Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 2 Warnings & Safety Instructions Always use the sensor with a hygienic barrier. Change of barrier between each patient. After each patient, the RVG 6100 sensor must be thoroughly disinfected. Remove the hygienic protective sheath and thoroughly clean the sensor with a disinfecting wipe. Never immerse the connector located on the other end of the cable, nor the remote control Never place the sensor and/or remote control in an autoclave as this could result in serious damage to the system. The cable needs to be cleaned with precaution. We recommend the use of a disinfecting wipe. Hold the sensor in one hand, with the other run the wipe from the end of the sensor over the first 20 centimeters of the cable WITHOUT PULLING on the cable insulation. The wipe must slide without forcing it; the pinch of the cable between the fingers must be MINIMAL. 2 Precautions for use of the sensor! Never place the sensor in a sterilizer or autoclave allow the sensor to fall pull on the cable, even when removing the disposable protective sheath roll or walk on the cable request the patient to bite on the sensor or the cable disconnect the sensor during the 90 second delay (in non-synchronized mode) or during acquisition force the cable at the sensor side (bend, pull) immerse the remote control nor the connector located on the other end of the cable

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 3 Acquiring an image 1 Open the patient file in Kodak Dental Imaging Software. To launch an RVG image acquisition, click RVG Acquisition on the toolbar. Check that the RVG icon in your toolbar is red. If the icon is not red, check that the sensor is properly connected to the computer. If not, disconnect and reconnect the RVG sensor. 2 Cover the sensor with a disposable sheath and place the sensor on the applicable positioner. 3

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 4 3 Select the timer parameters for your generator. The table below provides you with guidelines for exposure times for an average generator at 70 kv and 8 ma. These are approximative values. Adjust the values for your specific generator. 4 Adult with RVG #1 or #2 Suggested times 0.18 0.24 0.40 0.12 0.18 0.24 Your preferences Child with RVG # 0 Suggested times 0.11 0.15 0.24 0.075 0.11 0.15 For patient comfort, position the generator near to the patient s head so that the patient does not wait too long with the sensor in the mouth. Your preferences Tips! Use the dose indicator to correctly determine the exposure time for your generator. If the image is too dark or if the dose indicator is displayed in red and towards the right of the band, reduce the exposure settings If the image is too light or if the dose indicator is red and towards the right of the band, increase the exposure settings If the dose indicator is displayed in green and anywhere in the middle of the band, the exposure is correct.

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 5 4 Position the sensor and its positioner in the patient s mouth. NOTE For more details on the type of positioners, see further in Different positioning systems.in the User s Guide. For a mandibular image: 1 Have the patient draw the tongue towards the back of the mouth. Insert the sensor holding it horizontally. 2 Then turn the sensor downward to place it in a vertical position. 3 Center the sensor on the targeted tooth slide it distally, and ask the patient to push the tongue to the opposite side. Do not hesitate to compress the mucous membranes to properly frame the apical area. The patient can then relax the tongue, to allow the sensor to fit naturally. For premolars and incisors, move the sensor towards the center of the mouth by compressing the tongue when the mouth closes to relax the muscles. For a maxillary image: 1 Insert the sensor, maintaining it horizontally. 2 Turn the sensor upward so that it is vertical or parallel to the axis of the targeted tooth. 3 Center the sensor on the tooth to be X-rayed by sliding it distally. Do not hesitate to use the roundness of the palatal arch and place the sensor at the center of the cavity. 5

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 6 5 Position the beam indicated device as close as possible to the patient. 6 Activate the sensor. The sensor activation can be done by : a- either clicking on the RVG icon on the software toolbar b- or pressing on F2 on the keyboard c- or using the button on the sensor remote control. The RVG icon will turn into green You can also orientate the image before acquisition. By default, the image displays vertically as if an image of a tooth from the lower dental arch was acquired. You now have 90 seconds to take the X-ray image. 6 7 Trigger the X-ray emission. The image will automatically be displayed on your computer screen.

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 7 Enhancing the digital image The RVG digital images contains a vast quantity of information. To explore the images fully, use the tools in teh Kodak dental imaging software. Filters and main tools Image contrast Managing image contrast The contrasts can be managed, after image acquisition, in a simple and automatic way using the Perio, Endo and DEJ buttons to enhance the different zones of interest. Perio Endo Dentine-Enamel Junction 7

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 8 Using the filters and main tools Sharpness filter: to emphasize a radiological feature that could go unnoticed in the pure image (lateral ducts or small fissures). To confirm the interpretation, always remove the Sharpness Filter and use a contrast tool such as the Highlight. Sharpness Filter Highlight tool: to reinforce contrasts locally (useful for investigating interproximal caries and detecting caries and fracture). To use this tool, click on the icon, then click and hold the mouse button on the image. Highlight Tool Relief filter: can be used to distinguish and compare between similar shades of grey. Relief Filter Measurement tool: to calculate the distance between points in the images. Calibrate the tool before measuring. Measurement Tool 8 CAUTION: measurements taken on an X-ray image always contain a certain degree of uncertainty due to the properties of the radiological examination itself.

Guide_RVG6100_5100_GB 21/08/06 14:31 Page 9 Using the full resolution By default images are displayed at a reduced size to allow you to view several images at a time. To increase the visible details in the image window, do the following: To display the image at 100% or 1:1, double-click the image, or right-click the image and select Full Screen Actual Size To revert the initial size, double-click the image or right-click the image and select Exit Full Screen Mode. To revert to the actual size, press the space bar or right-click the image ans select Exit Full Screen Mode. Saving images Images are saved when you exit the imaging window. The software prompts you to save each image. You can also save it by clicking on the toolbar. When you save the image, you can specify a tooth number and add comments.. Printing images You can print images on any printer connected to the computer. Comments attached to the image will automatically be printed with it.
