WARNING! Never look through this device directly at or near the sun. There is a risk of BLINDING YOURSELF! Children should only use this device under supervision. Keep packaging materials away from children. There is a risk of SUFFOCATION. Attention: Indoor Lighting may cause the image to PULSE or STROBE. This device is intended for use in the dark. The XGen's primary purpose is to amplify natural outdoor light, for viewing objects at a distance. If you test indoors, with the lights turned on, the 60Hz frequency of indoor lighting systems will cause the image to pulse or strobe. This is not a defect. 2

Introduction The Night Owl Optics xgenpro Digital Night Vision Viewer features the latest innovations in affordable consumer Night Vision technology. Designed for viewing out to a distance of 100 yards using a powerful built-in infrared illuminator, the xgenpro viewer performs in low-light conditions or complete darkness. Battery Installation 1. Slide battery door down to release lock, then rotate the door up to open. 2. Install 3 AA alkaline batteries as shown in illustration, pg. 4. Please note polarity of batteries. 3. Close the battery compartment by rotating the door down and then slide up to lock. Battery Disposal & Recycling Alkaline batteries may be disposed of in a normal waste receptacle or recycled. Non-Alkaline batteries should be recycled. In the state of California all battery types must be recycled. Please refer to local municipalities for detailed disposal and recycling requirements. Start Up / Turn off Press-and-Hold Power button for approximately 2-3 seconds to power on device. Press-and-hold Power button approximately 2-3 seconds to power off device. Auto-off Feature Powers down automatically 10 minutes after the last touch of a control button. If batteries are low, then the device will automatically power down sooner than the 10 minute time-out period. 6 5

Focus The xgenpro has two focusing mechanisms. 1. The EYEPIECE allows you to focus your individual eyesight onto the microdisplay. 2. The OBJECTIVE LENS brings objects at different distances into focus. Focusing Procedure Rotate the EYEPIECE until the characters come into focus. After focusing the EYEPIECE to your eyesight, no further adjustment of the EYEPIECE is necessary, unless you move it accidentally. Rotate the OBJECTIVE LENS to bring objects within your field of view into focus. The xgenpro requires manual focusing. Just as your eyesight must refocus on objects at varying distances, you must also rotate the OBJECTIVE LENS to focus precisely on each object you view.

The two buttons ( and ) closest to the eyepiece, allow you to control FRAME RATE and IR INTENSITY and to perform DIGITAL ZOOM. Frame Rate Press, closest to the eyepiece. Frame Rate is similar to the exposure time on an old film camera where the longer the shutter remains open, the greater the amount of light exposure. With the xgenpro, the electronic sensor can be allowed more time to gather up light before processing the image. The longer the exposure time, and thus the lower the frame rate (FPS), the more light is gathered. The current frame rate setting top left of the display. is displayed at the 7

Operating Controls (continued) IR Intensity: The infrared light BEAM is not detected by human or animal eyes. But note that when looking at the infrared emitter, you will notice a red glow. This red glow is the visible red light that reflects around the IR diode which creates the infrared light beam. While this glow can be detected by humans at a distance, animals appear not to detect it. Animals are not startled by the red glow, nor do they react to it. The xgenpro is an active Night Vision device; the IR is always illuminated. The user can control the intensity of the IR beam using button, but cannot turn it off. There are 3 IR settings: LOW (default) - 1 bar MEDIUM - 2 bars HIGH - 3 bars At close range, and at low FPS settings, too much IR illumination may overexpose the image. In order to see objects at longer distances or to see in the darkest outdoor environments, choose a higher IR setting. The higher the IR setting, the farther the IR beam will project. Digital Zoom Press-Hold-and-Release button to double the magnification with the digital zoom function. Hold the button for one second. Upon release, zoom will be activated (X2 appears on screen). Press-Hold-and-Release again, to deactivate digital zoom.

Check whether the eyepiece and lens are focused correctly. Ensure that the lenses are not dirty. 9

Operating Conditions While intended for viewing in the dark, use in daylight will not damage the device, but may result in a temporarily overexposed image. Do not expose to rain, extreme heat or shock. CAUTION: Do not point Infrared Emitter directly into eye at close range. Keep out of reach of children. The infrared emitter emits a BRIGHT, although invisible, beam of light. As with any bright light, do not point into the eye. Special operating characteristics If the device has initially been used in cold conditions and is then brought into a warmer room, allow it to acclimate to room temperature for 2-3 hours before storing the unit in its case to avoid any condensation forming on the electro-optical elements. Never immerse the device in liquids. Do not expose the device to either rain or strong sunlight. Avoid exposure to severe shock or heat sources, which may damage the device. 10
