Asserson Law Offices Former Berwin Leighton Paisner partner Robert Gross has joined Asserson Law Offices as the new head of finance and infrastructure. Gross specialises in finance, project finance, PPP and PFI transactions with a focus on cross-border work. Baker McKenzie Baker McKenzie has hired a trio of new partners this round up. Geoff O Dea joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where he specialised in restructuring, insolvency and acquisition finance. Matthew Smith and Sue McLean join from Travers Smith and Morrison & Foerster respectively. Smith, formerly senior counsel at Travers Smith, joins as a partner in the Finance practice; his experience encompasses acquisition and leveraged finance, asset-based lending and derivatives. Former counsel McLean joins as a partner in the Information Technology and Communications practice. Bird & Bird Bird & Bird has hired finance partner Samrad Nazer from Locke Lord and commercial/ procurement partner Stuart Cairns from Pinsent Masons. Nazer led the Banking and Finance team at Locke Lord and specialises in advising lenders and borrowers on corporate finance, corporate lending, and structured finance. Cairns, who led the Procurement Law team at Pinsent Masons, will join the Commercial practice supporting major infrastructure projects involving complex tech elements. Bray & Krais Music, sport, and entertainment boutique Bray & Krais has appointed Farrer & Co associate Udo Onwere as a partner to lead its private client and sports offering. Former professional footballer Onwere advises high-profile sports individuals, particularly professional footballers, managers, and directors, on private client matters and general commercial issues. DAC Beachcroft DAC Beachcroft has appointed Victoria Kennedy from BLM to the firm s Claims Solutions group. Kennedy specialises in regulatory defence/casualty work. Davitt Jones Bould Louisa Swanton has joined the real estate boutique as a partner from Devonshires, where she was a senior real estate contract lawyer. Swanton has particular expertise in development and agricultural property. Dentons Dentons has hired two partners into its Tax team. Alex Tostevin joins from Weil Gotshal & Manges, where he was a senior associate, and Cristiano Bortolotti joins from boutique consulting firm Transfer Pricing Global Solutions which he founded. Tostevin advises clients across a range of sectors whilst Bortolotti specialises in transfer pricing. Bortolotti will work closely with the Luxembourg office, as well as developing the firm s Tax practice in Benelux and the rest of Europe. DLA Piper DLA Piper has welcomed a trio of new partners. Philip Crump joins from Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and will head the London Leveraged Finance team; he represents financial sponsors and creditors in relation to European LBOs and restructurings. Doug Murning joins from Kirkland & Ellis; he specialises in advising on lender-side finance deals, special situations and alternative credit provider transactions. Former counsel Ben Brown joins the Tax team from Allen & Overy, and will advise on the domestic and Page 2 of 6

international tax aspects of M&A, corporate transactions, and finance work. DWF DWF has hired two partners in London. Mark Shepherd joins the Commercial Real Estate team from Paul Hastings and medical negligence lawyer Will Marshall joins the Insurance team from Capsticks. DWFM Beckman Commercial real estate partner Nadeem Khan joins the West End firm from Gateley plc. Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher continues to grow its European arbitration offering with the addition of Jeffrey Sullivan from Allen & Overy. Sullivan s practice covers international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, and he has particular expertise in public international law. Faegre Baker Daniels Faegre Baker Daniels has recruited Robert Wieder from Bryan Cave. Wieder joins the firm s Corporate practice where he will advise on corporate finance, M&A, and general corporate matters. Farrer & Co Rachel Mainwaring-Taylor joins private client firm Farrer & Co from Hunters Solicitors. She specialises in personal tax and succession planning, both domestically and internationally. Fieldfisher Fieldfisher has hired corporate lawyer Keith Woodhouse from Hogan Lovells. Woodhouse specialises in advising private equity houses and investors on investments, M&A, disposals, and restructurings and has a particular focus on Africa. Fladgate Fladgate has strengthened its Competition and Regulatory practice with the addition of Alex Haffner. Haffner was previously a managing associate at Dentons and joins Fladgate as a partner. His experience includes competition law and broader commercial advice to clients in the sports, media, and telecoms sectors. Fletcher Day Fletcher Day has appointed a quartet of new partners. Wayne O Neil joins as head of corporate from Maclay Murray & Spens, Neil Pfister joins from Downs Solicitors where he was head of corporate and commercial, and corporate lawyer Kyri Papantonious joins from Judge Sykes Frixou. In addition, the firm has welcomed Andrea London from Rosenblatt Solicitors as the new head of employment. Hogan Lovells Hogan Lovells has hired Jonathan Baird from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to boost the firm s Global Investment Funds practice in London. Baird specialises in investment fund and asset management work. Jury O Shea Boutique real estate and disputes firm Jury O Shea has hired commercial litigation/fraud partner Daniel Loblowitz from Stewarts Law. Kirkland & Ellis Marcus Thompson and Anand Damodaran have joined Kirkland & Ellis from Ropes & Gray. Thompson joins the Government & Internal Investigations group and will assist clients with business-related criminal matters such as antimoney laundering, anti-bribery and corruption, international sanctions, and corporate investigations. Funds lawyer Damodaran will advise clients on the formation of credit, private equity and real estate funds. Page 3 of 6

