Yuma County Bird Checklist Latest update: Oct 10, 2016 www.southwestbirders.com Seasons Spring is Mar-May Summer is Jun-Aug Fall is Sep-Nov Winter is Dec-Feb Status Codes C - Common, usually seen 3 out of 4 visits U - Uncommon, usually seen 1 out of 4 visits - are, usually not seen, and may be absent some years - agrant, not expected in our area on a regular basis may be a visitor from the eastern United States, Mexico, Asia, or Europe The Status Codes are the likelihood of finding a bird species if you look for it in the right type of habitat, at the right time of year, at the right time of day. Even within a particular season, there is much variation among birds. For example, some shorebirds start their southward migration in midsummer and are gone by early fall. Thus, a bird marked as "C" for summer (such as Greater Yellowlegs) may be absent in June and common only in July and August. Notes The checklist is in A.O.U. (7th Edition) order, 57th supplement, from July 2016. This list contains 339 species that I have personally observed, or have first-hand knowledge of, over the past twenty years. However, just about any migratory bird that breeds in the United States has the potential to show up here, so make sure to bring along a comprehensive bird guide! Additional sightings, corrections, and other feedback on this checklist are welcome. Please send e-mails to henrydetwiler@earthlink.net.
