WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION Activity Sheet TITLE OF THE EVENT / Advanced Course on Intellectual Property for Government Officials VENUE AND DATES Geneva, Switzerland, 10-21 March 2014 Course description This course will address the recent activities and instruments of the and the and provide a forum for an exchange of information and ideas between participants and the two secretariats on these matters. The emphasis will be on new developments and policy issues under debate in the two organizations. This course is aimed at enhancing the capacity of governments in developing countries and in countries with economies in transition to develop national expertise in Intellectual Property. Relationship between TRIPS and the Convention on Biological Diversity; the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Folklore: Current Work in Panel discussion on intellectual property and climate change current debate Enforcement of Intellectual property Rights, including the Evolving International Landscape IP and Competition Policy Free Trade Agreement with a particular focus on Public Health Interaction with officials on Technical Assistance and capacity building in the area of intellectual property Objectives The main objective of the course is to update government officials in developing countries and countries with economies in transition on the activities and instruments of the and the and to provide a forum for an exchange of information and ideas between them and the two secretariats on these matters. Programme Organizing institution/body Programme / TARGET AUDIENCE - ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES Only 20 places are available for applicants from developing countries and economies in transition. Expenses for the 20 participants from developing countries and countries with economies in transition will be borne by the organizers. An additional five places will be available for applicants from developed countries, at their own expense. Applicants must fulfil the following requirements: (i) Be a government official working in the field of intellectual property in a developing country or in a country with economy in transition (with the exception of developed country applicants), with at least five years' experience; (ii) Have an excellent knowledge of English. NOMINATION OF PARTICIPANTS Interested candidates will need to complete the application form by 17 December 2013. The final selection will be made by the organizers taking into consideration the need for regional and gender balance. OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:
