3.7 Spares MiMOMax linking products are highly complex devices. Most parts are not customer serviceable* and many of the large scale integration devices are very susceptible to electrostatic damage. Although highly modular in construction, it is not recommended that individual sub-modules or circuit boards be replaced in the field, as alignment relies on experienced technicians with the appropriate test equipment. A more successful field replacement strategy is recommended for terminal swap out and re-configuration that provides the lowest possible time to repair (TTR) and highest operational reliability. It is recommended that complete spare modules (such as radio modem), are kept as spares at between 2-5% of installed base depending on location. Please note that the spares recommendations applies to all product components, including RUs, Interface Cards, External Power Supplies (if any), and Antennas. 3.7.1 Recommended Spares Installed Links Spares on Site <50 Radio Modems 2 Spare Units 50-75 Radio Modems 3 Spare Units 75-100 Radio Modems 4 Spare Units 100-150 Radio Modems 5 Spare Units >150 Units 6 Spare Units * Please refer to the Services section for recommendations on which products are customer replaceable and which products should be replaced off field. 4.1 Software Feature Enablers (SFEs) 4 Product Software (Via MiMOMax Configuration Control & Monitoring Software (CCMS) Basic RU pricing is kept to a minimum by pricing additional software features individually. MiMOMax SFEs are optional advanced software features for enhancing the performance of a standard MiMOMax radio. These are easily configured via MiMOMax CCMS; web-based network management software that allows easy and secure access to radio configuration, calibration and alarm functions having three optional operational modes: Local, Remote (through the local Ethernet port) and Remote Over-The-Air. 4.1.1 Tasks that can be performed via CCMS Changing Passwords Monitoring Radio Performance Configuring Radio Link Configuring SNMP Editing RF Modem Parameters (incl. Sync. Serial) Changing IP Settings of MiMOMax Radios Synchronous Serial Parameters Performing Software Upgrades Enabling/ Disabling SFEs Programming Power Levels and Frequency Preparing Radio Settings Back-up Description of MiMOMax SFEs follows in the table below: 4.1.2 Software Feature Enablers via CCMS SFE Description Local CCMS This allows local access to the CCMS web application, via the Ethernet port of the local radio modem link. The application is password protected and allows restricted control of the local radio modem. Remote CCMS/ Over-the-Air Configuration (OTAC) Normally the CCMS web application is only accessible via the local Ethernet port of the radio and not via over-the-air link (WAN). However, with Remote CCMS enabled, CCMS is accessible via both the local Ethernet port and over-the-air link. This allows remote Over-the Air-Configuration (OTAC) of the remote link end, and often eliminates the need to travel to both radio sites. Remote CCMS includes local CCMS. Over-the-Air Programming (OTAP) OTAP allows the user to perform complete software and database updates or upgrades remotely via the RU link. When this feature is enabled, the operating and application software can be upgraded over-the-air. OTAP includes OTAC SFE plus local CCMS. Should an error occur during the re-programming process, the radios will revert to the last known working version of the software and will be able to re-establish the link. Without this feature, the software and database on the radio can only be updated or upgraded locally via the wired Ethernet port. SNMP Support MiMOMax radios can be accessed via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for network monitoring purposes. The radio can also send various traps or notifications via SNMP to a configured SNMP manager on the network. MiMOMax do not provide SNMP clients, as this product is designed to interoperate with generic SNMP clients. Note: SNMP integration can be provided at MiMOMax s standard charges for engineering design services. DNP3 Support Terminal Server MiMOMax radios can now be accessed via DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol version 3.0) for network monitoring purposes. DNP3 is an open protocol used primarily to communicate between RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) and SCADA master stations (aka Control Centres). It is a highly robust, flexible and interoperable communications protocol, now widely used in electric, water, oil & gas, traffic management and similar industrial applications. Various DNP3 points can be added/removed easily using MiMOMax CCMS (Configuration Control & Monitoring System) depending on the user's monitoring needs. CCMS is web-based software, built into all MiMOMax radios for local and remote radio configuration and programming. Using DNP3, MiMOMax radio can also be configured to have unsolicited events enabled/disabled by default. The implementation is fully compliant with DNP 3.0 Subset Definition Level 3 and contains significant functionality beyond Subset Level 3. DNP3 has been adopted by Substation Committee of the IEEE Power Society (1379-2000) as a recommended practice for implementing SCADA Master- RTU/IED communication links. The Terminal Server allows equipment that has up to two RS-232 ports*, for example serial RTUs, to be connected to MiMOMax radios. The Terminal Server packs the serial data into IP packets for transport across IP networks. *Please note the terminal server only supports the MiMOMax NDL & MDL. M-CAM (MiMOMax Cognizant Adaptive Modulation) M-CAM is MiMOMax s proprietary smart adaptive modulation scheme, designed to optimise the data throughput, while simultaneously maintaining the radio link in adverse conditions. It achieves this by adapting the RU modulation scheme depending on the measured quality of the received signal. It transverses from QPSK through to the maximum modulation scheme available and vice versa, depending on the RU channel conditions. In some circumstances, this may not be desirable (e.g. Synchronous data where fixed latency is required). If this feature is disabled, the RU modulation logic will stay fixed to the modulation scheme set, independent of signal quality. M-DAP (MiMOMax Data Acceleration Protocols) MiMOMax Data Acceleration Protocols (M-DAP) is designed to enhance VoIP and other real-time applications. M-DAP achieves a significant increase in capacity and quality by the following mechanisms: Header compression of: Ethernet IP UDP TCP RTP (Real Time Protocol) Quality of Service (QoS) Payload compression Traffic Classifier This is a unique power saving feature, which promptly turns on (<100ms link establishment time) the remote end of a radio unit transmitter only when there is data to be transmitted between RUs. The M-PoD is specifically designed for the NDL. M-PoD (MiMOMax Power On Demand Link) This feature is suited to remote sites where power consumption is an issue. It also supports cascaded links. M-PoD automatically and rapidly turns on the transmitter by promptly keying it up from idle mode in typically 80 ms to enable over-the-link data transmission. Once it is completed, the M-PoD ensures that the transmitter will stay active for a programmable time period between 1 and 255 seconds. During this time, the M-PoD confirms that all data is processed before automatically deactivating the transmitter. The stand-by power consumption in idle mode is typically 8 W. MiMOMax also offers low power options for links that have to run continuously on shorter paths thereby further reducing the power consumption to less than 55W @ + 26 dbm and less than 40W @ + 23 dbm power output. M-RAP is an optional suite of protocols that provide dynamic routing. This allows communications to continue in the event of a failure if alternate communication links exist. Protocols include: M-RAP (MiMOMax Routing Adaptation Protocols) OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) is used at a WAN level to determine the shortest path between two sites. OSPF selects an alternate path if and when a communications link fail thereby ensuring that communication continues. VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) is used at a LAN level to ensure that devices on that LAN have redundant local gateways. In the event of a failure, the remaining MiMOMax routers elect a new default gateway to ensure that devices on the local network continue to communicate with the WAN GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) is used to transfer OSPF monitoring statistics to a central monitoring server. M-SEC (MiMOMax Security) Nitro Boost This feature enhances the critical communications network security by providing Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI); a software-based firewall that is programmed to distinguish legitimate packets for different types of connections. It only allows access to data packets that match a known active connection. Unlike stateless firewall that has no memory of previous packets, Stateful firewall holds significant attributes of each connection. Therefore, it is highly secure against spoofing attacks while offering network administrators finer-grained control of network traffic. Furthermore, the anti-lockout feature prevents the administrator from configuring firewall rules in a way that will lock him out of the web interface. With a predetermined set of rules, M-SEC optional security feature assists the network user in securely managing the webadministered devices. This allows the RU modulation logic to go up to the full 256QAM, boosting data throughput to reach a customer data rate of up to 256kbps in 25 khz channel bandwidth (raw data rate of 320kbit/sec). Out-Station Licenses Diversity Enabled (future option) This software enables a Base Station (BRU), to support a specified number of Remote Radio (RRU) Out-Stations. The number of RRU licensed, is dependent on the application requirements (for example; 10, 20, 25 supported RRUs). Diversity software enabler provides license for the 0x2 Diversity Receivers (Rx) to function, which enables additional Receiver Diversity within a link. The 0x2 MiMO Receiver provides additional Spatial Diversity and therefore, better reception and lower probability for data loss under severe fading conditions.
