Your Accordion Strip Door has been custom built to your specifications. Those specifications should be clearly marked on the cover of these installation instructions. We highly recommend that the unit be mounted on the interior side of the doorway opening, basically to keep the mechanism out of the weather. PVC STRIP PLACEMENT After the assembled unit has been mounted using one of the 3 mounting methods, the PVC strips must be attached to the Accordion Assembly. MOUNTING METHODS There are 3 different mounting methods that can be used: Wall Mount, Header Mount and Overhead Bracket Mount.... and each of Wall Mount Header Mount Overhead Door Mount these allows the door to be pulled to One Side or Bi-Part. One Side Bi-Parting First, remove each Retaining Bar from the each Mounting Strip by unscrewing the nuts from the studs. NOTE: There are 2 nut/bolt combinations in the center of each strip. Then place the PVC Strips onto the studs. Replace the Retaining Strips and fasten with the nuts. With all the PVC Strips in place, your Save-T Accordion Strip Door is complete. OVERHEAD DOOR MOUNTING Opening to One Side and Bi-Parting Your Overhead Door Bracket has been shipped with the Sliding Track Hangers already attached to the Support Tube. First, bolt the Support Tube to the Mounting Brackets using the mounting bolts, washers and nuts. IMPORTANT: The hangers must be face down. NOTE: There are left and right brackets. WALL MOUNTING SHELVING or WALL PULL RIGHT TO CLOSE PULL LEFT TO CLOSE Bi-Parting Door SHELVING or WALL With this method the strip door is attached to the wall just above the doorway opening. A Bi-Parting Door is generally used because there are obstructions on both sides of the doorway opening or there is a desire to keep one half of the doorway closed while traffic moves through the opening. Next, attach the back Brace Tube to the Mounting Brackets. The method of attachment is your choice. One way is to drill holes and use nuts, bolt & washers; another is welding. We have given you this option because each door rail placement is different. BACK BRACE TUBE With Multiple Sliding Tracks or Single Sliding Track: To begin mounting, refer to steps 1 through 5 on pages 2 & 3. IMPORTANT: After the holes are drilled and before attaching the unit to the wall, both Accordion Assemblies should be placed into the Then, mount the End Strips of PVC to the brackets. PVC END STRIPS Next, place the assembled unit against the wall above the doorway opening. With the bottom of each PVC End Strip approximately 1 / 2 from the floor, level the unit and mark the mounting holes on the 2 Mounting Brackets. Remove the unit and drill the marked holes with the proper size drill. This is determined by the material used in the construction of the wall. If it s wood, lag screws can be used. If it s concrete or concrete blocks, anchored lag screws will be necessary. If the header is a steel plate, the hangers can be attached by welding. WOOD CONCRETE or CONCRETE BLOCK STEEL Place each unit so the Anchor Bar is toward the end of the track and the Magnetic Brake & Pull Rope Roller is toward the center of the rail. Attach each anchor bar to the sliding track using the end stops, anchor bolts and anchor nuts. (See page 4 ) Once the Anchor Bars are fastened to either end of the track, the assembly now can be attached to the wall. CAUTION: Do not remove the protective wrapping before placing assembly into To complete the installation, attach the flexible PVC strips to the Accordion Assembly, see page 11. 8 5
MOUNTING OVERHEAD DOOR COVER Once the Overhead Door Bracket, Accordion Assembly and Side Strips are in place and secured, the PVC cover should be placed over the top of the entire unit to create a substantial ambient air barrier. NOTE: The method of applying the cover, described here, is quite general since each overhead door and door rail configuration is different for each manufacturer. INSIDE BRACE PLATE DOOR RAIL PVC COVER AVelcro strip should already be attached to the top of the Support Tube. However, the supplied pressure sensitive Velcro will have to be attached to the top of each Bracket and the Back Brace Tube, as well as the corresponding areas on the cover itself. VELCRO PLACEMENT VELCRO VELCRO 10 Measure and cut both sides of the PVC cover accordingly, to accommodate the overhead door rail and inside brace plate on the Bracket. Use a utility knife. The bottom edge of the hanger plate should line up with the edge or lip of the header. CONCRETE or CONCRETE BLOCK MARK HOLES Move each of the hangers slightly left or right, so the hanger will be attached to a firm portion of the wall. Mark all the hanger plate holes. Remove the unit and drill the marked holes with the proper size drill. This is determined by the material used in the construction of the header. If it s wood, lag screws can be used. If it s concrete or concrete blocks, anchored lag screws will be necessary. If the header is a steel plate, the hangers can be attached by welding. After the holes are drilled, attach the unit to the wall. STEEL LIP OF HEADER HANGER PLATE 4 For Bi-Parting Doors, skip to WALL MOUNTING - Bi-Parting, page 5) The next step is placing the Accordion Assembly into the First, you must determine which side of the mechanism will be anchored to the sliding track and to which side the strip door will be drawn. If there are no obstructions, either side can be used. However, if there is an obstruction close to the edge of the doorway opening, such as a wall or shelving, it would be best to anchor the mechanism to that side. 3
