DXE-NCCFL Receive Filter Sets The advanced plug-in filter modules (DXE-NCCFL Series) offer frequency-specific receive system enhancements for the DXE- NCC-1 Receive Antenna Phasing Controller. All filter sets are available in matched pairs of low-pass, band-pass and high-pass frequency ranges. Filter cut-off and center frequencies correspond to the major Amateur bands, 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, with an insertion loss of only about 1 db. Operation By default, empty NCC-1 filter slots have jumpers to pass all signals. On the NCC-1 front panel, the BAND toggle switch "L" or "H" positions activate one of two filter sets, allowing over 360 degrees of phase rotation in two frequency ranges. The BAND switch L position covers from 850 khz to 8 MHz. The BAND switch H position covers from 2 MHz to 15 MHz. Frequencies outside these ranges will have less than 360 degrees of phase rotation. NCC-1 Receive Filters must be placed into the proper BAND filter slots corresponding to desired usage. NCC-1 Receive Filters are installed in pairs (2 of the same type), so both NCC-1 receive antenna inputs "A" and "B" have the same pass-band characteristics. Band-pass, high-pass or low-pass filters are available for users to choose and install into their NCC-1 for their specific application needs. By reducing or excluding frequency-specific interfering noise and signals, the noise floor of the desired pass-band can be lowered for dramatically improved reception. You can install one set or two sets depending on your desired filtering. NCC-1 "L" and "H" slots may be populated with pairs of band-pass, high-pass or low-pass filters to suit the specific signal rejection needs of the discerning operator. Example 80 meters L bandpass and 20 meters H highpass As an example, an 80 meter DX enthusiast may elect to install two 80 meter band pass NCC-1 Receive Filters, part number DXE-NCCFL-BPF80M, into their NCC-1 "L" BAND slots. This would dedicate their NCC-1 to 80 meter-only operations. Setting the BAND switch to L would dramatically reduce noise and signals from outside the 80 meter band, very effectively excluding interference from nearby AM Broadcast, 160 and 40 meter stations. A much lower noise floor on 80 meters could be achieved for dramatically enhanced reception of weak 80 meter DX signals. An additional pair of filters could be installed into the "H" BAND slots, to enhance reception on the higher HF bands. For example, installing 20 meter high pass filters, part number DXE-NCCFL-HP20M, and switching to BAND H would drastically reduce all received noise and signals from frequencies below 13.70 MHz. With advanced planning of additional filter availability, an NCC-1 owner could even swap different filter sets for optimal operations in different contests or band pursuits. - 1 -

Installation In this example, two sets of filters will be installed. Pairs of the lower frequency should be installed in the L or Low positions. Pairs of the higher frequency should be installed in the H or High positions. When you are installing two pairs of low filters or two pairs of high filters, you may not notice any difference between H and L switch positions. The maximum phase shift above 15 MHz is somewhat less than 360 degrees. You may want to experiment in swapping H and L sets to see how they perform in your unique set up. Using a Phillips Head Screwdriver, remove NCC-1 cover. Locate and remove four jumpers as shown. Slightly bend C101 and C32 to allow the included plastic spacer to sit on top of the relays as shown. Position the plastic spacer over the relays. Once you know the fit is okay, peel the paper off of the tape, place the plastic spacer in place and press gently to stick to the top of the relays. Install one set of filters in the Low-A and Low-B positions (can go in either direction) by centering the connectors over the pins. Ensure you are plugging into all of the pins and you are not offset or missing one pin connection. Install the second set in the High-A and High-B positions. - 11 -

The installed filters sets will be activated when you switch the NCC-1 front panel switch L BAND H. When switched in the L the L set will be active, when the switch is in H position the H set will be active. Replace the cover and four screws with washers that were removed earlier.
