pick up a brush and try it yourself! Sunday, Oct 2 10 AM - 2 PM Demo and Talk 1 PM Main Gallery Saori Weaving Ann Picavet Originally from Japan, Saori is hand weaving that emphasises creativity and free expression. Participate in this informal community art-making project by drawing your unique perception of the Foothills landscape. TALKS & LECTURES Members of The Alberta Society of Artists will talk about its 85-year trajectory and the meaning behind Bridges. Join artist Lisa Brawn, for a talk about Helios and follow her on the path to discover this solar powered installation. A.C. Leighton founded the ASA. Historian, writer and curator, Nancy Townshend will shed light on the early years of A.C. s career.
