Rotterdam, 31 May - 1 June 2018, RDM Onderzeebootloods Rotterdam Version 10 6 April 2018 Investing in the Port of Tomorrow What are the main drivers for ports to invest? How to match long investment processes with the rapidly changing supply chain needs? Can port authorities drive the change or are they driven by changes? How to build a strong case for further port development? Which are the most appropriate sources of investment to ensure that European ports can continue to play their role as gateways for trade and primary nodes in the logistic chain, as clusters of energy and industry and as major partners on the way towards a carbon-free economy and society? These are the main issues to be discussed during the 15 th edition of the ESPO Conference being hosted by the Port of Rotterdam on 31 May and 1 June 2018. On 29 May, the Commission is due to adopt the new Connecting Europe Facility proposal, the key EU funding instrument for transport infrastructure. What s in for ports? The ESPO conference is probably the first occasion to discuss this new proposal with the Commission, Members of the European Parliament, the TEN-T coordinators and the ports. As usual, the ESPO Conference is gathering an impressive line-up of high-level experts and inspiring speakers, who will set the scene for lively debates with different port authorities and EU policy makers. The ESPO conference 2018 is taking place in Europe s new capital of cool, the city that makes it happen, Rotterdam. You can be sure that our host, the Port of Rotterdam, is going to do everything possible to live to its reputation as Europe s biggest port. ESPO will be welcoming its guests in the recently renovated Onderzeebootloods, an impressive hall where submarines slipped off the ramp in earlier days. ESPO conferences are more than just a conference. Also this year throughout the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to network and will be invited to a very exclusive conference dinner in the remarkable historic setting of the Laurens Church. 1
