Regarding Modern Classics gordon international Gordon International is a premier resource for accurate, high quality reproductions of early and mid 20th C. classic furniture designs. Please find a detailed guide to our philosophy below. 1. Accurate Gordon International sells products made as closely as possible to available original specification standards. It is interesting to note that in many cases product design specifications evolved over time. Today, originals seen in Paris museums may vary widely from originals on display in Germany, the United States or elsewhere. This is a wonderful manifestation of both the organic nature of the design process and the evolutionary perspective of the designers whose pieces we reproduce. 2. High Quality Our pieces are made with the highest quality materials available for and appropriate to the contract furnishings marketplace. Popular classic reproductions vary widely in quality. Before selecting a resource, we suggest a thorough study of the market. We encourage those with questions to call us. 3. Interpretations Gordon International has several items within our collection (from Mies Van der Rohe) for which we hold distribution rights. But the vast majority of classic designs we sell are considered to be 'in the public domain'. This means that these pieces may be reproduced to the exact specifications defined by available historical notes. Most important: they are designs which are only produced as 'reproductions' today. Originals are generally sold through private sale or auction, and can command remarkable prices, ranging into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. 4. Classic Designs We take pride in our accurate reproductions of designs that were ;;originally produced in the early and mid twentieth century and have become perennial favorites of interiors specifiers around the world. 5. Reasonable Prices In most cases, the popular sentiment of the designers whose classics we reproduce was to build utilitarian furniture available to the common worker. In a handful of cases today, these designs are available through licensing agreements with a party controlling the estate of the designer. Offered at extremely high prices, often royalty free, these licensed pieces are simply not affordable to most people. With respect for these designers, our mission is to provide an uncompromised level of quality and accuracy, while offering legitimate products at prices that represent a fair exchange with enduring value.
