Assembly methds, relatin driven parts and assemblies. Tlerancing, GD&T, threads and fasteners and bill f materials. Intrductin: Wrking drawings are ften the final prduct f an engineering ffice. They are the means by which a design cncept is cmmunicated t thse peple wh apprve and manufacture the designed prduct. In yur career as an engineer, yu will be called upn t create, r supervise the creatin f, drawings which will be used t make smething. Errrs made n a drawing ften result in very expensive changes and a lt f scrapped parts. Because f the cst f errrs, the ability t create neat and accurate drawings is an essential talent emplyers require f an engineer. The primary gal fr the students in this curse is t learn hw t create a set f wrking drawings fr sme prduct. All f the activities, readings and curse lectures are meant t supprt this gal. Curse Objectives After cmpleting this curse, students shuld be able t: 1. Make a set f wrking drawings fr a mechanical prduct. 2. Create slid mdel assemblies using fully cnstrained cmpnents and check fr interferences. 3. Mdel new parts in the cntext f an assembly.
4. Create an assembly drawing f a mechanical prduct with a part list and item ballns. 5. Use mathematical relatins t drive slid mdels. 6. Use family tables t create different cnfiguratins f slid mdels. 7. Extract partial, auxiliary, and sectin views frm slid mdels. 8. Cmpute limits, allwance and fits fr mating features. 9. Represent gemetric tlerances n a drawing and understand their meaning. 10. Cmputer bnus tlerance assciated with a psitin tlerance. 11. Specify and represent threaded shafts and hles n detail drawings. Yu are respnsible fr material cvered during an absence frm class. Likewise, classrm disruptins will nt be tlerated (e.g. talking during lecture, using prfanities, etc ). Academic Integrity Plicy Penn State Erie puts a very high value n academic integrity, and vilatins are nt tlerated. Academic integrity is ne f Penn State s fur principles t which all students must abide. This principle states: I will practice academic integrity. Academic integrity is a basic guiding principle fr all academic activity at Penn State University, allwing the pursuit f schlarly activity in an pen, hnest, and respnsible manner. In accrdance with the University s Cde f Cnduct, I will practice integrity in regard t all academic assignments. I will nt engage in r tlerate acts f falsificatin, misrepresentatin, r deceptin because such acts f dishnesty vilate the fundamental ethical principles f the University cmmunity and cmprmise the wrth f wrk cmpleted by thers. Any vilatin f academic ntegrity will receive academic and pssibly disciplinary sanctins, including the pssible awarding f an XF grade which is recrded n the transcript and states that failure f the curse was due t an act f academic dishnesty. All acts f academic dishnesty are recrded s repeat ffenders can be sanctined accrdingly. Examinatin Plicy Examinatins and quizzes (called in-class assignments) may be made up at the discretin f the instructr upn presentatin f a valid dctr's excuse r University

They are t be placed n the instructr's desk BEFORE class starts. Once the instructr has started t grade an assignment, late plates will nt be accepted. Late assignments are t be cmpleted n yur wn time, nt during class. Yu may discuss hmewrk activities with ther students, but yu may nt cpy ne anther's wrk. Additinally, yu may nt lk at anther persn's wrk t "see hw they did it" - this is really cpying the wrk f anther. Please pay attentin during class lectures and discussins. S that yu are nt distracted, please shut yur cmputer mnitr ff during class discussins, unless therwise directed. Wrking n any cmputer during instructr lectures is inapprpriate. Any student bserved vilating this plicy will nt receive any instructr assistance during that perid. This includes "trying" the prcedures being presented. If the instructr wants the students t test certain peratins n their system, they will be s infrmed. I expect yu t pay attentin, take gd ntes, and ask questins during class. I will be cmmunicating in between classes with yu via e-mail and n the Annuncements page in Angel. Yu will be expected t check yur e-mail and the Angel n a regular basis. Yu must ntify the instructr prir t the absence. Students will nt be permitted t share anything during a quiz r examinatin. Yu are expected t strive t prduce neat and accurate wrk. There is n excuse fr slppy r prly prepared assignments. A failing grade may be assigned fr the curse if all assigned wrk is nt satisfactrily cmpleted. Required Wrk Prducts and Their Assciated Perfrmance Criteria: Slid Mdels Use apprpriate mdeling techniques and include all required features in the mdel. All mdeled features are the crrect size and in the prper lcatin.
Any specified design intent must be captured by the slid mdels created. Assemblies Apprpriate use f tp-dwn r bttm up mdeling techniques. All parts are present, prperly riented and fully cnstrained. Assemblies with uncnstrained cmpnents will be dcked 10%. Detail Drawings All detail drawings are t be cmplete, accurate and aesthetically appealing. Use the standard titleblck frmat and an apprpriate sheet size. The views shuld be as large as pssible withut giving the appearance f being crwded. All necessary shape infrmatin is prvided t cmpletely describe the part. Yu must shw hidden lines n a drawing view. If yur hidden lines appear as bject lines, yur drawing grade will be reduced by 10%. D NOT shw hidden lines n a sectin view. D nt shw datums, axes, r their labels n a drawing. Yur drawing grade will be reduced by 10% fr ding s. D nt shw tangent edges n a detail drawing. Yur drawing grade will be reduced by 10% fr ding s. Significant dimensining errrs will result in drawing grade reductin f at least 10%. Individual activity sheets will have mre specific infrmatin as necessary. Necessary size infrmatin is prvided and placed n the drawing in accrdance with the ANSI Y14.5 and the Penn State Erie Cllege Graphics Standard. Features f size are tleranced crrectly. When required, gemetric characteristics are cntrlled prperly using prper symbls. (GD&T) See the Penn State Erie Graphics Standard fr specific requirements fr creating a detail drawing. Assembly Drawings Use pictrial, explded pictrial r rthgraphic views as apprpriate when creating an assembly drawing. All parts f the assembly shwn are t be labeled using ballns. Item ballns shuld line up vertically r alng ne f the ismetric axes. Whenever pssible, make the arrws parallel t ne anther. Include a parts list f all f the parts in the assembly. This includes all standard and nn-standard parts. Use prper designatins fr all standard parts in the parts list. D nt shw hidden lines n an assembly drawing, unless necessary t prmte clarity f the part. Tangent edges are ften shwn in pictrial drawings t shw fillets and runds. Only use tangent edges t prmte clarity f the drawing. Printed Mdel Infrmatin Text utput frm the slid mdeler must be edited t include yur name, the curse and sectin number and the date in the upper right crner f the sheet. Staple the sheets in prper rder befre submitting fr grade. Calculatins and Wrksheets All calculatins shuld be neatly dne n engineering calculatin paper. Only use ne side f the page. Be sure t date and initial the pages f yur calculatins. Yur name, curse and sectin number and the date shuld appear n each sheet. Use labels and titles t make yur calculatins readable. Print neatly. If yur wrk r answers cannt be read, they will be marked wrng.
Pay attentin t the number f decimal places yu recrd fr yur answers. 0.001 is nt the same as 0.0001.