Latham & Watkins Latham & Watkins has appointed David Berman from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where he was head of financial services and regulatory. Berman s practice focuses on representing financial institutions on regulatory, compliance, and governance-related matters, and advising clients on transactions and remedial work. Locke Lord Locke Lord continues to grow its London office with the appointment of three partners. Sean Donovan-Smith joins the Investment Adviser & Alternative Funds practice from K&L Gates, where he headed the Investment Management and Funds team in London, Ben Henry joins the firm s Real Estate practice from Bird & Bird and Andrew Shindler joins the Corporate practice group from King Wood & Mallesons. Maples Teesdale Commercial property boutique Maples Teesdale welcomes real estate partner Martin Smith from Hewitsons together with John Bosworth who joins from Ashfords where he headed the Planning team. McCarthy Denning McCarthy Denning has announced the appointments of real estate lawyer John Dean from Seddons, and oil & gas specialist John Vercoe who was formerly a partner at Canadian firm Fasken Martineau. McGuireWoods US firm McGuireWoods continues the expansion of its London office with the additions of corporate partner Jeremy Davis from K&L Gates and former banking partner at King & Wood Mallesons Lorraine Vaz. Davis specialises in M&A and has significant cross-border experience. Vaz specialises in domestic and cross-border financings and joins the Debt Finance practice. Mundays Michael Nixon joins Surrey headquartered firm Mundays from DMH Stallard to head up the Commercial Property team from London. Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe Jacqui Hatfield, the former head of noncontentious financial services at Reed Smith, joins US rival Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe. Hatfield specialises in fintech and providing specialist regulatory advice on transactions within the financial services sector. Peters & Peters Disputes and business crime boutique Peters & Peters has hired former head of special crime at the Crown Prosecution Service, Nick Vamos as a partner. Phanar Legal Philip Rogers has left US firm Brown Rudnick, where he was head of emerging markets, to set up new firm Phanar Legal. Rogers is a corporate finance lawyer who specialises in cross-border transactions, M&A, and IPOs. Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman The US firm has hired Deborah Ruff to launch its London Disputes practice. She will lead Pillsbury s Global Arbitration practice as well as heading the Disputes practice in the UK. Ruff joins from Norton Rose Fulbright where she specialised in international arbitration within various sectors including energy, infrastructure and constructions, TMT, finance, and corporate. Pinsent Masons Pinsent Masons has hired corporate finance duo Gareth Jones and Julian Stanier from Berwin Leighton Paisner. Jones experience spans various corporate finance transactions, M&A, and equity capital markets, with particular expertise in the betting and gaming, financial Page 4 of 6

services, and mining sectors. Stanier advises clients on cross border and domestic M&A, in particular on UK public company takeovers in the financial services, energy, technology and gaming sectors. Pitmans Law Former Irwin Mitchell commercial litigation/ arbitration partner Donna Goldsworthy has joined Pitmans Law. PWC Tom Ince joins PWC from Reed Smith, where he was deputy leader of the Global Employment Law practice. He has experience in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, with expertise in outsourcing and commercial transactions covering multiple jurisdictions. Reed Smith Reed Smith has announced the hire of three partners: Ingrid Silver from Dentons, Jane Howard from Gowling WLG and Richard Hakes from Allen & Overy. Silver, who headed the Media and Entertainment practice at Dentons, specialises in providing commercial and regulatory advice with particular expertise in new media. Howard specialises in handling disputes for the larger accountancy firms and joins the Commercial Disputes group. Hakes was a senior associate at Allen & Overy and specialises in ship and aircraft finance for lenders and owners/ operators. Reynolds Porter Chamberlain Jon Bartley, former co-head of the Data team at Penningtons Manches, has joined Reynolds Porter Chamberlain. Bartley specialises in digital technology, e-commerce, data protection, cybersecurity and consumer law. Schillings The boutique reputation, privacy, and family law firm has recruited Amy Pope, the former US deputy homeland security advisor to President Obama. Pope joins the firm s International Crisis and Problem Solving practice as a partner, and will assist clients in evaluating reputation and privacy risks. Shoosmiths National firm Shoosmiths has appointed litigation lawyer Susannah Wakefield to its Insurance practice. Wakefield joins from Taylor Wessing and specialises in commercial insurance and reinsurance disputes. Simkins Media and commercial specialists Simkins have hired intellectual property litigator Jim Dennis from Gordon Dadds, along with employment partner Susan Thompson from Magrath. Simmons & Simmons Simmons & Simmons has hired Mark Carroll and Chris Walton from Clifford Chance. Carroll, who finished up at Clifford Chance last year, specialises in M&A and re-joins Simmons & Simmons where he previously worked for 12 years. Walton has represented major US and international banking firms and is experienced in advising on a range of corporate finance, US securities, and equity and debt capital markets transactions. Watson Farley & Williams Watson Farley & Williams has announced the hire of three partners in this edition: corporate partner Colin Graham, asset finance partner Louise Mor and energy partner Stephen Parker. Graham has joined the firm s Energy & Infrastructure group from Orrick, specialising in M&A and project development in the upstream oil & gas sector. Mor joins the firm s specialist Page 5 of 6

Transport group from White & Case and specialises in aviation, rail, and equipment financing. Parker joins from Paul Hastings and his practice covers both contentious and transactional work, with expertise in restructuring and insolvency matters and banking and finance litigation. Winckworth Sherwood Dhana Sabanathan has joined the Private Client team at Winckworth Sherwood from McDermott Will & Emery. Sabanathan has significant experience in the wealth management sector, working with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, entrepreneurs, corporates and ownermanaged businesses.
